He was tough to block last year! He had that dominant game in Washington. We all complained that he was getting held on every play... because he was! He was really showing signs of being a positive contributor; maybe not a top-flight EDGE but certainly someone you wanted on your team.
The first three games this year he has been sleepwalking. I have no idea what's going on.
is what I mean... Giants fans have made up their mind to run this guy out of town.
Lowest PFF score of any defender?
Seems odd. He had three tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for a loss, and 1 QB hit. About half of the defensive players missed tackles all night and KT is the lowest rated guy?

Eric, I have come to the conclusion that todays Giants fan wants every player to be LT or Strahan on every play. Don't worry about what defensive roll they are being coached to play or what kind of defense they play in.
KT is a talented guy. I would like to see more physical play and intensity out of him. You know, more enthusiasm.
I'll admit, I don't know what pieces of information make up
a player's PFF grade. Is it purely statistical? For example, if I had a formula and exact stats, could I myself calculate a PFF grade? Or is it a bit more mysterious and nuanced? (serious question)

We have seen this before. This town loves to pick a player and hammer them. Hell Odell was being runout of here his first training camp when he had his hamstring issue.
Second season. These guys seem to have these sophomore slumps. Problem is the fans are viscous with the social media these days. I’ve pointed out a couple clips where he is most definitely dogging it, but that doesn’t mean it’s over for him. Have to believe the coaches can get him through this. Among other tasks they have to get through.

You can try and run him out of town but Thibs would probably do it slower.
hard to take these seriously. The McFadden score is a prime example. He made several big plays, effective went blitzed, and didn't seem to stand out struggling in coverage. Yet he got a score Dhani Jones would laugh at.
And prove to be a valuable player. Last year I thought he came on strong at the end and was excited. So far this year he feels invisible and not motivated.
Fact is he was drafted at 5 and all of us as fans were hoping he would prove to be a tj watt /parsons / bosa / Hutchinson type of player. Always had to be worried about him and double teaming him.
So far his career seems more like a clowney or chase young. Highly touted coming out but never really blossomed into what most thought they’d become.
These things happen you miss on picks. Problem is at 5 we may have missed but we sure as shit missed at 7 with Neal
That being said I still think he can be a solid/good 2 way player but I don’t think he’s gonna be some game wrecker on defense. However I’d love to be wrong

The QB hit, sack, and one of the tackles are the same play, I believe those get double counted. So in terms of impact plays he had 1 pressure (the sack), one TFL, and one additional tackle on 72 snaps.
And neither here nor there, but Purdy walked right into his arms. Link - ( New Window )

Problem is despite getting in middle of lot of plays, he missed a lot of tackles too. McCaffrey beat him multiple times last night.
Go back and read Sy’s through draft review on Thibs
Sy was spot on about him and it is showing up in the NFL.
His tool set is one pass rush move to the outside. That’s fine at Oregon but not against NFL caliber OL.
He has no secondary moves at all.
He is a limited pass rusher who I did not like at all predraft. I also thought his last year at Oregon that he disappeared against good teams.
What we see now is what I thought we would see. No surprise here…
But what the hell do I know… I thought Neal was going to be a beast at RT.
Early returns very shaky

I think a lot of Giant fans (myself included) are tired of having to be patient after 10 years of bad football. Lots of guys drafted in the top 10 the last couple of years have already become huge impact guys. Sauce may be the best CB in the game, Parsons is the best defensive player, Jalen Carter has been great already, Bijuan may already be a top 3 RB in the league. The hope when you draft an edge rusher with the #5 overall pick is that he is more than just a guy who has one coverage sack in 3 games, a handful of tackles, and looks to be putting forth less than full effort.
I dont need Strahan or a Tuck or LT level. Shed a block, make a tackle, dont get run out wide, get a real sack or two here and there. Be a force. DO something. Do anything.
Never mind he's a first round pick. I think we're all upset and was expecting a lot more. His invisibility is a microcosm of the whole team.
Thibs is kinda a reflection through three weeks of the NYG as a team.

This...
Anyone who says this guy is not a disappointment must not be watching or doesn't want to believe that Schoen could have missed so badly on the # 5 pick in the draft.
C'mon, he's been a non factor, appears to take plays off, and not like big contact.
Until proven otherwise, he is a major whiff by Schoen.

They're probably dinging all the LBs for coverage between the hashes and all the missed tackles. McFadden had a monster game and scored like crap too. The full PFF breakdown would be enlightening.
To my eye Thibs was like the rest of the D - some good plays overshadowed by beau coup missed tackles and too few impact plays. He doesn't operate in a vacuum.

If you watch that play closely, KT is cut blocked to the ground by Juszczyk, who than runs into the flat for a pass, and Purdy absolutely runs into KT. But Purdy had time, just couldn't find anybody. So, it's not like KT blew up the play with some great move off the ball...
To what we see. It may be that there is an explanation that is not obvious, but based upon the eye test, neither KT nor Neal have played up to their draft position. Hoping it will change but for now being critical of either (and several other Giant players) is warranted.

Yes and no.
KT hasn't made any impact plays yet this year. But he wasn't the guy missing tackles left and right last night. Fans expect more given his lofty draft status. But if you are rating the defensive players on the field last night honestly, is he the guy you are most ticked off at?
Personally, I was more upset with the tackling of the defensive backs last night. If I'm grading defensive players, they are below KT.
Some of you posters act like this is new of Giants fans. This has ALWAYS been a tough place to play REGARDLESS of sport. Whether it’s the Knicks, Nets, Mets, Islanders, Jets etc IT DOESNT MATTER. Is Philly nicer? NO. they just win. Look at what the 76ers are dealing with cause they UNDERPERFORM.
So NO we will not be nice to you cause you suck. That has NEVER been the way. So stop putting this blame of players not performing on FANs. They want fans that are ok with sorry play, tell them to join the freakin USFL.
start with speed and finish with power . #5 is doing neither . It would help
If Wink ran some stunts and loops for him. But it’s true that almost all his impact plays to date in his young career happened when he was a free runner . The sack last night was what Strahan used to call a “piss sack.” Purdy basically ran into him.
Actually his best trait seems to be when he plays more of a traditional
strong -side linebacker role , where he jams the TE or drops off into zone. Other than that he doesn’t close and he can’t defeat the tackle one on one . Too many apologists are insisting he is getting double teamed . Not when I’m watching . The opposing offense isn’t even bothering to chip him .
Like Neal his alleged athletic attributes appear to be greatly exaggerated . And like so many of these guys when playing better comp they can’t be found .
He played hard last night , I appreciate that . They all did . They simply aren’t good enough to match up with the best .

Thibs was never tough to block last year. And he was far from impressive against WFT. I remember coverage sacks and ball carriers walking into his lap. He made zero impact plays on his own that game. And he made very very few last year. He has made zero thus far this year. Thus far Thibs has shown us he is a notch below, or possibly two notches below a JAG in the NFL.
I should add that there was very little impressive from an individual player perspective that I saw from his tape at Oregon. I absolutely did not like the pick at the time.
"Coverage" sack I think be took out the primary receiver in Juzchyck on that play and threw the play off and then got in there and got the sack. I do agree with the crowd that wants him to be more impact full. But when everyone is playing like garbage I tend to look at the coaching.
Second season. These guys seem to have these sophomore slumps. Problem is the fans are viscous with the social media these days.
