Jake Marsh @ PardonMyTake reporting Jets exploring a trade

With Vikings for QB Kirk Cousins
Don’t know this guy at all but it is on the KC Chiefs website as Vikes next Chiefs opponent
Could be total BS!!!

man that franchise is just chasing. How will this work cap wise? They either need to create room for a 1 year rental or extend him with Rodgers on the payroll?

On the Vikings front, interesting move, Cousins isn’t taking you to an NFC title game. But I’m not sure what the Jets can offer with all the picks they’ve traded.
They have to do something
Greg from LI : 9/26/2023 9:54 am : link
You simply cannot continue to run Wilson out there. It's tantamount to forfeiting the season.
Eh,
HoodieGelo : 9/26/2023 9:56 am : link
anything Barstool related could very easily just be an attention grabber so I take that with a grain of salt. I enjoy a lot of their content, especially PMT, but not exactly trustworthy.
Probably not the only QB they are asking about.
MOOPS : 9/26/2023 10:00 am : link
Minny is 0-3 and the odds of their making the playoffs are statistically miniscule. You know Cousins is a numbers guy and good chance would get the Jets to the playoffs with the talent they have. Wilson won't.
Doesn't hurt to ask.
oh save us Kirk Cousins

Tyler Heinike? I’m sure he’d be cheap he played well on a team with limited talent
It is a comedy show
Essex : 9/26/2023 10:03 am : link
with a lot of NFL connections. It would not surprise me if they had some insight. Kirk Cousins has been a guest on the show a few times and they do establish relationships with their guests.
They should target a backup QB
UConn4523 : 9/26/2023 10:04 am : link
for a late round pick. Not exactly sure who that is but there’s too many problems with Cousins. The compensation, the salary, and him also not being a big time gamer makes it a no go for me if I were a Jets fan.

Kirk Cousins is Johnny Unitas compared to Zach Wilson
I don't know if Wilson is any good at all (probably not) but...
sb from NYT Forum : 9/26/2023 10:05 am : link
...He is playing like he is deathly afraid of making a mistake. "Take the nearest open man as soon as you can" type play. I am sure that's coaching.
Carson Wentz is no great shakes
Greg from LI : 9/26/2023 10:07 am : link
But the Jets turning him down was stupid when the alternative is Wilson. Lacking as Wentz is, he's much better than Wilson.

OL is worse than the Vikings, too.
What would prevent the Vikings from
OBJ_AllDay : 9/26/2023 10:11 am : link
abolutely taking the jets to the woodshed in this scenario? Cousins is a good qb. I would ask for a kings ransom if I were vikes in that scenario.
You like that?
George : 9/26/2023 10:11 am : link
I like that.
I was watching a bunch of QBs this weekend thinking
Chris684 : 9/26/2023 10:12 am : link
Man if only the Jets went that route they’d probably have a chance to compete for a WC. Names like Dalton, Minshew, Dobbs, etc.

Obviously no one knew Rodgers would definitely get hurt but his age is no secret. They should have at least upgraded the backup QB position along with getting him.
Why would Cousins
redwhiteandbigblue : 9/26/2023 10:12 am : link
want to go to a team with a flimsy OL to become a backup next year when Rodgers is healthy?
Can’t be anybody
Sammo85 : 9/26/2023 10:14 am : link
More nervous for their job than Joe Douglas. The Wilson pick is his and the more Wilson plays with no alternative the worse it becomes. OL is also supposedly a “Joe Douglas” specialty.

Joe Douglas is horrendous. Dave Gettleman must regret not being friendlier to the media - he could’ve had the same garbage record and been treated like a king.
Possible trade discussion scenario
Rick in Dallas : 9/26/2023 10:17 am : link
Jets trade Wilson and 2 third round picks for Cousins
so the Jets 1st and 2nd picks are in escrow
Giantsfan79 : 9/26/2023 10:24 am : link
The Packers are getting the 2, I guess the Vikings can put a lien on the 1st
I don't see the Jets trading Wilson for a QB
NoGainDayne : 9/26/2023 10:25 am : link
I also think the Vikings need to be a few more losses in the hole before they'd trade their starting QB coming off the playoffs.

Don’t see the Vikings being ok with that package. They will be in for a nice comp pick just letting Cousins walk while also still potentially contending for the playoffs. An extra 3rd isn’t good enough and I don’t think Wilson has any value.

They are going to want a future first.
I think Matthew Stafford would be better option for Jets.

Stronger Arm. I think he matches up better with Jets WR to get them the ball downfield

How will this work, trade Stafford when you are 1-2 and punt the season for a crappy Jets package? And from the Jets perspective, how can they take on a $50m cap hit the next 3 years while also paying Rodgers?

