My draft day dream: Could this happen?

PepperJ52 : 11/14/2023 9:04 am
Let me preface this by saying I don’t think I can ever consciously root against the Giants, but with the situation the team is in, I certainly don’t grieve over any losses this year since the Jets game. I feel certain the Giants will lose out organically (i.e. even if TT comes back and starts and other missing starters return etc). It’s even imaginable to me that Belichick will try to subtly hand that game to the Giants and these Giants would fuck that up.
So, say the Giants do actually end up with the No. 1 overall pick. Could you see them pulling off a trade with whoever is sitting at No. 2 - presumably Chicago via Carolina or whoever- for that pick?
I’m thinking the Giants offer both their second round picks, a later round pick and next year’s first rounder. Is that enticing enough for the team picking behind them? Anyone think that’s at all realistic? If not, what do you think it would take and, is the risk versus reward even worth it?
I’m guessing many here share my fantasy and the Giants using the overall No. 1 on their top QB prospect and the No. 2 overall on Marvin. Could this happen, or am I living in fantasy land?
You are living in a fantasy land

Your words, not mine. But there's nothing wrong with that. Have a ball. It's sports. It's supposed to be fun.
That isn't realistic, nor should it be

You don't give up those resources for a WR, even Marvin Harrison Jr. You can sit still and get a very good WR in the second and still fill other needs.

If you want Harrison they will need to draft him with their first pick and then trade back up later in the first to get a second tier QB they believe in.
That would not even be close to getting it done

This is like George Costanza saying he could get Griffey and Bonds and "it wouldn't even cost that much."

You aren't even offering a 2023 first. My guess is you'd have to offer both 2nd round picks this year, 2024 first, 2025 first, 2026 first and Wan'Dale Robinson. That probably still isn't enough.
Correction:
Sean : 11/14/2023 9:12 am : link
2025 first, 2026 first and 2027 first
So, you think the Giants will be picking lower than #2?
Gruber : 11/14/2023 9:17 am : link
I salute your optimism.
Trading away picks is a dangerous game in our position, we need to plug so many holes. Sure, one maybe, for a quarterback, but several? Not a good idea.
Any GM that would do that for that little haul

with the Giants should be fired the next day

No offense taken. Just daydreaming and I’m impatient for a modern NFL passing game.

The Texans did something similar to get both Stroud and Will Anderson Jr last year, so it's not impossible, but super unlikely and probably not wise.

How about switching to cotton uniforms?

have to roll your eyes and shake your head.

You think a mid to late 2nd and a later pick this year, and next year's first is going to come close to what is needed to trade up 30 spots from the top of the second round to No. 2 overall. If they had the first and second picks (a QB and Harrison), and can get thru next year with minimal injuries, next year's pick could be in the 15 to 20 range. No team would take that deal (unless, of course, if Philly was offering it). The odds are better they can get Mahomes for just their own second rounder. :)
What happens if we win a few games?
joe48 : 11/14/2023 9:46 am : link
A fall from the top 4 pick would be something that hasn’t been talked about. Some people here would have a difficult time with that and it could very well
happen. Since you need a franchise QB to win a SB according to some there could be circumstances that might derail our chances.
Wow, before reading it through...

i thought, you were thinking about moving down to the #2 Pick from the #1 lol

That would make more sense than moving up to #1 and #2 imo
As of today Chicago will have 1st and 5th pick
kdog77 : 11/14/2023 9:49 am : link
and the Giants will have the 2nd pick. If the Giants finish DFL and get the 1st pick overall, and Chicago had 2nd and 5th pick, then I think you could find a trade scenario where Chicago gives Giants both 2 and 5 to move up to 1st overall, but I would assume the Bears will need something else in return. It would likely cost both 2nd round picks and additional day 3 picks or 2025 picks to make up the value of a top 5 pick. I don't think that will happen.

If the Giants have 1st, 33rd and 58th pick then I expect them to go QB, OL, and DL. This team has so many holes that picking a WR in top 3 would be a luxury pick Giants cannot afford during rebuilding year.
Just a heads up, I don't think Carolina has that much firepower.

My preferred option

would be to take MHJ then look to move up, if needed, for one of the tier 2 QBs. I dont think there's much of a drop off, if any from Maye/Williams to Daniels/Nix/JJ/Etc

True. That might be the only team the Giants are capable of beating at this point (if f they were on the schedule) but even that would be iffy. Oy vey.

AS a Giant fan, then only way I trade back is if the partner is Chicago and they are giving us both the #2 and #3 pick. I would be happy with Maye and Harrison Jr. instead of just Williams. But, that scenario is unlikely for a variety of reasons.

The Texans gave up the 12th and 33rd picks in 2023, and their 1st and 3rd round picks in 2024 to move up 9 spots. The OP wants to trade 2 second rounders, a 2025 first and another midround pick in 2023 to move up 31 or 32 spots to number 2 or 3. Not even in the same universe.
