Walking.
In CT, non-combustable night. Walked the neighborhoods the night b4 for lawnmower engines to build minibikes and look for discarded Playboy magazines.
Taking my weekly allowance to the candy store to buy baseball cards. Doubles were used in school to play "knockdowns" and Farthees".

and burning them in the backyard.......twisting the control on top of the tv to rotate the roof antenna looking for the best picture....hiding in the house when troupes of Jehovah witnesses were going door to door....the life insurance salesman coming to the house every month to get a check and fill out a receipt at the kitchen table....snowball forts and fights with the neighbors across the street, "no charging" rules in place.....our doctor making a house call, his medical bag full of those dreaded needles.....watching the Vietnam war footage on the nightly news including the famous moment an NVA, hands tied behind his back gets a pistol's bullet in the head, he slumps to the ground as blood sprays out like a fountain.....being sick and at home from school that day in November when JFK is assassinated, the tv with a special report, mom looking in horror as she turns off the vacuum, and starts crying. Halloween, when no matter what disguise I wore the neighbors always guessed it was me due to my thick glasses seen through the eye holes of the various masks. Midget football league and how great it felt to be on the championship team.

A group of us kids chasing the mosquito spray fog truck as it drove slowly through the neighborhood. I believe it was DDT, but who knew back in those days!

Another enviro disaster. Riding our bikes through blue/green yellow fluids that were leaking from thousands of 55 gallon drums stacked up in fields in Monmouth/Ocean County.

Playing with mercury with our bare hands.

Riding our bikes Pelaton style in groups of 10-12 kids to go to Allaire State Park.

I'm 75 and my brother is 73, so I guess we have great immune systems!

Announcing little league games. My league allowed players to do it as long as you took it seriously. There'd usually be 3 of us keeping the game book and announcing. At 9 and 10 years old, running a press box lol.

Putting baseball cards or Huggs juice bottles in your bike to make it sound like a motorcycle.

My paper route ("I had to visit 200 houses. Or 2 dumpsters" - Mitch Hedberg)

Bazaars/block parties. Big in northeast PA, little Fri-Sat-Sun events with food and games held in the summer by churches and fire companies as fundraisers.

I had forgotten about box ball … a ball, a good piece of chalk, a stick and some bottle caps and we were set for the summer.

For some reason I remember those knife/scissor sharpener trucks as always being a darkish green...

The knife sharpeners also made a sound announcing their arrival. It was somewhat cacophonous.

I also remember the Twilight Zone and other TV shows.

Listening to baseball and football on small portable radios.
I was a bit off but I would keep the stats.

Walking to school and the crosswalk guards with their white vinyl shoulder belts.

The World's Fair. Free tickets to Mets games after spending the day at the Fair. The great food including the Belgium Waffles.

The sound of the electric carts playing leave the driving to us.

Baseball at Marine Park.

Playing football with a hand me down helmet, pads, shoulder pads and a weathered football.

Oklahoma drills, running laps after practice in full gear, sprinting in full gear, the wing T, etc.

Listening to Marty Glickman and Al DeRogartis doing play by play on the radio. I was too young to drive with the older relatives, to Connecticut to watch on TV!

And who on this board, remembers when the National Anthem was the signal that the TV was going off the air. No nothing but a test pattern until about 5-6 AM.

Before semiconductors tubes handled the connections (think light bulb things). When you turned on the system it would have to warm up to get going, so the music would "rev up" from no sounds to loud over like 10 seconds or so. Are these systems were all in one cabinet which would look good against a wall.
