but when you step back and look at the issues that we deal with weekly regardless of who the opponent is... we are struggling on both lines and we cannot tackle.

So, these things must be corrected before our team can truly compete.

IMO the season starts next Monday. We've played 2 of the top 4 teams in the league, and possibly the best 2 defenses. The good news is there are no rosy glasses now, the coaching staff has seen us against the best and know what needs to change. We didn't artificialy look good against weak competition, which as we know can lead to people thinking they are better than they really are.

The next few games will tell us all we need to know. We are still very young and I expect us to improve a lot between SF and the end of the season.

Agreed, I could see the offensive line honing into a unit that looks completely different from early season, into mid to late season. I'm not saying we win a superbowl, but the 2007 giants had a bit of a hodge podge o line that played better each week of the season until they honed into a formidable unit down the stretch. This happening with our current o line isn't out of the realm of possibility.

The season is firmly in their hands.

I always felt this was a 9-8 type year - they need to clean up a lot of the mistakes before they hit the stretch of winnable games in the middle of October.

This Seattle game coming up is huge for their playoff aspirations.

The team as it is constructed

is a year away from being a year away. They need their draft picks to start hitting. And I am speaking specifically of KT and Neal. This team is full JAGs and Johhny-hardworks. They're getting their heads handed to them at the flashpoint of the plays, also known as the trenches. Yes, it's Week 3 but they are not playing like a team that is ready to compete for the playoffs. The gap has not been shortened by any means with the rest of the NFC. They have to show they can do at least 1 thing well, and at this moment, they don't.

The scoreboard indicated the game was close for most of it. But, the reality said otherwise. The Niners were in complete control from the opening drive.

Wacthing the Defense

Has been really painful. The team just is bad on Defense. While he can agree the Giants lost to good teams, we can't ignore just how futile the defense has been. And the defense has been way less short handed than the offense. Thomas, Barkley, Bredeson - thats a lot to lose and you can understand them feeling it. There's no excuse for the defense sucking this much though.
