The project calls for a 30,000-seat ballpark on the nine-acre Tropicana site, which is located on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip. The stadium would feature a partially retractable roof, with a playing surface that will allow for the outfield to open to the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Boulevard for a view of the Strip.
I know the teams have to do what they have to do but I always try and put myself in the fan's shoes who grew up in that city and loves the Raiders and As. I guess you stick with both but it must really suck seeing your team move approx 1000 miles away.
This isn’t the last hurdle that the team must clear. Teachers in Nevada are opposing the public funding of $380 million for the team’s new stadium and are hoping to require a referendum next November.
The Athletics’ new stadium in Las Vegas won’t be ready to play until 2028. The team’s lease in Oakland runs out at the end of the 2024 season. That leads to the question as to where the team will play in 2025, 2026 and 2027. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported Thursday that the A’s are planning to play in a revolving series of sites including their Triple A team’s park in Summerlin, Nevada, Oracle Park in San Francisco and perhaps the Oakland Coliseum.
Three years of a rotating home field seems like a lot.
is selling about how great the Oakland A's fans are. They had a playoff run not too long ago and were still completely at the bottom of the league in attendance.
Cleveland is another team that punches below it's weight when it comes to attendance. Have to wonder if relocation rumors will start with that team at some point.
Once the Athletics have vacated the Coliseum, they can finally tear it down and build a new stadium there at some point (possibly two stadiums).
A part of me has been jealous that the Vikings were able to build a new stadium on the same footprint, because they managed to play outdoors in the Minnesota college stadium for two seasons. That's a big sacrifice for most teams in a position to not be able to construct a new stadium nearby, but over the context of 30+ years for a new stadium isn't so bad.
The As and Raiders feel like Oakland teams, perhaps more than the Rams (and certainly Chargers) feel like LA teams.
I envision them ultimately moving back, but unfortunately it always required them to leave before getting the new stadium. Oakland and SF are so tight on land for building stadiums.
RE: oakland fans really getting the shaft lately (forever)

It's 500 miles. A lot of Raiders fans around here actually make the weekend trips to Vegas to still support. I imagine it's different for A's fans though. The Vegas Aviators do pretty well attendance wise, so I think the A's have a good chance of picking up a new local fan base.
I disagree. Yankee Stadium lost a lot with the smaller capacity. Yes, some of it was a difference in design, with the fans being further away from the field, but the old place just got so much louder with 57K fans.
half the league sits at 30k or less per game so it makes sense to go smaller. I also happen to like the feel of smaller venues for baseball, basketball and concerts. Football and Soccer makes sense to have a larger capacity (less games, large field of action).

Nobody is going to give a shit about the A’s in Vegas. Oakland deserved a new stadium and keeping that fan base, which has proven they will show up if given something to hope for. Fuck John Fisher
have Vegas touches. Games at triple A are terrific. The Stadium is two years old, A hug Pool in the back, fabulous upscale food at reasonable prices, a bat dog instead of bat boy that's a big hit, dancing girls on dugouts between innings, half the time you don't even have to watch the game to have a great time.
Too bad it seems like you're gonna have to walk through the shitty
I shit you not there were like 100 fans in the stands. The diehards told me they were protesting the owner thats why it was empty. Pretty sad to see. The coliseum was an ancient dump though, reminded me of Shea.

I went to the Mets Triple A game in Vegas in May 2017. It was a night game and we froze our asses off, even with sweatshirts. I assume the Triple A park was a different stadium back then. I have pictures of Nimmo, Dom Smith and whoever was their big prospect at shortstop at that time that was traded for Lindor.

And probably cheaply made over Tropicana hotel to get to the game. They should just demolish all of it and start over from scratch.
That is exactly what is planned. Demolish & build new Trop and new stadium.
Last I saw they were only demolishing 3/4 of the land and putting the stadium on the SE corner. The NW corner by Tropicana and LV Blvd with the original tower and casino would remain. Have they reconsidered?
I would have liked them to stay in the Bay Area, but staying in Oakland is untenable. The Oakland Colosseum is a horrible venue for baseball which was made worse after the Raider's temporary return. The A's actually made some proposals to stay in the Bay Area , even Oakland but received no cooperation. Unfortunately I think they are going to have all sorts of problems with Vegas. The logistics of a stadium at Tropicana and the Strip don't look good. Even if they work that out I suspect that once the novelty wears off they're not going to draw dick unless the Yankees, Mets or Red Sox are in town.
Give me Shea any day. The noise level of the fans in the '86 World Series was incredible. You're not going to get that intensity with 35-40,000 fans.
They aren’t getting 10,000 fans so why would you build a 50k stadium?
The noise level is cool but usually baseball stadiums don’t get that loud until playoff time. Even Yankee games in the old stadium weren’t that loud during the season unless it was against Boston.

apparently not....which is insane to me.

building a domed stadium?

WTF?
Can't afford it?
Trend is smaller parks. Wrigley and Fenway do well sub 40K. Citi Field is about 42K and Yankees Stadium 47k.....

And it was 62/63k before the remodel in 74/75....
Start Time: 2:08 p.m. Local
Attendance: 65,880
Venue: Yankee Stadium I
Game Duration: 2:53
Day Game, on grass
In a year in which Yanks drew 1.1M total.
The lure of the freebie. "Roy White" bat lasted a long time.
Yeah I wasn't sure. Don't know of any other MLB teams that also have a AAA team in the same city though.

That does not seem like a franchise anyone likes outside of Long Island And Queens.
