well technically 15 days, but two weeks from NHL Opening Day Eve.
Pre-season games in action all over the league.
BOS beat NYR 3-0, pre-season means nothing, but the Bruins goalie was incredible, at least one candidate for "save of the season" - ok that's a joke the pre-season is 1 day old, but it was a great save.
Opening Day is October 10th. And the league opens with a solid triple-header all on ESPN.
TBL vs NSH 5:30 PM
CHI vs PIT 8:30 PM (Bedard debut vs Crosby's Pens)
LVG vs SEA 10:30 PM (banner raising in LV I imagine)
then 6 games on the 11th highlighted by MTL @ TOR, but also OTT and BOS season opener.
then 7 games on the 12th when the NYR and NJD open up.
Should be a great opening weekend.
This thread is for anything hockey.
I mentioned the Hockey Canada scandal on the last thread - that *will* have NHL impacts
You can discuss your teams prospects you are hoping to make the team, predictions, anything else.
some NYR news, Mika is day to day, not believed to be anything serious.
That dude is cooked.
I'd have called MTL on Jake Allen before signing Quick and Allen isn't great.
Halak always seemed like the perfect backup to me. He could play for long stretches in the case of an injury to Igor, and the dropoff is not as steep as it is for some goalies.
Halak is still a FA to the best of my knowledge, maybe thye pivot there if the Quick experiment fails.
I just hope Quick isn't the backup because of salary.
his 825k might make him the least expensive backup.
or maybe they plan to have Igor start 60+ games. Just no back to backs.
"I feel like Sean Payton"
lol.
I believe he and Drury are close (not that that means anything)
Both Hertl and Couture are signed long-term and approaching (or past in Couture's case) 30.
When I look at SJS roster I can't name anyone I would be interested in acquiring, even these two I would, if they kept some cap, but at these salaries will be hard to move them I think. In this cap strapped climate.

San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier said he'd listen to trade offers on centers Logan Couture and Tomas Hertl if they want to be moved.
Not a lot of regulars at F, but a fun lineup. May seem some gloves dropped.

They are loaded up front and in goal
They will be a fun team to watch this year

I think they could use another veteran defensive D, like a David Savard.
but the Stars are among a handful of teams I think are legit contenders.

They changed the format and it's brutal....drop down boxes and just ugly compared to last year. You can't even tell if it's intermission if you happen to join a game in progress.
I'm viewing a game now and the clock is running but it's between periods.......how would you even know?
Not sure if the NHL app changed but hopefully not.

yeah, it's awful
50/50 chance
Definitely, younger players often struggle on the dots.
that said, I mentioned previously I feel like I could not play him at C on a contending team without a guy on his line who can win a draw. Quite a few teams do that if they have a W who can take a face off and a C who can't.
Chytil is 24 now, so he's getting to the point where you expect him to start improving or realize he never will.
So much in hockey (good and bad depending on your perspective) is traced back to a face off.
