Disastrous start as Europe is at least 2 up with all four matches through 8. Need Cantlay and Schauffle to turn the match around as that is the most realistic chance at salvaging a half point/point in the morning session.
Not even close in these Ryder Cups.
Ryder Cup means everything to Europeans.
Just a competition for Americans. That has to change.
The Europeans are just a better talent core (at least this team against this American team). That and they've kept competitive playing in the BMW overseas while the Americans have been lounging since post-Fedex.
And on top of that, it is so much more difficult to go to Europe and adjust to the time zone in the same week. Europeans have been there for over a month.
It is bad prep work by Zach Johnson. All of these guys should've played at least one tourney and been over in Europe at least half a week earlier.

The whole team was over there 2 weeks ago for 4-5 days, playing the course. They flew out on Sunday of this week. It shouldn't take that long to get used to the time difference.

This is a bit unfair. I think the Americans are just as passionate as the Europeans when it comes to the Ryder Cup. I think the biggest thing is that the home team has a tremendous advantage because they get to pick the course and layout the course to the strengths of their own team. This is a prototypical European course that their side has grown up playing on. Narrow fairways, thickness rough, rolling fairways that create tough lies, etc

Crap, you're right. My mistake there. Either way, Europeans are more in tune for competitive play, and they're just the hotter team (imo).
buzzsaw, today needs to finish at a minimum 6-2. If the US can do better than that, they have a chance to win. Hovland was on fire in the am and Fitzpatrick was -6 thru their first 6 holes, cant blame anyone on that.
Johnson needs to sit down and tweak his pairings for tomorrow morning. No need to sit Brooks in four ball. Harman should sit the morning and play the afternoon session, some guys need to hit every shot to get a flow, and I feel like he is that type of guy
didn't do anything resembling choking, they birdied 7 of the last 8 holes. They only got a half point because Rahm had two eagles.
The other 2 were total choke jobs
That’s fair but the whole team choked in general. Spieth should be ashamed of himself and the last group wanted nothing to do with th spotlight. For as good as Clark played for the majority of the round - that 18th was pathetic.
I don’t think spieth put a ball in regulation the last 6 holes. Not a fairway, not a green. Nothing.
The Europeans make the putts when necessary and the Americans do not. I also think many American players are satisfied to make the team and winning is icing on the cake. Like Azinger said, for the Europeans, the Ryder Cup is in their heart while for the Americans, it’s in their head. This is so over. A typical strong Sunday in singles will make it look closer than it really is. 30 years and counting not winning over there. PATHETIC & EMBARRASSING.
Fowler didn’t belong in the first round. And I don’t care how they played this year - Thomas/Spieth are Ryder cup gold. They are in deep do do
Same old same old across the pond. USA can't make putts. Europe can.

No clue why they say the first four.
We are terrible at this event in europe. When was the last time we got a result out there 93 was it?
Can Spieth do anything the last two holes. Schleffer got those hands around his neck again.

You knew he was going to miss that one, after making the one on the last hole and then staring at the crowd. Need JT and Spieth to win their match.
Rahm with a huge eagle...FFFFFFFF
Thomas needs to halve this.
Wyndham Clark just with two of the worst shots he ever probably hit.
Really sad performance today.

Technically it was 4 with the putt from off the green. Just insane to do that over 36 holes.

The putting was horrible.
Rory McIlroy & Tommy Fleetwood-Justin Thomas & Jordan Spieth
Viktor Hovland & Ludvig Åberg-Scottie Scheffler & Brooks Koepka
Shane Lowry & Sepp Straka-Max Homa & Brian Harman
Jon Rahm & Tyrrell Hatton-Patrick Cantlay & Xander Schauffele
Rory McIlroy & Tommy Fleetwood-Justin Thomas & Jordan Spieth
Viktor Hovland & Ludvig Åberg-Scottie Scheffler & Brooks Koepka
Shane Lowry & Sepp Straka-Max Homa & Brian Harman
Jon Rahm & Tyrrell Hatton-Patrick Cantlay & Xander Schauffele
I really don't get those. USA is probably only favored in 1 match... Why not split up Koepka/ Scheffler?
While Spieth was horrific, JT choked away those 2 putts. Why do these 2 deserve another shot tomorrow?
I also don't understand why Burns is on this team. They left some serious talent back home- Young, Bryson, DJ, Bradley.
Americans we’re definitely undergolfed coming into the Ryder Cup except Koepke.
