I’m quite certain he factored in Seattles remaining schedule before making the trade.
He may have, but a 2nd round pick is a 2nd round pick whether it is 48 or 60...Nobody else offered more(SF a 3rd?) that would be in the 90s..so likely 25 to 30 picks sooner at worst.
was an excellent return on its own. That's a key pick, whether they need as tradeup ammo, or use it outright to net a quality starter. Teams are not quick to part with #2 picks for a few solid reasons. That pick alone makes the trade a smart decision.
Their final three games are Titans, Steelers and Cardinals.
I would expect them to win at least two of those.
I wouldn't hold your breath for a high pick, much more likely to be ranked around #20 than #10 in the second round
Would love Trey Benson in the 3rd round if available
Would like a OG and edge player with our 2nd round picks.
Especially high on Fautanu from Washington in the second round as our OG even though he is playing LT at Washington with our first second round pick

It doesn't matter. They got a #2 this year and a #5 next year for a player they were not going to resign in the off season.
Likely pick is in the 50's. Much better than in the high 80s or more likely 90s with SF.
Which is handicapping Dex and Thibs. I would be fine with the front 7 really being emphasized in this draft. It’s more of a gap to me than the receiver group.

A DT is definitely on the table and it is a position they have done well drafting in the 2nd. Yes, many new faces on the scouting side. They may even find one early in the 3rd round.

that there will be a number of Giants fans (on BBI and elsewhere) that will be rooting for Seattle in their games against the Cowboys and the Eagles... even though it's not in the Giants best interest.
2 loses there.
Even if just a split with SF and a lose to either the Boys or Eagles.
Any lose that brings them close to the #33 will help get better pickings, or enhance it as a trade chip.
A rare moment: rooting FOR Dallas and Philly.
He won't be until after the 2024 season. Slight chance during next year's trade deadline for a tam that's desperate, like the Vikings were this year, but even that'll be compromised because DJ will just probably be coming off of the Injured List. DJ needs a lot of time to get healthy again and recoup some value. His contract is a problem through next season as well.
It makes the most sense to trade DJ at the start of the 2025 offseason or at or around the 2025 Draft. He'll be healthy by then and his contract will be manageable enough to deal or work around. This is all assuming of course that the Giants finish in the Top 2 of the 2024 Draft this season and wind up taking one of the QBs: Williams or Maye (Hopefully Maye, but Jayden Daniels is also very intriguing). It's gonna be a very interesting next 7 & a half weeks.
what you wish for, every Seahawk loss outside their division (except to the 49ers) weakens the Cardinals' strength of schedule twice as much as it does the Giants'; while each win by the Eagles and Cowboys strengthens the Giants' SOS twice as much as it does the Cardinals'.
So would you rather pick second over the Cardinals in the first round and maybe 5 sports lower in the second if they have the same record as the Cardinals, or pick third in the first and five spots earlier in the second?

What Giants fans should want is losses to the 49ers and wins against the Cowboys and Eagles. That helps the Giants against the Cards in SOS.

Sure, but if you are looking for the most likely outcome, hoping a 2-win team will win 2 or 3 more is not the best strategy.
And the Pats played the Cowboys and Eagles so every loss by those teams helps the Giants in SOS against the Pats. And the Panthers played the Cowboys, so every Cowboys loss helps against the Panthers in SOS.

Let's make this easy - I hope the Cardinals beat the Seahawks week 18....

GREAT POST. Those tiebreakers for the top pick or two will likely come in handy and should guide our rooting interests more than simply rooting for the Seahawks to lose.

The Cards with Kyler back are going to be a whole other
that there will be a number of Giants fans (on BBI and elsewhere) that will be rooting for Seattle in their games against the Cowboys and the Eagles... even though it's not in the Giants best interest.
Eagles? Count me in. Big time.
I'm not worried about a few draft slots in the second round over a very hated rival.

I watched the condensed version (all the plays) of the Cards game on NFL+ Premium last week when Murray came back. He looked good. I'm very confident AZ will win more games than the Giants the rest of the way and tiebreakers (with AZ) won't come into play.
Also, don't Cowboy and Eagle wins over the Seahawks improve the Giants SOS, and help in any AZ tiebreaker as well?

In that case you would likely be rooting against the Giants' best interests.
Do I take it that you're also rooting for the Giants to win some meaningless games the rest of this season... even if it means "a few draft slots" in RD-1?

Yes, you're right I would be rooting against the Giants best interest if Seattle plays the Eagles.
I wouldn't say I am rooting for the Giants at this point, my interest level has gone out the door. But, if they were to win a few games I'm not going to blow a gasket. I know the Giants staff is actually trying to win - so I accept that.
I'm pleased we got an extra second round pick - I'm going to micro manage the slot. The higher the better of course - but seeing the Eagles eliminated pre-Super Bowl would trump that.

Absolutely. We want to see Bears win a game or two more AND for Fields to look really good..
The shopping list is long. DE/ER, WR, CB, DT(they have done well with 2nd round DTs), OG or OT....
Ugh, Need more 2nd round picks....
Maye/Williams plus another Olineman and an Edge would be great.
Same as cutting him, we'd have to eat a ton of dead cap to trade him unless he agrees to a restructure. If we trade him it will be after 2024.

Post June 1st trade saves $36 mill if I read OTC correctly. But there will be no trade until he is off IL...

The top of the draft is the top of the draft.. We will be in the top 3 for sure and more likely 1 or 2.
The second round does matter and it would be nice if that pick was 5-8 picks sooner than it currently sits at.
