Would you Trade our #1 and other picks to

Tom from LI : 11/15/2023 4:19 pm
Buffalo for a 27-year-old Josh Allen?

I saw this on a YouTube video and it was interesting to me.

If this was discussed before I will delete.

The relationship between him and Daboll was good for both of them.

Still young enough. We already know what we would have in him.

Need to get him weapons though.

what are "other picks"?

and how do the Giants afford to pay both Jones and Allen?
Yes
mfjmfj : 11/15/2023 4:22 pm : link
depending how much other picks. Not too much, because paying a QB at max contract makes roster construction difficult. But sure this years 1st and a couple of 2nds or something like that, definitely. Who wouldn't?
I would have done it last year.
nygiantfan : 11/15/2023 4:22 pm : link
But not this year since it will likely include overall #1 pick in a QB heavy draft.
I was thinking of starting a thread about this
jinkies : 11/15/2023 4:24 pm : link
you have to consider it.

And it depends if we're first or second.

For now, I'd stand pat and pick the best QB available.
Nope.

Let's do our job and find the guy and control some cost.

We only have to pay Jones for one more year. We have $40MM of space in 2024 and the cap hit for JA is $20MM. The rest of the Allen contract is objectively expensive, but cheap for a guy who, I think, is a top 5 QB. Not sure if Buffalo has a huge cap hit if they trade him, which would change the metrics.

Breeze_94 : 11/15/2023 4:27 pm : link
I’d rather build around Maye/Williams. Trading an opportunity at one of them PLUS picks would be a bad move.

Allen plays more physical than your average QB and has taken a lot of big hits. You certainly have to worry about him breaking down/being less effective. I also don’t think this team is a Josh Allen away. Buffalos roster is much better and they are 5-5.
For the record,

I think there is no chance Buffalo does this. Their opinion of him would have to similar to our opinion of DJ to consider it.

DJ and our first round pick, for Allen. They can re-set with a new guy, while we reunite Dabes and Allen.
Josh Allen is terrific, but he is already being paid.
Section331 : 11/15/2023 4:29 pm : link
One of the benefits of drafting a QB is that you get him for cheap for 4 years, and cheapest for a 5th (assuming he works out). For a team with so many needs, I’m not a fan of giving up picks when you can’t easily replace those picks with FA’s (due to cap restraints).
Yes
TyreeHelmet : 11/15/2023 4:35 pm : link
Depends somewhat on "other picks" but yes I would in a heartbeat.

I'd be shocked if they trade him though.

Then there is ZERO chance Buffalo does it. Why would they want Jones, and even more so, his contract? We would need to send more picks just to include Jones. A 1st and Jones gets Allen? Come on.

Let's get our own franchise QB in the draft who will be cheap for 5 years.

Buffalo would want (justifiably) more than this for Josh.

Want to trade Josh Allen, unless he seriously declined, at which point it would be too late for any other team to want him. They just fired Dorsey, I'm sure he'll be fine with a new offensive coordinator. Lots of Bills fans HATE McDermott too, and if they continue like this i'm sure he'll be gone at the end of the year. They would want to see if Josh gets back on track with a new coach and O coordinator.

Oh and they DEFINITELY don't want DJ lol.
If we ended up picking 5th
ajr2456 : 11/15/2023 5:06 pm : link
Sure. But I’m not giving up multiple picks or a top 3 pick

This. Affects the whole construct of roster and competitive window or landscape that front offices and coaches work through.

And it’s big reason why Jones future here is non existent and no longer aligns.
If the Giants some talent on their offence....
Fishmanjim57 : 11/15/2023 5:50 pm : link
and they only needed a quality QB to lead them, I'd agree with such a deal. The Giants WR core sucks, and they are going to lose Saquon Barkley in the offseason, so they do not have his replacement in the backfield. They also need to FINALLY fix that horrendous OL!
The Giants aren't one player short of being a legit contender, they need at least a half dozen players to correct their woes, and a new OC!
No.
Red Dog : 11/15/2023 7:21 pm : link
I watch him play a lot. He's really really good much of the time. But sometimes just does stupid things. And one of these days he is going to get seriously hurt from doing something stupid.

Also he has THE MOST turnovers of any QB in the league over the past few seasons.

And this whole idea is not realistic either. Buffalo wouldn't part with him unless he was seriously hurt or over the hill.

Maybe if you offered a package that made the trade a new record-setter for the amount of draft capital and other assets given up (like DJ, Dex Lawrence, A. Thomas, and Banks plus THREE or FOUR #1s, at least half-a-dozen other high draft picks, etc.). And even then they might not do it.
Silly responses

because the cost of carrying the Daniel Jones and Josh Allen contracts and the loss of draft picks doesn't seem possible. Also The top two QB's in this draft are considered Andrew Luck quality of prospects.
BBI is great

Allen would cost at least 3 first round pics. And no one wants Daniel Jones, especially with his contract.

The Knicks need to take advantage of having a star QB on a rookie deal. Plus the timeline won't fit. By the time this team completes Allen will be retiring. Lastly this team needs high picks to fix and fill the holes
Yep

We aren’t that close, and he/Buffalo may have hit the wall.
He’s 27.
If they hit on the potential QB drafted,, they can get a JA to hit stride at 24.
There is no plan where you can pay

TWO QBs 40+ million dollars
If Buffalo actually offered this?
FStubbs : 11/16/2023 11:54 am : link
Sure. I'd figure out the cap stuff and who remains on the roster to make things work later. That's a no-brainer. Teams trade multiple #1s for a chance at a Josh Allen.
