...Andrew Thomas and Parsons or Neal and Thibs I bet you'd have a 50/50 split. Thibs started getting some criticism closer to the draft but was viewed as one of the top prospects and at some point the top pass rusher in the draft. Parsons started getting criticism closer to the draft. That happens every draft. By the time the draft happened I felt like Thomas was at best #3 in terms of hype of the 4 tackles, if not #4. I don't know if this is on Schoen, maybe the coaches. But I think it's mostly luck of the draw. This is not a Barkley situation where you could tell from a mile away the position wasn't worth #2 overall. Or a Flowers/Apple situation who were probably overdrafted. These two guys were viewed by virtually all professional scouts as top prospects in the draft. Just like Thomas and Parsons were. I know it's Schoen's and scouts' jobs to find guys but Thibs and especially Neal would have been taken around that same spot by almost all of the 30 other GMs.
I don't remember the questions surrounding them anymore but I do remember a lot of questions surrounding Parsons who slipped presumably in part because of that. And hasn't Ekwonu been nothing special? And finally, even if both Neal and Thibs slipped to the teens they'd be disappointments so far.
Neal in particular is deeply puzzling why he is struggling. I remember reading a whole bunch of different people's opinions on him and he was described as a top tier prospect that was almost near miss.

That's what I read here. Neal is shocking to me, Thibs had some questions and pass rushers I feel like are more boom or bust.
So far, I've read / heard nothing bad about his off the field behavior, so the Penn State incident could just be an immaturity thing.
Obviously players with non-football concerns have dropped in the draft and they worked out well (Randy Moss, Warren Sapp), and others have had the concerns validated.
Right now passing on Parsons seems like a huge mistake; time will tell.

I wanted devonta Smith and I admit I was surprised at Parson's immediate success as a pass rusher after playing MLB at Penn st. I think the questions surrounding him were due to the hazing incident and his transition to being a pass rusher. Gentleman got that one right, F judge even more than Gettleman

Many gms would have probably taken Parsons as Gettleman wanted to do. And many gms would have probably seen that Garrett Wilson and Iki Ekwonu may have been better, there were many better alternatives. Thibs had more warning signs than Neal.

Ekwonu has been a lot better than Neal I think. I'm still hoping Neal turns it around. And I hope he isn't too hurt

My memory sucks for this stuff but I feel like there were football concerns about Parsons as well and you had some people on BBI not wanting to take him as a result. I know people on BBI aren't scouts but the football concerns were probably coming from professional scouts.
I'm a little annoyed at how many people are coming out saying they would have preferred Wilson. Most likely there's significant overlap with people saying that Reese wanted to play basketball on grass. They took two trench guys that were rated high. It's really hard for me to complain. I think it was just either really bad luck or really bad coaches.
I also don't see Akwonu as a higher floor guy, if I remember he was more raw than Neal.

For Daniel Jones and the NYG offense. It is a passing league now, it starts up front with solid offensive line and then a solid qb and solid weapons. Daniel Jones deserved this and I think going for a boom or bust end was a really poor decision, Neal also had a perceived much higher ceiling but lower floor. I think Schoen was dreaming a bit thinking he could hit on two guys with seemingly high ceilings but low floors. Ekwonu and Wilson or even Olave would have been much smarter and less risky picks.

I wouldn't call Thibs a trench guy as he is a speed passrush specialist, never had any power moves or any moves outside of speed moves which aren't working in the NFL very well. I get what you're saying, but I don't consider that a trench guy. Wilson was a surefire wr prospect, many on bbi wanted him. And Ekwonu had a higher floor in my mind because he had good feet quickness, Neal had amazing size and a higher ceiling lower floor because he never showed the elite feet while many thought it could be coached into him so far no luck. Ekwonu is turning into a very solid tackle and he only seems to be getting better at LT for Carolina. It sucks to imagine how much better we could be with those two guys instead of Neal and Thibs, that's the annoying part no?

In the trenches you need more time to develop. Consoder how long it took guys like Qiinnen Williams and Dexter lawrence to develop. Some clowns on this board if you remember were saying that the giants fell asleep at the wheel by picking Andrew Thomas over Becton
I have no idea what makes a good college OLmen into a decent NFL OLmen....the talk was that there were "4" studs in Thomas draft and "3" studs in Neal....supposedly.
I never watch Oregon...but Thibs has tools....more development is needed......but not sure temperament is fear provoking.
Parsons temperament IS fear provoking.
Enough said? Oh yeah there's also KT.
