Et tu, Mara(s)?

prematurely_blue : 11/14/2023 1:37 pm
The Giants are so good at losing when they are trying to win… If they can’t lose when they should be trying to lose, the Mara’s are even more inept than my worst nightmares.

I agree with what MookGiants said in this thread

Quote:
I would take any of the 3 QB's over any QB drafted in the last 15 years besides Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, Andrew Luck and Cam Newton coming out of college without even thinking about it.

Knifed by someone close to me sounds like a good time compared to year 6 of Daniel Jones and missing out on Williams, Maye and Daniels.

The Giants are bullies, but only in the sense that they enjoy beating losers.

John, don’t let your love of moral victories ruin another 10 years for us.

Love,

Any fan that doesn’t have some weird Daniel Jones Stockholm situation going on.

and that was a lot of rambling, but the core of his argument is absolutely right.

John Mara will not tank. You see all the hoops the guy in Miami did to tank, trust me Mara will not stand for that. And we will draft like 5 or 6 and out of the QB sweepstakes. It is just who Mara is.
Tanking isn't really even necessary in this situation

Really, why is tanking so bad if you have a long-term goal of improvement. If they dont want us to tank, make the draft a lottery.

The issue with a team openly tanking is that the NFL will sanction them for it by removing draft picks.

You could win but aren’t on purpose…the giants may not win another game this year and it will be because they are historically bad team…not because they want a higher pick
No problem

With the team tanking. It would show thinking 'outside the box', and an element of pragmatism that we need! Doing what we really need to eventually succeed. Of course, it needs to be done delicately, and the way in which we tank would show me how innovative and smart the powers that be are. Needles to say, I have zero confidence we'd do it, so some of you should be happy.

One of the narratives pushed by the commentators during the last game and Daboll was that they were evaluating DeVito and "liked some things they saw."

That might be a bunch of bs, but real tell will be when/if Taylor is brought back.

Really? Have you seen this team play. From opening game they gave the game away. They ve been finding a way to lose for years. This is just their MO. There is no way with the injuries they have they beat the Commanders let alone DeVito at QB. How could the league possibly prove the tanked the season?

Brilliant! Who else do they have to start? Of course DeVito starts until TT returns(kind of hope he stays on IR)

And yes, it is worth a look see to what DeVito can do and if he can be a backup.

and NOT getting Williams or Maye, in my book, puts me disastrously on the edge of giving up on this team and finding better things to do with my Sundays. If they don't draft high enough, they're going to need to move up, and you can't trust the Bears not to trade away their second pick to a team looking for a QB. I don't like Pinnock as much as Williams and Maye, and there's a serious drop-off in talent after those two QB's are taken.
They will win a game and even maybe two.

Wherever they draft odds are they will muck it up. I attend games to win not toss my time and money away. If you do not ay to win refund me, not happening either way.

The Giants can beat the Washington again and the Pats. Spuld not be shocked if they play the Packers tough and in the cold against the Rams who knows.
DeVito shouldn't even be in the NFL at all.
Fishmanjim57 : 11/14/2023 3:48 pm : link
He's a QB without the ability to do a forward pass, yet he will most likely be the starting QB for the next couple of games.
Joe Schoen was so preoccupied (thanks to the interference of John Mara and Mara's advisor Dave Gettleman), that all of the post season attention was spent on the Daniel Jones debate. Daboll and Schoen were ready to allow Jones become a FA, yet Mara/Gettleman insisted that the "organisation" should make him their "franchise QB". Unfortunately for the Giants fans, Mara won the argument and now we're stuck with a sub-par QB that the opposing defences easily read. I read a transcript from one of the defensive players for the Seahawks said that they noticed Daniel Jones stares at his projected target before each snap. To think that information like that wasn't released around the league would be wrong, every team knows how to play against DJ. I feel bad for DJ because he's a good person, but his abilities are tremendously limited.
Mara/Gettleman see Jones as an Eli Manning clone, but they're wrong about that too. Eli was a tremendous QB, who was crippled in his final seasons by the stupidity of the front office and their lack of ability to acquire OL personnel who would benefit Eli. So the stupidity within this organisation isn't anything new, but their inability to progress has been stunted by the same person, John Mara.
Looking at NYG remaining games, other than Philly 2x, they've got:
NBGblue : 11/14/2023 3:49 pm : link
Wash, NE, the Packers, the Saints and the Rams. They'll likely lose the majority of those games, but probably not all of them. I'd guess that there's at least 2 more wins coming.
We are tanking naturally just fine.
NorcalNYG : 11/14/2023 4:17 pm : link
Devito starts vs commanders and Patriots. Then even if tyrod comes back for saints, rams with Stafford, 2x eagles, and packers I think we are good. I've said it for weeks. I thought we would split with the Commanders and lose out from there with maybe 1 extra win vs the Patriots (but that was before the devito show.

R we watching the same team? We will have Devito for commanders and Patriots. Rams will have Stafford, Packers are not an awful team and Aaron Jones will be fully healthy most likely (their best offensive player) they will run us out of the stadium, Saints even with Winston are much better, and 2x vs the Eagles. How in the world do u see 2 wins with how injury riddled we are especially?

For all the anger about losing, I think people still dont understand how bad this team is.

They've lost both games since getting back Andrew Thomas. There's no bigger addition to the team back from injury. They are still ungodly awful.

There's no 'Press 'x' to win some meaningless games to build a culture'.

I prefer JD to Maye and Caleb, but I agree. If they don't get one of the top 3, I will really take a step back. Ofc I will always be a fan, but I'm not a masochist.

What is the difference if we win 2, 4 or 5 games this year? We've been embarrassed by every good team we've played. Every game that remotely matters. This season is lost.

You don't get it. The idea that players would leave this season proud of themselves is already toast, Tim. Don't mess up future seasons because you think you've done a better job this season if you sneak up on a few bad teams or even a mediocre one.
I’m not a fan of purposely tanking
steve in ky : 11/14/2023 5:29 pm : link
There are countless examples of teams sucking and getting high picks yet keep on sucking.

I watched the Giants suck through the 60’s and 70’s and one thing I’m convinced of, teams can get losing so ingrained into its fabric they forget how to win, and it can go years of repeat cycles. I’m not saying that sometimes with that ultra high pick teams don’t catch lightning in a bottle and turn around the entire organization, we did with LT. I’m just saying that it’s far from any sort of guarantee, and losing badly can be contagious. I prefer winning, and a higher draft position just a consolation prize not a goal.
They just got out gained

I don't think TT should go out there for another game for example. He isn't part of this teams future and he isn't so good that we are doing any of our other players some great favor in terms of development.

The bigger favor to Hyatt would be to get him a real QB and we should be doing everything possible to do that.

Absolutely correct. Anyone that would ask their team and coaches to take is a loser of the worst kind.

Where did trying to win get us? It's 11 years and counting of building nothing

Have we built a culture at least? No. What was the valor in losing the right way? Hell, they actually won last year. How is it helping them get through the tough times now?

People love to lean on tropes but where's the result?

I honestly don’t see how we win any more games. This team is terrible,
has too many injuries, and the players have mostly checked out. If the players packed up their lockers, tore up their remaining game checks and the team forfeited all remaining games, the team would be only slightly less competitive that it is now.
