They can’t compete with the best teams with this roster. They generally beat everyone else. Tonight was no exception. [/quote]
Over under wins for NYG for 2023 was 7.5 at every betting house. And they were only actually favored in 6 of their 17 games, before the Rodgers' injury.
Which wouldn't be true if "they generally beat everyone else" was any kind of meaningful predictive statement.
I have a problem with the fact that they don't even do anything well. Offense, defense, running game, pass rush, stopping the run, pass blocking. All shit.
This is a 5 win team this year at best. Yes, the schedule is difficult, but there are a lot of good teams out there and not many dogs. I thought we would be measurably better this year even if the record was same or a bit worse.
And to add insult to injury, my most hated teams are all very good or at least better, and we won't even be able to hope for an upset against any of them. We'll be 0-6 against Dallas, SF, Jets, Philly.
And we'll get to see another prime time embarrassment next week again. Oh fucking joy.
We have 0 game changing difference makers on this team outside of Barkley.
The defense is soft. It’s like they don’t want to tackle and they fear contact.
Waller has been disappointing
Receivers outside of wandale and Hyatt are all jags and those 2 are based off potential
Then we get to our continuous dog shit oline.
I just don’t see any teams on the schedule that we are able to beat
The game was “never competitive?” It was a one score game in the middle of the 3rd quarter we didn’t have our best player on our roster and our best playmaker.
I get the end result was poor but to say it was never competitive is not fair at all. They were in the game man.
With two of the best players at their position out and the OL just can't afford to be missing AT or really anyone now against one of the leagues best DLs. Maybe later in the season it would be different - look at the total number of games the OL started.
If you're building an OL with young players they have to play. You'd prefer it wasn't all together at this point.
f they don't pan out, that will suck. But expecting these guys with 30 total games under their belt to look great against SF is unrealistic.
As it was, the 49ers got 4-5 more high impact breaks than we did and made some plays. They're a great team. At home. It was going to take a perfect game.
The poor tackling, Campbell and Darren Smaller are the big disappointments today.
getting a lot more reps than Jalin Hyatt? Campbell had 6 catches for 24 yards, but he offers nothing. He's not as fast as advertised, when he catches the ball he falls right away and he plays soft.
Giants had 150 yards. Really confused why some believe the Giants were in this game? Because they were only down by 6-8 points in the third quarter? San Fran was in total control from beginning to end. That’s just the way it is.
RE: I don't know the snap counts, but was why Paris Campbell

I was thinking the same thing to myself all game, and I'm hopeful they do phase Hyatt in to replace him.
The actual answer is they trust Campbell not to royally screw up, and also WR is tougher to learn in the NFL than one may think (unless you're a beast like Ja'Marr Chase).

Probably because we could have had several interceptions, we bailed them out on stupid 3rd and longs, and there were some bad calls.
But I agree with you, we got dominated, but it's ok, at least we didn't get embarrassed.

I'd say it was fairly embarrassing the way we tried to tackle.

Same here. Hyatt should be on the field most of the time.
I also done like Riley inactive. I want him on the field with Dexter at the same time. And, I'd like a real 3 man DL
no coach of the year trophy for BD....he and JS should be put on the clock in 2024, and if the team does not compete on a professional level in '24, they and their cool dark sunglasses should be sent packing.
I wouldn't waste another year on either of them if this team doesn't show massive improvement this season.
To put it in perspective, Giants have played two of the three best NFC sides in their first three games. That's not from a Giants's fans perspective, if you watch the commentary shows, they're talking up the Cowboys and 49ers as the best NFC teams.
On the negative side:
Folk have been talking on here for too long about Wink Martindale as if he walks on water. I can't help feeling the rest of the league doesn't see it that way.
Also read an article which mentioned in passing that there is a trend toward fewer yds per pass as defenses are getting smarter at pressuring the QB quicker.

Not so sure about the quarterback.
Just have to be patient.

So you just want to keep firing coaches every 2 years and resetting the front office? Wow. I really can't believe some fans.
So this is what it looks like after closing the talent gap
and was actually pleasantly surprised at how they hung in into the 3rd qtr, BUT:
* did Hyatt piss in the Gatorade or something? WTF didn't he play? That made no sense to me not have that threat there and take a few shots especially early. I really don't like the reversion to 10 yd or less routes.
* The tackling is atrocious. Yards after contact on every play. Note to DBs: HIT GUYS WHO ARE BIGGER THAN YOU LOW SO YOU DON'T GET RUN OVER!
* Again no pass rush. Wink as in stink. They were getting gashed all night. Thibs seemed more involved which was nice.
* I thought the OL did okay considering AT was out. McKethan has to stay at RG. Neal looks much better with him net to him. Ezeudu needs to stay at LG when Thomas returns. The kids are better than Bred and Glow. Let them play. JMS is a good C.
* SFs OL is REALLY good and really physically strong. And mean. I haven't seen any other team be able to move Dexter like they did.
* SF Defense is the best I've seen in a long time.
The Giants have a ways to go to catch up in talent for sure. Kafka needs to have more balls. Wink has A LOT of work to do.

teams except for the Giants who can't get a whiff of the QB
Lets hope for health and solid practices to fix this mess
Hoping Barkley, Thomas and Ojulari are ready for Seattle.
All hands on deck.
What I learned last night is this: 1. we lack top-end stars that can make a difference 2. Our OL is young and SF's defense adjusted accordingly which limited Jones. 3. Our defense can't tackle and looks lazy out there (lack of effort???) 4. It's gut check time with Seattle at home on another national TV stage. 2-2 and all will be well given we lost to 2 of the 3 (Philly) best teams in the NFC right now to start the season.
I do believe the OL will make progress and that the defense will pick it up BUT we lack top-end talent to beat great teams who have the top-end talent.

