Other than to say we stink in all phases of the game we have no identity.
Giant football used to be a strong defense. Stop the run, pressure the passer.
On offense we would run the ball, play action pass.
I no longer see an identity with this team. Can anyone tell me what our offensive identity is? I don't know what Kafka is trying to do on offense. One game we go pass happy, the next game it's give it to Barkley 35 times. We do play action when we haven't been running. We pass when we have been successful running. The problem with Kafka and the offense is we try to be a different offense every week. That doesn't work consistently in the league. I think this also has hurt the performance of Jones.
On defense, Wink talks about pressure on the QB. Well in order to pressure the QB you have to first stop the run. But how many times have we seen two down linemen. Too many times. Wink wants to play man coverage, but if you don't have those players you can't play man. Nothing wrong with drafting Banks, but Giants always prioritized pass rush over secondary. If you can generate a pass rush with just 4 your secondary automatically looks better. So what is our defensive identity? Man coverage and blitz? Well that's great if you have the players for man coverage. How did that look the last two weeks?
I would like to see the Giants reestablish their past identity. On offense power football. run the ball, play action pass. On defense stop the run, rush the passer. I think we need to draft accordingly. Build the trenches on both sides of the ball, then fill in behind them with skill position players.
