Andrew Thomas won't practice today

Essex : 9/29/2023 12:45 pm
after practicing yesterday. Per Daboll.

Must have had a setback (my guess).

ryanmkeane : 9/29/2023 12:46 pm : link
Completely idiotic that they basically let him practice the entire time he's been hurt.
Must be pretty bad
OBJ_AllDay : 9/29/2023 12:47 pm : link
He's a tough dude. Hopefully Ezedu can hold his own.
I would guess

it's just a rest day so he's ready for Monday, but what do I know. Hopeless optimist here.

I agree
All because of a damn blocked FG.

Sucks.
Just declare him out, please
UberAlias : 9/29/2023 12:52 pm : link
And what a terrible decision it was in the first place leaving him in there against Dallas.
Another reason I liked Cross in that draft
widmerseyebrow : 9/29/2023 1:04 pm : link
I'm still hopeful for Neal, and this is probably a minor setback for AT, but having a good pass protector on the right side (even if "out of position") AND insurance for AT if he can't beat the injury bug would have been preferrable to me.

Touche. Funny enough I created this username amongst all the hysteria around OBJ's antics following the infamous boat trip and GB game. Fun times. I miss the days of when we could complain about a player being too passionate.

Or maybe it was the Carolina game where he tried to decapitate Norman.
isn't Saturday the key day?
djm : 9/29/2023 1:17 pm : link

I think we can take this both waya
George from PA : 9/29/2023 1:20 pm : link
He could just as easily shown enough yesterday.....to take a rest day today

Why push it.

I hope they over draft OL next year....this OL has been Achilles heal too long
Daboll has shown
fkap : 9/29/2023 1:29 pm : link
he's a rest day kind of coach.

At this point, that should be the default scenario, unless there's additional info. I know that's not as much fun as automatically assuming the worst and condemning the staff.

yes, but i don't think i have ever seen a player who has come off injury go from LP to DNP to FP to playing. I am sure it has happened, but usually when you go backwards, it is a bad sign.

A rest day on the second practice day is common for veteran players who have been playing--not for players trying to get back to playing.
Yikes!

I agree it's not positive, but it wouldn't be a vet rest day. It would be an injury rest day after his first practice in 2 weeks. Most likely he's not ready to go, but possible it just makes more sense to rest his hammy a couple more days than practice. If there's a guy who could go Monday after just a walkthrough tomorrow it's Thomas.

Because of the risk.

1) He's the only one not practicing today. Not a good sign.
2) Art Stapleton

Andrew Thomas will stay inside for treatment on his hamstring and will not practice today, per Brian Daboll.
Won’t say a setback, but Thomas did not look entirely comfortable yesterday. #NYGiants

I'm not optimistic on Williams but he did say if he was a skill player his injury would be an issue but in his role he could wrap it up and go. FWIW.

Incomprehensible, esp. in light of how the game went the first 20 minutes.

Thomas is a big dude, thickly built; the thicker the hamstring the longer (and more unpredictable) is the healing of the tear
It
AcidTest : 9/29/2023 2:57 pm : link
sounds like he'll be a game time decision, which isn't surprising. Hamstring injuries often take at least several weeks to fully heal.

Ezeudu can fill in again. No excuses. Win the game, because if we don't, we might be 1-5 in a few weeks.

Would anyone be surprised if the sports science folks recommended he get a rest day?
The team rested all preseason
kelly : 9/29/2023 3:19 pm : link
How has that worked out?

Coming back from a hamstring early is the worst way to go. That is how you lose players for the year.

I think it was initially the FG block, then it was worsened by the INT return. What a horrendous sequence.
Stating the Obvious: we need Thomas at 100% for Monday night
SGMen : 9/29/2023 4:46 pm : link
and beyond. He is by far our best OL and can shut down a pass rusher by himself whereas Neal occasionally needs help. It changes everything if he can't go and go effectively.
We are so screwed if he's going to be gone for 7-8 weeks altogether

For Giants. A team oft injured and slow to heal.
IF he doesn't go
fkap : 9/29/2023 6:33 pm : link
it was, as said, a really bad decision to leave him in the Dallas game. The replay of him a couple plays after the initial injury looked bad.
My guess is it's to rest

I love Dabs, but him being out there as long as he was vs. Dallas...idiotic. Just pure idiocy.
Dabs hasn't distinguished himself
Dave on the UWS : 9/30/2023 8:33 am : link
in many ways this year. The above mentioned stupidity.
The team clearly NOT being ready to start the year. Usage of personnel. Musical chairs at the guard position in training camp. Way too many ill advised decisions this year. If it was his first year, we would be screaming about it. He bought some good will and time from last year's unexpected success.
In my book, the jury is still VERY out.
Hard to criticize Dabs
HBart : 9/30/2023 8:39 am : link
For keeping Thomas in while keeping Jones in -- especially because we have no idea what the player or med staff told him.

The Jones decision was puzzling and I think bad (though I know had be pulled Jones earlier he'd be getting flack for giving up).

So Dabs isn't perfect. In retrospect he and the team are being judged for Dallas, not since.

Don’t think he’s gonna play either. If he does he might actually be a liability.

Would anyone be surprised if that’s the spoonfed excuse Daboll will serve up for public mass consumption?

If anyone misses time now, it was a pre-planned sports science strategy. That’s Daboll.

FFS man. You clowns are unbelievable. Coach of the year. Led the team to the playoffs in his first season. Won a road playoff game, which they haven’t done in forever.

Fast forward THREE games into the very next season and all you morons have decided he’s Joe Judge and can’t get out of his own way. Such a disgraceful fan base. Daboll would have another head coaching job in 5 seconds if he were let go. This sudden turn on him from the fans is embarrassing

BBS, people throwing in the towel on Dabs are idiots. That said, I think he made a mistake letting AT gut it out as long as he did vs. Dallas.
I think leaving the starters in against Dallas was the right move
Shirk130 : 9/30/2023 10:08 am : link
judging by how they came out they obviously didn't get enough playing time in the preseason and needed the reps. Injuries suck but they do happen, running your whole preseason around worrying about injuries seem to be a sure way to start off slow.

But I do question how ready the team was for the first half of the Arizona game.
I do believe there are some growing pains involved in becoming a great Head Coach in this league.
We have played 2 Playoff caliber teams and sleptwalked thru the first half of the other....
All that being said,AT and Saquon are our 2 best players and if they cant contribute,we simply are a lesser team
