can we talk about what is happening there this year? Thought to be one of the least talented teams in the league this year, but Demeco Ryans and CJ Stroud have them looking REALLY good.
Their defense has a bunch of "no names" outside of Will Anderson.
Their offensive line is a mess outside of Tunsil - but they look great
Their playmakers on offense are a bunch of ??? - yet they look extremely competent
Would just love to discuss what is happening down in Houston and what parallels/disconnects there are between there and here.
Their OL is blocking better despite injuries.
Tank Dell is an animal.
Schultz is just a very reliable TE
And Demaco Ryans and Bobby Slowick should be candidates for COY of the year and assistant coach of the year.
The 49ers are producing great offensive minds.
Pin this.
Cut all the bullshit and get the QB.
Yes, you're right. The Bengals just simply weren't hyped up enought.
Jesus.
If you can't see that Stroud is playing MVP-level football (not ROY... MVP), then you are have no idea what you are watching.
Cannot have a QB that stands there holding the ball while the walls crash in around him.
But there is no rationale conversation to be had in that cesspool of negativity.
Basically I was told how much better their O-Line is than the Giants (pssst they've been trash).
How much better their WR's are than the Giants... I'd never heard of Noah Brown and Tank Dell before this year.
How much better their run game is than the Giants (pssst it's been shit, they had a nice game yesterday). Texans run game has been absolute piss poor this year.
Oh yeah. CJ Stroud. There's your answer.
How about the Vikings? We beat them in the playoffs last year but yet they can lose their QB, Justin Jefferson, Dalvin Cook... Trade for a guy that doesn't know the offense and win 2 straight.
But but but. Our O-Line. Our QB. So fucking tired of the excuses for this team being a train wreck, year in and year out.
On the Giants there's a much better chance that the QB gets killed than the coach.
Now...everyone knew Stroud would be great...
of course they did.
it's like how when you read posts now about the 2018 draft everyone knew Mayfield, Darnold, Rosen, would all be busts.
Why do you people feel the need to turn BBI into a den of lies?
Looks like the Houston Texans are the big winners so far of the 2023 Draft:
The Athletic: NFL Midseason All-Rookie Team
Houston Texans C.J. Stroud QB
Houston Texans Jarrett Patterson OL
Houston Texans Will Anderson, Jr. EDGE
Houston Texans Henry To'oTo'o LB
The Athletic: NFL Midseason All-Rookie Team - ( New Window )
Texans drafted two centers, one in the second round, one in the sixth. The sixth round pick, Jarrett Patterson, has been the 2023 starter, and has been pretty good; he grades betteer than Schmitz. The second round pick, Juice Scruggs, has been injured, but is ready to return, if he can win the job.
I'll admit, that threw me for a loop too. A bunch of schools now are doing away with standardized tests as well. This offseason is going to define Schoen's tenure here, for better, or for worse. I can't wait!
Tank Dell has been playmaking WR for Stroud as a 3rd round rookie. Also, don’t overlook getting a really good veteran TE like Dalton Schultz in FA. He’s given the rookie QB a nice security blanket. They coupled another solid vet in Singletary with a kid they drafted last year in Pierce (currently hurt) at RB.
They also added Anderson with 3rd overall pick to help D and credit to Ryans getting his team to buy in.
As far as rebuilds go, it’s hard to find a better formula than that. Kudos to them.

Clearly Chicago didn't see it with Stroud. Same with Carolina. So what made Houston see it? What was different about their process?
Yes, it is hard to find a franchise QB - but my point was that getting the right QB can change things VERY quickly

I didn't see your post because I was typing mine. Some additional comments:
Tank Dell is an obvious addition to the 2023 draft useful list; good stats and PFF grade.
Henry To' has a bad PFF grade, but he's been out there.

Speaking of Tank Dell, I was jonesing for this guy in the Draft. Just can't ignore what this young man did in college, regardless of size!
Sometimes these franchises save you from the bad decisions you might make. Point is, Bryce Young was considered the guy last year and if Carolina takes Stroud do we think the Texans are not taking Young?
Of course having the top pick puts it squarely on your shoulders but beyond that you need to know who that guy is and if/when you need to trade up to make sure you have him.
So far Stroud has been better out of the gate by a wide margin over Young. However, it is way too early to conclude that taking Young was a mistake.
Many around here have given Jones a pass on his first five years as "too early to say", but want to conclude on Young before a single full season.

The Georgia game?
The biggest knock on Stroud was that the previous OSU QBs were Fields and Haskins. Totally unfair to knock Stroud because those guys didn't pan out.
It’s a nice reminder that 1 player can change everything so the doom and gloom for eternity people can take a hike.
Stroud is a perfect example of why that thinking is completely illogical.
and it seems the Texans, as dysfunctional an organization as anyone have done that.

I knew Darnold was going to be a bust... I had seen so much of him. Of course on the flip side I thought Rosen was going to be amazing so completely wrong there. Wanted nothing to do with Mayfield.

Darnold was reckless and dumb, how was it hard to see he wasn't going to be good?

Now Pj...I'll also add that in my dynasty fantasy league, needing a QB desperately, I had my choice of all the rookie QBs, and I chose Stroud over Young. I'm feeling pretty great about it.
In terms of 2018, it was a mixed bag for me. I didn't love Mayfield, I really liked Darnold, I was adamant that Rosen would be a bust (I remember going back and forth with Milton about it), and I loved Josh Allen who I felt was the closest thing in the draft to Elway, but felt he would need more development time than Darnold, who was more pro ready in my estimation. I was over the moon happy with drafting Saquon.
I'm pretty sure I talked about how I would be happy with a trade back, netting more picks, and drafting Allen. I really, really liked Allen. Again, had him behind Darnold with how I ranked them. And I hated Lamar, thought he wasn't a real QB. I'm going to find some 2018 pre-draft stuff so we can see who really liked who, lol.

Now, in that same thread I linked, Section125 did say that he "liked Stroud over Young."
I am really surprised at how bad Bryce Young looks.
.
right. Which one?
.
lol, the closest thing to a consensus on there is people love Rosen. And he was the first one out of the NFL entirely.
THIS
I am really surprised at how bad Bryce Young looks.
He looks tiny. Smaller than Drew Brees without the arm.

You will get no argument from me. You're right, a lot of people on BBI loved Rosen. I was just defending Section125 a little and talking about how I viewed them, and I hated Rosen. I was very vocal about being anti-Rosen.

He's like 5'9 with an awful supporting cast ofc he looks awful. Stroud was clearly the better nfl qb.
Obviously the people making the decisions in real life are paid professionals, but even for them there is a wide range of outcomes.