Yep. Wilson has his faults no doubt and was profiled as a boom or bust draft pick. Saleh is not a good HC and Hackett is nothing great either. Neither will be there next season.
First, how much money do the Jets have?
PatersonPlank : 9/26/2023 10:56 am : link
Second, why would Cousins do well behind the Jets line, with the Jets receivers, when he can't win with Minnesota?

Third, why would Minny do this (the Jets would need to sell the farm)

Fourth, Cousins doesn't sound to me like a NYC type of guy

Free agent or not

Cousins has been a starter for years. Why would he choose to be a backup in a year. Makes no sense. He will find a atarting job somewhere next year.

The Vikings should trade Cousins while his stock is still this high. It's not going to get any higher as the season goes on.

fkap : 9/26/2023 11:12 am : link
is, barring a miracle, a lost cause for the Jets. Tank the season and take a QB high. No guarantee AR is coming back, or if he'll be around long if he does. Or use the pick/trade it for multiple picks to improve the team for AR.

They knew Wilson wasn't the answer. That's why they traded for AR. AR is injured, making for a perfect excuse as to why the season is lost. If losing your star starting QB on the 4th play of the season doesn't give you an excuse, nothing will.

HomerJones45 : 9/26/2023 11:13 am : link
Someone is throwing shit at the wall with Cousins. Minnesota is not trading Cousins and run with Nick Mullens. Far more likely that the Vikings will move Mullens. That would make Saleh happy because he wants the SF offense even though he doesn't have Shanahan's brains to run it. No qb in Minnesota, no Jefferson extension and he is leaving at the end of next season. So, trading Cousins is losing two star players. If the Jets are having qb conversations with Minny, it's probably over Mullens.

This was supposed to be a "watch and learn" year for Wilson with his idol Aaron Rodgers. Circumstances unfortunately intervened. Doubly unfortunate to have the guy exposed to Hackett who somehow managed to destroy Russell Wilson's reputation.

There are not a lot of viable alternatives for the Jets.

He’s the back up there, probably could be had for a 4th

be surprised if the Vikings traded Cousins. The Jets would also have to pay a fortune to get Cousins, even more so because the entire league knows they can't continue with Wilson. Aside from a few good throws, Wilson looks totally lost. His pocket presence is nonexistent and he is not seeing open receivers. The Jets are wasting their defense and G. Wilson is upset on the sidelines. The fans are booing.

My guess is the Jets trade for a backup QB, who would still be an improvement over Wilson. Somebody mentioned Heinicke. He'd be a possibility.

At what cost? Lose your fan base before October? And for what, a crappy package of picks?

Jets can’t afford the compensation or his salary IMO.

I think MN needs to see how this weekend goes. If they lose to CAR this weekend (they are only 3 points favorites) they'd be 0-4 and realistically in the mix for Caleb Williams. At that point, might as well trade Cousins (they'd be able to get at least a 3rd from the Jets) and truly embrace the tank.
I
AcidTest : 9/26/2023 11:22 am : link
wonder if the Jets would be interested in T. Taylor. He's mobile, which he'd have to be behind the porous Jets OL. He's also an established veteran who wouldn't have to move to a different city. I wonder if the Giants would be interested in trading him.
Not sure this makes sense for either team, but the Jets' issues extend
mikeinbloomfield : 9/26/2023 11:23 am : link
beyond Wilson. Hackett is awful. Whoever they bring in at QB isn't going to change that.

We all somehow knew the Jets were going to Jet.

Because Cousins and the Vikings are expected to part ways at the end of this season anyhow.
Unilkely to happen three games into this season, however.

You're asking their teams to give up on 2023 and beyond (searching for a new starting QB). What could the Jets possibly offer to get a team to do that? 1st round picks for 5+ years? It's not like the Jets are so dominating everywhere else where any QB could get them a ring this year. They are deluding themselves.
Why did the Jets let Mike White walk?
Hammer : 9/26/2023 11:42 am : link
I mean, I get it. Douglas invested a 2nd overall pick in the kid, but he had to know that if Rogers got hurt it was all over but the crying.

It is better to admit you made a mistake and move on than risk everything by trying to cover it up.

Keeping Wilson and letting White leave was a monumental disaster that should cost Douglas his job.

They should've shored up backup QB as well. When they got Rodgers, Wilson should've been moved out.
Why not Tyrod Taylor?

If we lose to the Seahawks we aren't making the playoffs.

Devito looked better than him preseason.
