Saquon's Use The Rest of the Season - Contract Incentives?

patiohimself : 11/16/2023 1:45 pm
I was thinking about this earlier today. Does anyone know what Saquon's contract looks like in regards to incentive-based bonuses? With Devito at QB, our plan would obviously be to run the ball more, but that's a double-edged sword for Saquon.

More runs, obviously, leads to more wear and tear and the possibility of an injury (especially at MetLife), and that's something we definitely can't afford. However, if Saquon has a rushing yards incentive, or TD incentive, or whatever it may be, do you think coaches would keep him out there to try to do him a "favor" to reach his incentives since he is the only one who actually plays on this team?

There has been too many times that Saquon has been running the ball in a blowout game where he shouldn't be on the field, and after a few more losses, I could see keeping him off the field all together to preserve him for next season. Just wondering others thoughts.

Go Blue.
I think the incentives required making the playoffs

So, that's out.
per Tiki Barber yesterday on WFAN

Barkley had 3 separate incentives on his deal tied to his personal rushing yards, total TDs, and receptions this season...

But all 3 of them were parlayed with a Giants playoff appearance.

So his incentives are all dead. He has no direct financial interest in playing (other than any knock-ons to his free agency market value).

Wow, crazy for him/his agent to parlay those to tie in with the playoffs.

That said, what's your outlook for his usage for the rest of this season? He's a competitor so obviously he's going to want to play every snap, but as a GM/Coach and as a business decision, do they dial back his snaps to keep him healthy?
Use him up, let him have a great year

then let some other team get saddled with a 4 year 50 million dollar deal.

I think there's a decent chance he comes back. Nobody's giving him that.
Even he

He is Going to be a PITA in the Off-season

He is going to follow the Jonathan Taylor playbook and not report. He won’t come in with anything less than Taylor’s deal, which I believe is more than the NYG offered him last year.

Here’s a thought, let him leave. Which is also why trading him 3 weeks ago was the preferable option, but he’s the “face of the franchise” so we couldn’t do that.