Do the Giants look like a well-coached team to you?
Does Thibs look like a #5 pick? Does Neal look like a #7? Is there anybody from last year’s draft look like a plus starter? And what free agents are playing well? What did Schoen do to improve the guard position?
This is the nfl. You’re on the hot seat every year esp if you’re unproven.
not sure what people were watching. The 49ers have a terrific DL, that predictably dominated our weak OL. They were able to get pressure with four or five defenders, which allowed them to drop six or seven into coverage. That made it very difficult for Jones to throw and prevented any deep shots.
On defense, we got very little pressure without blitzing, and couldn't stop the run.

The biggest surprise about last night's game is the claim that it was somehow competitive. Perhaps what is sometimes lost is that there are numerous games in the NFL where one team is dominating the other, but the domination is not necessarily reflected in the score. Last night was a total, complete beat-down.
3rd down conversions were a killer. SF has a outstanding D and a elite front. Tough to deal with those type of defenses without a good OL and running game. SF is built and plays like a NFCE team.
I thought the defense made some strides in the first half but again those 3rd down conversions and terrible tackling. Missed a couple picks on D.

I agree with Erics' post, that even though they lost this one, they have shown something. I think a great coach said the season doesn't start unil after Thanksgiving.
The giants look like a team destined to pick in the top 10 again. It looks like they have 3 winnable games on the schedule, the rams, jets and raiders. The jets defense can beat them alone though.
This is probably at best a 5 win team.
Really bad defense, Just awful offensive line no matter who plays, Same guys injured again and darren waller looks like a dud through 3 games.
Its unfathomable that they did not go get real nfl guards this offseason. Just unthinkable and the mara family should be ashamed this offensive line disaster has continued into 2023.

Pretty much everyone (even those who predicted 9-10 wins) expected us to be 1-2 at this point. Sure it's been uglier than expected, but the season is still young.
Our roster is one of the youngest in the league and we lost to 2 of the best teams in the league.
Things could be a lot different about a month or so from now.
Hyatt was on what, a dozen snaps and how many attempted throws to him? I don't understand. It simply is not about the pressure and time in the pocket for Daniel Jones. With arguably one of the fastest receivers in the NFL, Hyatt gets no attention. I don't get it.
There is no apparent imagination by Kafka and Daboll about how to exploit this kid's talent. Or perhaps, Hyatt is disappointing the coaches in some other fashion.

As horrible as 5 wins sounds, it wouldn't be the worst thing if the Giants take advantage of high 2024 Draft picks and infuse this team with young new talent that plays with passion.
And if this team has only 5 wins in it, then at some point in the season I much prefer to play as many young guys as possible to enhance their development and to see if they DO develop!

IDN.
SF is not Arizona. They were not going to give Hyatt a free release, and I doubt the line was going to give Jones time to throw it long.
The film breakdowns have started on Twitter - Giants protection didn’t hold up long enough to get the ball to him, which is why his snaps were limited to begin with.

I get the end result was poor but to say it was never competitive is not fair at all. They were in the game man.
It was also tied at 0-0 AND 3-3! Never competitive?!? The hell you say!!
Because our only TD consisted of a 15 yard and 24 yard penalty on SF.
We didn’t sustain any drives nor did we stop them on any.
Shanahan was toying with us. He could have just run the ball all night if he wanted. It seemed like he just wanted to make sure everyone got involved.
Ok mccaffrey got his, let’s get Deebo involved, ok now Kittle, sprinkle in some Taylor and bell, add some Mitchell. Boom 450 yards, 40 plus minutes with the ball, they could have hung 40 if Shanahan was in playoff mode.
think that series when 49ers offense made several 3rd and longs was major momentum surge in the game.
I think the defense will be okay. Made some plays, came close to making some plays. Just not talented enough to overcome so many missed tackles.
Offensive line will be the thing to hold this team back this year. If Ezudu can become serviceable RT, I'd like to see Neal get reps at guard. That may well be where he belongs.
Like someone lese said - Waller may have a hamstring. If so, he may have it all year.
Tiki said he can play with it, but in a way where he doesn’t try to explode out of breaks or truly open up.
11-3-1. Big fucking mistake.

This.
How many fumbles result from strips vs. jarring hits.
I heard also pressuring the QB can result in that thing, wait, oh yeah. Interceptions.

^This. They were predictably dominated by one of the best teams in football. Even if they played the 49ers at MetLife the Giants would have lost.

If we lose 10 days from now, I was wrong about this team.
So what?
If we win, maybe I am still right.
So what?
I don't live by BBIs opinion of my football acumen.
I watch, do casual study and root for my team.
Some of you, take yourselves WAY too seriously.
There is no apparent imagination by Kafka and Daboll about how to exploit this kid's talent. Or perhaps, Hyatt is disappointing the coaches in some other fashion.

no coach of the year trophy for BD....he and JS should be put on the clock in 2024, and if the team does not compete on a professional level in '24, they and their cool dark sunglasses should be sent packing.
I wouldn't waste another year on either of them if this team doesn't show massive improvement this season.
So you just want to keep firing coaches every 2 years and resetting the front office? Wow. I really can't believe some fans.
Speaking of Dex, is it me or has he been a disappointment?

This game was never competitive. San Fran was in control from the jump. The Giants drives after their first one while the game was close;
2 yards
0 yards
37 yards
18 yards
37 yards
1 yard
-1 yard
The game was “never competitive?” It was a one score game in the middle of the 3rd quarter we didn’t have our best player on our roster and our best playmaker.
I get the end result was poor but to say it was never competitive is not fair at all. They were in the game man.
It was also tied at 0-0 AND 3-3! Never competitive?!? The hell you say!!
