I don't want Stroman back. Pham is out. it would be interesting if they picked up Canha again. That seems doubtful, however.
The canary in the coal mine will be if Vogel is back. If he is they are "rebuilding". If they jettison him then you know they are re-loading and just told Max that to get him to waive his trade clause and thought his best days were behind him.
I would really like to see them add a powerhouse RF. This lineup cooked when Marte was on his game, but he is damaged goods now. Buy him out and look elsewhere. Maybe in Juan Soto's direction.
Add quality Starting Pitchers in their Prime.
No to Stroman. And Hell No to Vogey. This roster needs a refresh.

Soto is my top wish, behind Yamamoto. Sign Yamamoto and trade some prospects for Soto. Mets have a glut (never a bad thing), so I would have no issue doing something like Parada and Acuna for Soto. Parada blocked at DH and C by Alvarez and Vientos. INF you have Lindor, Jett coming, McNeil, Mauricio, younger guys, etc.
I would love if the Mets could sign Nola away from Philly
That said, I want Yamamoto and another top 8 SP from that list, and even though he's a Phillie I would love Nola.
We need some relievers, anxious to see what Stearns does with this high end prospect group. I don't think all of Alvarez, Batt, Vientos, and Mauricio will be here next year, so who does he trade and who does he bet on?
What to do with Alonso? I am not one to think Alonso is untradable. If you got Burnes, signed Yamamoto, sign Nola, to go with Senga and Quintana, then you have the staff yo compete against anyone. And you put Vientos at first or whatever, sign Mitch Garver who can play first base, DH and catcher. I'm spitballing here but I'd like to see an elite rotation with no one older than 33 (other than Quintana).
Get the Acuna up here and hopefully Gilbert not too far behind.
I believe in Vientos, Alvarez, and Mauricio and think they will generate enough power. Where everyone plays I have no idea.
Interesting that on that list...we only have Ottavino & Cookie

I would love to see them turn Mauricio into a RF. Perhaps that is where they feel Gilbert will slot into long term.
But one thing that makes sense to me is that you have Acuna, Mauricio, and Jett, and all are middle infielders with SS locked down by Lindor. The obvious solution is you have to start making one or two of these guys outfielders in the near term. Squirrell can play left. I want to see Acuna in the majors by the end of May, and he needs to play MI or CF, CF would be my preference, but then you have to move Nimmo, and that means LF bc he doesn't have a RF arm.
Then Jeff moves to DH? Or permanent 2B? If the latter...Mauricio needs to be in RF or you should just trade someone. Do you really make Jeff the primary DH in this scenario?
RE: Interesting that on that list...we only have Ottavino & Cookie
How about a little love for Trey McLoughlin who has now made 8 appearances in the AFL without allowing a run. Among P who have thrown at least 5 innings only 7 have yet to allow a run
that he was going to be a Met but Hader has made clear to teams he expects to close. Not exactly a surprise, the "surprise" is probably the promo/hype video he sent to teams narrated by Trevor Hoffman lol
but the competition will be fierce. If I’m Stearns, I definitely look into what it would take to get Soto, but I’d be OK with a DJ Stewart/Marte combo in RF. Bullpen obviously is a priority as well. Minor league pitching doesn’t have a lot of top of rotation potential, but it is fairly deep. Hopefully a couple of guys pop and either provide back end of rotation help or bullpen.
RE: I would love if the Mets could sign Nola away from Philly
There just aren’t many attainable ones that fit what they’re looking for. High end, not depth.
If they don’t get them, Pete moving increases.
if this means they are looking for velocity than it's basically yamamoto. or trading for burnes.
im not so sure it's worth chasing velocity in the starting rotation bc of all the risks that come along with it. rangers won the ws without a ton of velocity. dbacks didnt win but they similarly lacked high end velo. kelly, dunning, montgomery, gallen, scherzer, heaney all bottom have avg velo. eovaldi 69th percentile sure but senga at 77th percentile actually higher.
RE: RE: I would love if the Mets could sign Nola away from Philly
actually reasonably happy Narvaez is returning. Alvarez spoke highly of him, Christian Scott raved about him when he was rehabbing and he's friendly with Stearns (texted him when he was hired) if they hire Counsell, obviously him as well. As long as it's a 70/30, 80/20 split playing time-wise, I think Narvaez will provide "value".

For sure. He's a quality guy in that role. Miles ahead of the trash we had before masquerading as starters even in Nidon't and McCann't.
@FabianArdaya
The Dodgers have declined right-hander Lance Lynn’s $18 million club option for 2024, a source tells The Athletic. He will receive a $1 million buyout.
A reunion is still possible between the two sides. Dodgers expected to be in the pitching market this winter.

While $7M is a little pricey for that "value," if he is helping prospects exceed expectations and is comfortable being a bench player you find ways to adjust.
The Mets had 2 guys in the front office whose names started with a T. I thought I read somewhere that one of them left for another team.
Is my memory correct ?? Is this a big loss ??
Marc Tramuta is now with the Blue Jays. Drew Toussaint took on a bigger role in 2023 so that's likely the true reason Tramuta left and not a Stearns "firing" etc.
surgery for Kershaw. He's "hopeful" he will pitch again. Dodgers are now down 2 of their SP (he and Lynn) they will surely be involved in the SP market.
How does the industry feel about Counsell as next Mets manager?
surgery for Kershaw. He's "hopeful" he will pitch again. Dodgers are now down 2 of their SP (he and Lynn) they will surely be involved in the SP market.
Plus they may want to move on from Urias. Gonsolin out for the year with Tommy John. Buehler recovering from TJ

the free agent market for pitchers may be ferocious. i would probably bet against there being a "bassitt" type steal for anyone this year.

Well, it doesn't help either that there isn't much in terms of FA hitters. Beyond Ohtani, Bellinger and Chapman are the next big names. I would expect the trade market to be active as well because of this.
What kind of package would it take to get Soto from the Padres ??
Knowing that the Padres had to get a Loan to make payroll last September and will not be able to afford Juan Soto next year....what could the Mets offer in a deal. I think the Padres have got enough infielders as it stands now. They might want some cost-controlled pitching. The Mets have some interesting arms in the high Minor Leagues.

I had proposed Parada and Acuna. I think that's fair. I'd rather stay away from trading Vasil/Tidwell/Scott, but if say Parada/Clifford/and another pitcher got it done, I'd do that.
Really would want to keep Jett and Gilbert on the minor league end.
Past three years: 3 different teams, 3 World Series rings. A good luck charm that can overcome the cursed Mets?

Ottavino will be a good re-sign for reasonable money as a bullpen piece hoping that Diaz is back and good as new!

The Mets won't sign a starting pitcher who receives a qualifying offer.

despite the rumors im not totally convinced on that.

Just because they don’t want to, doesn’t mean they absolutely won’t give up a pick. Never say never.

they may have to. whatever this offseason lacks in velocity and position players, the strength is in a pretty good number of prime aged SP options.
Carlos Mendoza is also familiar with @mets C Omar Narvaez as both were members of the 2023 VZ WBC team, Mendoza serving as bench coach #Mets
bottomline is i expect they will spend at least $50m or $60m on pitchers that will get them back to the $300m payroll range from 2022.
Are you predicting this?
or,
It has actually happened?
