management have not prepared for this. My god, they should have had an all pro waiting to step in.
Does that sound familiar to some of you? This ain't the 1980s and '90s. There are no Jeff Hostettler's ready to step in. The reality in the NFL with the salary cap is if you have a highly paid QB and he gets hurt, you're season is over in most cases.

Browning didn't play that bad. The Bengals defense was crap last night.

While I agree with that statement overall, this injury has nothing to do with being on Thursday night. He had the issue prior to the game. He just couldn't grip/throw the ball properly.

But maybe a few extra day's rest may have prevented a re-aggrevation.

We'll never know
You can say that about any game. He wasn't on the injury report leading up to the game. Nobody knows how or when it was injured. We just know it was injured prior to the game and he tried playing through it.
I know it is "old school" but if DJ is heathy in the spring, why not use the NYG 1st pick for another position (trading down if possible) and then using the next pick to select a QB lower than the top 3 to groom for a year behind Jones?

If you are trying to compare this to the Giants situation, try again. Browning won the back-up job in training camp. He's been the back-up the entire year.
Now if the Bengals have a UDFA behind Browning hoping he'd never see the field this year, then you can commence your comparison. Until then, the situations aren't comparable.
And it's not like Tyrod's injury proneness wasn't a known entity to the Giants; it's been well documented.
Another team that I thought could dethrone the Eagles
are done. The Eagles have the best injury luck in the world. I don't want anyone to get injured, but they never lose their big players like Hurts or Brown.

It's not like elite QB picks are a sure thing.
Nothing is a sure thing. But if the Giants have a shot at a truly elite qb they must must must take it.
could be the accumulation of the past two seasons plus playoffs. It happens. They need to infuse the roster with some new draft talent and figure out how to improve the offense. Looking a bit flat out there and reliant on Chase.
So that’s two seasons that he’ll have missed significant time due to injury. Is it too soon to question if his injury risk is worth the cost of his massive contract?

The Bengals looked fantastic the 4 weeks prior to the Texans loss with statement wins over SF and BUFF. Burrow just got hurt. That's their problem. If he was healthy they'd be among the favorites to win the Super Bowl. Without him, they have no shot.
Burrow is fun to watch. Seeing him and Andrews go down yesterday was a big buzzkill during a game that even my wife had been looking forward to all week.
So that’s two seasons that he’ll have missed significant time due to injury. Is it too soon to question if his injury risk is worth the cost of his massive contract?

They're on the map because of Joe Burrow.
That doesn’t change the fact that he’s injury prone. $40-50M for a half a season is a tough value prop. There’s no doubt QBs matter but they get hurt just like every other position. Jones, Rodgers, Watson, and now Burrow making a boatload of cash eating up cap space all spending the rest of the season out of action.

Who knows? Maybe the league will make QBs a non-contact position.

It sure feels like they do all they can to make that a reality lol

Exactly. No brainer decision, but unfortunately we've got some people in BBI sans brains.

Jeff Hostetler wasn't Jeff Hostetler before 1990. He wasn't thought of very much. Hell, he was playing on the punt team for crying out loud.
He’s just too injury prone . Seriously awful blow to the league’s overall watchability , which at least for me, has decreased markedly over the last decade . And it’s just not that the Giants stink , either .

Not really. Frank Reich and Jeff Hostetler were highly regarded backup QBs.
a few weeks ago, There should be a separate cap structure for QBs since its the most important position in the NFL. However the consensus was if there were quality QBs waiting in the wings they would already be starters on NFL rosters. The days of Steve Young coming off the bench to replace Joe Montana are over.

Bubba. I started a thread like this two years ago
I think they absolutely need to implement a QB salary cap.
why wasn't he on injury report? Does he have chronic condition? A lot of questions around Burrow and Bengals. He's a great kid, love watching him play but he pushed himself through calf injury, reinjured it, and now questions about maybe a similar situation.
Browns and Bengals both lose their QB and the Steelers putter their way to a playoff berth..

And it keeps the Jets hopes for 7 seed well alive even if they lose Sunday.

Well, there's a Brock Purdy.
Schoen gave an old, fragile, injury-prone guy $11M for two years, in both of which he got hurt from contact, defeating the purpose of having a backup.
The difference.

That just happened.
It's a little soon to say perennial injuries have dogged his success, and he isn't worth the money.
League doesn’t care as long as there’s money to be made.
