Buffalo for a 27-year-old Josh Allen?
I saw this on a YouTube video and it was interesting to me.
If this was discussed before I will delete.
The relationship between him and Daboll was good for both of them.
Still young enough. We already know what we would have in him.
Need to get him weapons though.
And it depends if we're first or second.
For now, I'd stand pat and pick the best QB available.
We only have to pay Jones for one more year. We have $40MM of space in 2024 and the cap hit for JA is $20MM. The rest of the Allen contract is objectively expensive, but cheap for a guy who, I think, is a top 5 QB. Not sure if Buffalo has a huge cap hit if they trade him, which would change the metrics.
Allen plays more physical than your average QB and has taken a lot of big hits. You certainly have to worry about him breaking down/being less effective. I also don’t think this team is a Josh Allen away. Buffalos roster is much better and they are 5-5.
I'd be shocked if they trade him though.
Then there is ZERO chance Buffalo does it. Why would they want Jones, and even more so, his contract? We would need to send more picks just to include Jones. A 1st and Jones gets Allen? Come on.
Buffalo would want (justifiably) more than this for Josh.
Oh and they DEFINITELY don't want DJ lol.
This. Affects the whole construct of roster and competitive window or landscape that front offices and coaches work through.
And it’s big reason why Jones future here is non existent and no longer aligns.
The Giants aren't one player short of being a legit contender, they need at least a half dozen players to correct their woes, and a new OC!
Also he has THE MOST turnovers of any QB in the league over the past few seasons.
And this whole idea is not realistic either. Buffalo wouldn't part with him unless he was seriously hurt or over the hill.
Maybe if you offered a package that made the trade a new record-setter for the amount of draft capital and other assets given up (like DJ, Dex Lawrence, A. Thomas, and Banks plus THREE or FOUR #1s, at least half-a-dozen other high draft picks, etc.). And even then they might not do it.
☝️
He’s 27.
If they hit on the potential QB drafted,, they can get a JA to hit stride at 24.
