That's what Duggan (who is usually pretty plugged into these things) is speculating. If that's the case, I wonder if there is any thought to signing Pugh and releasing Glowinski?
And it was not just physically beat, he made a ton of bad reads and mental errors you don't expect from a veteran O-lineman. Especially one making 6 million. I know he came in an played better against Arizona but that stuff is unacceptable I could see why they are moving on from him and giving Lemieux his shot.
It would cost them more money against the cap to release Glowinski
after his rookie year. But, I this doesn't make feel any better than if Glowinski were starting. Maybe, at least, Lemieux fares better in the run game.

He was terrible in the Arizona game. He was making mistakes and getting driven back. I noticed they started shifting jms to help him more
and unfortunately with Bredeson being out he is the backup center also tonight.
That said, I'd like to see him out there tonight. Glowinski hasn't been good and is expensive. We really need to go into next year with at the very least, a starting five that we would feel 'comfortable' with and not needing to shop hungry.
Neal and Thomas were premium picks. Schmitz and Ezedu were day 2 picks. We can't continue to investing these picks like that. I'd love to be able to go into next year with 5 starters (ideally Thomas, Ezedu, Schmitz, McKethan and Neal) with Bredeson/Lemieux signed to a moderate backup deal. We could then look for a swing tackle.
on players like Lemieux and Glowinski. It shows you have a problem on the OL
Why is that? Lemieux was a well regarded prospect considered a prototype of a physical, blue-collar guard. That's why we drafted him. He hurt himself last season. If the coaches think he can be counted on, why is that a problem?
Glowinski sucked incomprehensibly game 1 but the fact is he'd start on most teams.
How did you interpret this statement as a speculation that Lemieux would be starting tonight? Never realized "also possible" = "probably".
"With Thomas and Bredeson out, the same offensive line that finished Sunday’s game will likely start Thursday: LT Josh Ezeudu, LG Mark Glowinski, C John Michael Schmitz, RG Marcus McKethan and RT Evan Neal. That group held up reasonably well against the Cardinals, but the 49ers present a far more daunting challenge. It’s also possible the Giants will insert Shane Lemieux at left guard in place of Glowinski, who was benched after struggling at right guard in the opener.

Duggan had another tweet about it this morning. I'm not claiming he said it was definite, which is why I used the word speculate

Lemieux wasn't good enough to be in the 3 man rotation of guards who also aren't good enough during the preseason. He was a 5th round pick, iirc. That doesn't make him well regarded
i think they save around $1m if they cut glowinski
working out pugh seems clear they arent happy with someone on the OL and glowinski is the obvious candidate since he was benched last week.
starting lemiuex is presumably to see if like mckethan he's the better player right now. if so cutting glowinski and signing a more versatile veteran like pugh seems like a reasonable decision. if glowinski isn't the 4th best guard on the roster may as well save the $ (which would probably net to only a few hundred thousand after signing pugh, but better than nothing).
like to see Lemieux instead of Glowinski. But in any event, I expect use to try and run more, even with Saquon out. That could theoretically wear out the SF defense and slow down their pass rushers. Power runs to the right behind McKethan and Neal. They may also think that Lemieux pulls better than Glowinski, which would help even more on those plays.

Read his draft profiles.
He's coming off an ACL.
I don't see how his play in pre-season can be considered an issue if the coaches who watched him every day then and now tap him as the best chance to win week 3.

Many players were well regarded coming out of college and didn't make it. Giants guards have been so bad for so long. Giants fans desperately want to believe in someone stepping up. Lemieux and Glowinski are depth players not starters. Both can be capable of having a good game. Its about consistency. Neither one of them can be counted on having a stretch of good games. The most you can ask for from these two is two good games in a row. Giants have real problem at guard and we all know that
Quality offensive lineman are hard to find because alot of these guys shift to defensive lineman. An the top guys are drafted high and moved out of position to fill a need. Also are labeled busts after 2 years of play. Its absurd how fans think.
Who the fuck wants to be a guard/center in the NFL these days and get the shit beat out of you every week and only noticed when you make a mistake. Also its almost expected for you to play in pain and injured.
this isnt just the Giants. this is the entire landscape of the

Fair enough - you've decided that Lenieux is an NFL washout based on his 3 dozen snaps in one game last November. Got it.

Clearly Giants have a problem at the Guard position. Lemieux has not been able to break the starting lineup. Last game they brought in Glowinski not Lemieux. If a player can't break the starting lineup on team that is weak at his position, what does that tell you? Then on top of that they bring in a benched player ahead of him. What does that tell you? Do you really think this coaching staff is expecting solid play from him ? As Giants fans if he plays we all will be rooting for him to do well. There is a reality here that you can't turn a blind eye to. Again I will root for him to do well
Believe it or not, Glowinski may have trade value down the road...
If Lemieux proves serviceable, Bredeson returns, and Pugh is signed (or even if he isn't), there may be a playoff bound team in need of an experienced right guard as the trade deadline approaches.
Lemieux is not a solution to the Giants problem at Guard.
And unless you think that Daboll and the coaches are clueless in what they witnessed all summer & preseason rotating players on the Interior OL, Lemieux is likely the worst Guard on the roster.

Hargrave and Armstead are studs but even Kinlaw has come on these last two games. This is a great opportunity for him to jump start his career, a good performance should go a long way given the competition.
Double team the dt. Use Lemieux to pull and kick out the de.i think the Giants are really going to try and run the ball.

I would be surprised not to see Glow back in at LG tonight but we'll see.

Glow only plays G, which may not cut it as a backup. We’ll see.
