Jayden Daniels

NJBlueTuna : 11/18/2023 9:52 pm
Yes it’s against a weak team today but this guy has a legit chance to go #1 in the draft.
He’s having a hell of a year
dancing blue bear : 11/18/2023 10:03 pm : link
And is fun to watch. I don’t think that’s a crazy thought
Yes he is a 5 year starter
Mike in NY : 11/18/2023 10:08 pm : link
But outside of one season he really didn’t turn the ball over a lot. There definitely is a lot to merit a deeper dive.
I’m in full bloom love.

He resembles Lamar as a player, but
jinkies : 11/18/2023 10:15 pm : link
Lamar has more twitch as a runner and in the pocket. Daniels is shifty like Lamar but more of a long strider.

Really good long ball, leads the receiver well. Very solid arm strength.

Not sure how he will fare throwing with anticipation into windows in the NFL or how he will adjust to defensive shifts.
I dont think he will go #1

His release time is off the charts. Scouts and analysts have been commenting on his release for a few months now.
IMO - and its only my opinion
PatersonPlank : 11/18/2023 10:27 pm : link
I don't think you can read anything into LSU beating down Ga St. Better OL, better WR, better everything. Its really meaningless from an eval stand point.
Combine
NJBlueTuna : 11/18/2023 10:29 pm : link
We know he has a big arm

We know he’s fast

His release time will stand out.

He will gain weight before the combine.

He’s in the mix for #1

Did he light up FSU? I know the stats were ok at the end but didn’t he have a few INTs thst were dropped? I honestly don’t remember since it was week 1.

And floridas defense is terrible man.. lol

Florida is pretty bad lol. But it’s still a major SEC program and he donned a cape for that game with 600 yds passing and rushing and 5 tds.
Oh I agree

Of course. But go look at last week's game against a good Florida defense. Better than anything we've seen from Williams or Maye this year. Or what he did against Bama before getting hurt. Or Missouri. He's doing it week in and week out in the SEC.

His accuracy and arm strength are second to none. If he weighed 10 or 15 pounds more he would be QB 1 right now. There is nothing else to question in his game. He is more dynamic and athletic that Williams and Maye.

Florida's defense isn't terrible. Take out the 700 yards Daniels dropped on them and they are 6th in the SEC. And just 10 yards per game away from being fourth. They're not great but calling them terrible is over the top, especially when you compare them to some of the defenses Williams has played.

Not bad, but prefer a more sure thing. Marvin Harrison Jr, then move up and get a QB.
The GREAT News is
AlwaysASpiral : 11/19/2023 3:40 am : link
we can get our Franchise QB if we finish top 3 or maybe 4. If we don't get a QB in the top 4, then we get a Hall of Fame receiver and can grab a QB in the late first / early 2nd.

Now we have 3 clear QB's who can debatably be franchise QB's. We have a chance.
OH
AlwaysASpiral : 11/19/2023 3:40 am : link
and there is Sanders at QB too. If we get the WR in the top 4 we can always try to move up for Sanders in the 1st.

4 QBs today I have them ranked as follows.
1) Caleb Williams
2) Jayden Daniels
3) Drake Maye
4) Michael Penix jr

Drake Maye would’ve had a more impressive showing today if his RB would not have kept fumbling. He made a throw on 4th Down that was I think the most impressive throw from any QB today. Still I would definitely hope Giants take Williams or Daniels before Maye if the opportunity presents itself.
First time I got to see
section125 : 11/19/2023 6:18 am : link
Daniels was last night for less than a quarter, so take these with a grain of salt:

1.) extremely thin(so is Maye) with a slight frame
2.) appears to keep head on a swivel looking over the field(nice!)
3.) made a couple nice throws over one defender but under the next(well done)
4.) arm was accurate, but did not appear as strong as some suggest - but passes may have been feathered vs rifled as was needed
5.) moves well, but will need to be careful at next level

Aside from build I did not see anything that seemed a flag. Admittedly I only saw him late in a blow out for about three or four drives so couldn't really judge strength of his arm. But could see him going thru reads quickly.

Will need to watch him in upcoming games and maybe in bowl if he decides to play.

I’m not sure if Nix or Penix Jr should be #4. I agree with your ranking of the top 3, though I’d say there is a big gap between the top 3 and the next tier.

McCarthy really hurt his draft stock today. I was at the game, he did not look good at all. And I say that as a Michigan fan.

It’s too bad the LSU game is at the same time as The Game next week. I’ll need to tape the LSU game, I’ve seen highlights of Daniels but not a complete game of his. I did watch Florida State/LSU but didn’t pay close attention to Daniels.

Section - I agree with these comments. I have two other question marks:

- Daniels seemed late seeing open receivers several times.
- Daniels response to pressure is to tuck in the ball and run. That of course won’t work at the NFL level and speaks to the difficulty of scouting players in offenses like this. I’m struggling to find any examples of him buying time in the pocket to complete a pass.

Not to be wholly negative, I was wowed by his accuracy. When he identifies an open receiver, the placement is often great.

Talent is undeniable but as a high pick there are risks with Daniels.

He bails out quickly and can cover ground.

He’s moved way up the draft boards in the last month.
I wouldn’t hesitate to take him number 1 overall.
Nix has to be flying up draft boards as well.
For me the top 5 as of now are:
1. Daniels
2. Williams
3. Maye
4. Penix
5. Nix
As an ASU alum
Maggot Brain : 11/19/2023 9:09 am : link
who watched Daniels torch Pac-12 opponents as a freshman, this kid is the real deal. ASU has been absolute trash since he transferred. Hope the Giants are smart enough and lucky enough to draft Daniels.
With the level of QB injuries in the NFL
Stratman : 11/19/2023 9:16 am : link
I'm more inclined to go with a QB with a sturdier frame. Maye is the only one who really excels at that metric. This isn't a comment on relative talent. But, boy, is this year brutal for QB injuries.

Watch the Florida game next.

Daniels has a super quick release because he has a very economical stroke.

His running is high level because of his first two steps, which allows him to hit his top gear quickly.

Okie dokie....that frame just worries me, but Young and Stroud aren't exactly stout.

bw, all I want to see is someone that can read quickly, make the decision and let it fly somewhat accurately.

Yes watched UF highlights, ok, I see it. Not quite Williams flick of the wrist power, but very special. Accurate deep and can zip it when he needs to do so.
I realize that was highlights and there were probably bad plays, but as I said, all I want from the next QB is reads quickly, pulls the trigger and delivers it accurately.

Quicker than Jones, more elusive and probably faster. Although I would prefer to see it rarely if in Blue.

Now need to see Drake Maye highlights.

against Bama though this is not a top D from that program.

One concern I have is his ability to last if he is being relied upon as a big part of the rush production in the NFCE. He certainly has some impressive run skills that I think will translate though the team and he will have to be smart.

Evaluation should be on his projection from playing from the pocket imv if you are considering him as a top pick.

I don't think any QB should be relied upon for their rushing skill. The occasional RPO to keep the defense honest, yes. As a regular diet, no.
I will be surprised

Schoen will be close enough to get one of these (either straight up or with some draft capital).
