We hung with the best team in the league until the 4th quarter while missing 2 of our best players in Barkley and Thomas along with missing 2 other starters (3 if you include Deonte Banks missing 2nd half). How could you ask for more than that?
Of course, there are question marks. Kafka's playcalling seems borderline delusional with the playaction bootlegs, slow developing deep routes sprinkled with with dinks and dunks and consistently abandoning the run game. That is a recipe for failure, especially with our offensive line situation. Our defense played solid in the first half, looked completely different after Banks went down forcing Hawkins to go left, Adoree to go right and the dreaded penalty machine midget Darnay Holmes in the slot. The playcalling, drops and putrid o line also forced the defense to get gassed fast as they were on the field for like 35 minutes or more.
There is no reason to be overreacting so severely. We need Thomas back and we need to beat the Seahawks in 10 days. It is simple as that. The Seahawks game is a must win. Save your elementary overreactions for then.
Scored on 6 of 8 possessions before the meaningless last one
40:00 TOP
3rd down defense was awful
No turnovers
What exactly did they do well?

We let them get a few long screen passes on 3rd and longs. Other than that the coverage and pressure was solid. McCaffrey definitely was eating em up, but that was to be expected. I'd say we looked solid against all those weapons, especially in comparison to the past 2 games. The rookie cornerbacks in Hawkins and Banks are improving every day and the defense is starting to hone itself as a unit. Time will tell, but overall they looked much better until we lost Banks and they got completely gassed early.
The only time this offense looked alive was 2nd half against Arizona. Guys were not making mistakes, tipping passes for INTs, playing with fire and conviction, making plays. Is it true that Daboll took over play calling duties that half? If so Kafka is a problem, and I think he won’t be long here. If I were Daboll I’d take the calls away from him, he should have learned after last time Daboll took away his playcalling.
Come on Giants fans you really thought we would go into SF on Thursday night a whoop them?
Get a grip. Their last regular reason loss was in October to the CHIEFS week 8 last season.
We hung tough for 3 quarters.
Our defense is pathetic. We got completed dominated at the line of scrimmage once again. On both sides of the ball also! They could have easily scored 50 points against us.
Our offensive line is just as bad. That unit might be the worst in the league. We have guys starting that wouldn't make any NFL team.
This is pathetic and we had such high expectations going into the season. I feel bad for all the people who bought season tickets expecting a productive year.
You're right. Like I said, 8 or 9 wins and like I said, just someone on the Giants kick Kelce in the balls in that last game so we have SOMETHING to care about.
Wildcard?...
Cue Jim Mora.
This. Jesus it was awful tonight.
Two straight #1 picks and almost all of the FA signings this year going to defense, and they are playing BY FAR worse than last year.
And please, enough about Dallas and SF being so great. Whatever. How do you explain Arizona?
There is a serious, serious issue with the defense. Martindale better get his head out of his ass because this shit is unacceptable.
SF outgained them 441-150. That was a beatdown. They were arguably outplayed just as badly as they were vs Dallas tonight, but didn't have the pick 6/blocked kick (and had a TD drive that was completely aided by penalty)

Josh Dobbs for 3 quarters looked better against our defense than Purdy or the dallAs QB

There are no excuses on defense. But on offense? Come on people. What the hell are you smoking cause I want some.
The LT was the backup LG, playing only his second full NFL game. The LG was a third stringer. The center is a rookie. The RT was playing only his second NFL game after getting no preseason snaps as a rookie and fewer than 10 this year. And Neal at RT (who actually wasn't bad, but still has a way to go). Our RB, one of the top 4 or 5, was out. And by the second quarter SF knew they could simply ignore the run (picture what the last three quarters against Dallas would have been like without Barkley, Thomas and Bredeson).
-Tackling was atrocious
-I was hopeful, but throughout the entire game, I kept uttering the word, SOFT. I was just reacting to what I saw, I was frustrated
- Lemieux was awful
- regarding the Niners... I was expecting a juggernaut, but I didn't get that impression. I came away feeling we were more inept than they were impressive
- I am disappointed with the defense... we have regressed... they are not what I was expecting prior to the regular season... maybe I was expecting too much... they seem not to care
- The offense is what it is. Difficult to operate with the OL in its current state
