JMS- is he the guy ?

AnskyJK : 11/13/2023 9:23 pm
I know, I know he’s a rookie . But this guy was supposed to be essentially close
to a finished product coming out of college. He’s been well below average center according to PFF and all other advance metrics. For a 2nd round pick as a center it really is disappointing
He's played about 4 games.

Too early to tell, but he hasn't been a problem
I think he's been solid
Jay on the Island : 11/13/2023 9:24 pm : link
The Arizona game he was outstanding.

Make it stop
He played 6 games…

as the 57th pick in the draft and was immediately better than anyone else on the inside of the line over the last two years. I am not sure how anyone could be disappointed in him at this point.

And was also missed when he wasn't in. He's better than veteran backups at worst.

Who has he played with? I think they said the starting OL played together for 1 series the whole year. An OL needs to play together and jell
What?
Andrew in Austin : 11/13/2023 9:41 pm : link
Almost no players are a finished product coming out of college.
I also believe he s a little undersized that will change this

MookGiants : 11/13/2023 9:52 pm : link
no such thing as close to a finished product coming out of college for any position. He was thought to be ready to play early out of college. I think thats what you meant.

There's zero point in really analyzing the play of a guy like JMS though when he has only played in what 4 games and he is playing with absolute trash next to him on each side at guard. The guards on this team are boat anchors. Neal has been disappointing but he would even benefit from having a much better player next to him at guard.
When he's in there he is our 2nd best OL player

what is not to like
JMS has played well his rookie season when healthy

Who's left on the team?

Is there a single player BBI or coach someone on BBI hasn't trashed in the last 48 hours?

The beer vendors better watch their backs.
He’s been up and down

But he’s a rookie and you could tell he belongs

This is fair.
He’s been very good.
Tuckrule : 11/14/2023 6:21 am : link
One thing concerns me is vs power. Thought he’d be much stronger being an older rookie but if he can add a little strength to his base we have our starter for 8 years
FWIW,
section125 : 11/14/2023 6:33 am : link
Shaun O'Hara wasn't exactly the strongest of centers, but was certainly excellent. NTs have become beasts. Pretty hard to out strength 345/350 lbs roadgraders and still have quickness to move/pull.
I think he's decent. I thought he'd be a little better, but he's ok

I’m too lazy to do the actual numbers but how many different
Spider56 : 11/14/2023 7:47 am : link
guard combinations have been next to him this year? and none of them have been very good. Right now, Pugh is still shaking off rust at LG and Bredeson is a journeyman.
Yes, he is the guy.
ThomasG : 11/14/2023 7:48 am : link
On a team that needs more guys.
….
ryanmkeane : 11/14/2023 8:06 am : link
Would love to see him play injury free ball these last 7 games so he can get a nice baseline for 2024
If you’re an interior O-lineman
Dang Man : 11/14/2023 9:09 am : link
And the guys you play next to are playing shitty it’s going to be hard to play your best. I think there’s a huge element to that going on right now. That said, I do think he can use some work in isolation against a bull rush, but another year of honing pro technique and a pro weight room will certainly help.
His strength was run blocking and his weakness was pass blocking.
Ivan15 : 11/14/2023 9:16 am : link
Nothing has changed. I do agree if the guards on either side of the center are constantly changing or are not consistent, the center will struggle too.
Really don't need this thread.
Gruber : 11/14/2023 9:29 am : link
Too much thinking going on.
Let the guy play a season first.
No one on this team is 'The Guy' at this point.
Dinger : 11/14/2023 11:15 am : link
They all have a lot of work to do. Dissappointing to say the least.
Reading Sy’s review, JMS is
Section331 : 11/14/2023 11:33 am : link
a work in progress, all rookies are. Yes, he was drafted primarily because he was seen as the most pro-ready of the OC’s in the draft, but that doesn’t mean there wouldn’t be growing pains. He didn’t play well on Sunday, but then again, no one did. He’s far down on the list of concerns right now.
We have
moaltch : 11/14/2023 12:39 pm : link
NO GUARDS, and no RT. Hard to evaluate him without a capable unit.

Thank you. Is he an all pro? No. But, he's a fucking rookie and wasn't expected to be. He is worlds better than anyone who played OC last year and anyone who filled in at OC this year. He has been solid to good when healthy and should only get better. I am not worried about him at all and I also give no credence to PFF rankings anyway, especially on OL.
It appeared to me without knowing
Mattman : 11/14/2023 12:57 pm : link
What is being called that the line calls started getting messed up badly when he went down.

He has performed well for a rookie center. He’s as advertised, not perfect by any means but he’s a rookie
