The New York Giants are 2-8 this season and the immediate future looks bleak. They are performing at historically bad levels.
The losing — and the embarrassing manner in which the team has been losing — has given the building a funeral home vibe. The Giants are dead in the water and have no means to return to shore.
Daboll said he has spoken to team co-owner John Mara, general manager Joe Schoen, and the players about the team’s performance. “Nobody’s happy.”
Daboll doesn’t have a tanking mindset and neither do the players. Even if they did, Mara and fellow co-owner Steve Tisch would have none of it. There are teams out there who will openly tank but the Giants are not one of them.

Should leave some ambiguity, so that when you score 10 points a game and lose by 20-25, at least fans can wonder if you are really trying your hardest.
A promising rookie QB can cure several concerns though.
What game is this from?
Exactly, Jon. There are five more months of this. As you always say, follow the actions.
Maybe next we can have a thread about whether or not the Giants would like to win another SuperBowl in the future?
This. Open and shut case lol. Wild an "article" was constructed based off that line.
Correct. And there will be 200 anxious posts here by the end of the day...
PLUS- the league would crack down HARD on any team that outright said yeah, we are basically folding up the tents and hoping to get thee #1 pick in the draft.
The answer IMO is definitely yes.
You'll get your answer when Taylor is ready to go again. He'll be the starting QB when he's ready.
Not that will make a difference - but the Giants will play to win.
Second, these guys are highly competitive. They would not be where they are if they weren't.
Third, players not playing at full speed against guys who are put themselves at risk of injury.
Now, human nature may result in players making 'business decisions' on certain plays to avoid risk. But that's different than tanking. I have never met a single pro athlete who doesn't try to win every time they put on their uniform.

Yep, the only people who worry about draft position are fans .....until maybe you get down to the last game of the season for positioning.
Daboll and company will sleep much better with a few wins on their resume, esp the guys who won't be here next year.
Kafka and Wink : fine . But I would clean out EVERYBODY associated with the offensive line , including both coaches and every lineman on the roster except for Thomas and Schmidt . Possibly retain Pugh as a 4 position plug in if he has tempered salary expectations. They are going franchise QB-give the guy a fighting chance .
They are actively trying to lose.
He got fired.
Teams do it - they just tell the public what they want to hear.

And if a team was stupid enough to say tanking was tbe goal, the Commissioner would probably levy a substantial fine and dock draft picks per his discretion.

The alternative is Matt Barkley, who hasn't taken an NFL snap since 2020.
We're phrasing it like it's a choice.
