Interesting article on Sam Howell

gmanfromgland : 11/19/2023 1:34 am
Redskin community-management, players, media and fans- think they have their QB for the next 10 years. Guy was drafted in round 5, pick #144, and leads the league in yards. When you can get a guy this good with that pic you’ll be able to build around him and put together a team that will a pain in the ass for years.
Sam Howell - ( New Window )
meanwhile, we're starting "My Cousin Vinny"

I'm actually happy for Washington. They are going to spank us for once- it's going to be really therapeutic for their fanbase.
he's a tough ass dude with some interesting traits
jinkies : 11/19/2023 2:09 am : link
but he is far from solidified as a 10 year starter. He has some growing to do at the position.
Ahahahahahahaha

Jameis Winston once led the league in yards

I believe.

He was replaced the next year.

YA/A is 6.8

For a guy with the most pass attempts, it's awfully low. Plus be has a great supporting cast.

Hopefully they think he is. And then hopefully they pay him a lot of money.
There is something to

him and he is playing better than I thought. Buttttt, next ten years? IDK about that.

He nearly beat the Eagles and has led the team to numerous 4th quarter comebacks. He’s essentially a rookie. If the person we draft next year has a season as good as his, we’d be ecstatic.
Here, I fixed it for you...

I would absolutely not be ecstatic if we drafted someone who played like Sam fucking Howell
Howell looked like a top 10 pick after his sophomore year.
cosmicj : 11/19/2023 9:02 am : link
I think perceptions of his future are really affected by how his junior year was disappointing.

The Commanders beat them last year with bums at QB.
Howell
mdthedream : 11/19/2023 9:37 am : link
is legit just look at his numbers alone and he passes the eye test for sure.
He takes too long to read the field and holds the ball too long...
sb from NYT Forum : 11/19/2023 9:57 am : link
...Sound familiar?
Howell shows some promise,
Section331 : 11/19/2023 9:59 am : link
but I’d pump the brakes in him being some kind of savior in DC. He holds the ball too long, let’s see if he can speed up his internal clock without turning the ball over.
LOL

I guess the commanders will suck for the next 10 years...

A great supporting cast? Come on, the Commanders stink. That they’re better than the Giants doesn’t change that. McLaurin is very good, other than that, who do they have? Howell is in his 2nd year, and already has more TD passes than Jones has had since his rookie year.
Howell
AcidTest : 11/19/2023 11:29 am : link
is underrated. He was a fifth round pick. I thought he'd be taken in the third round. He's only about 6'1" IIRC, and doesn't have elite arm strength. But he can still make most throws. He also sees the field well, is accurate, is mobile with good pocket presence, and is tough. The mistakes he's making are typical of first or second year QBs, namely holding the ball too long and throwing stupid picks as he did against NE because he was playing "hero ball."

The question of course is whether you can win a SB with Howell. I still have my doubts, but given his improvement this year, I wouldn't say it's impossible.

The "plus" version of Howell in the draft is Spencer Rattler.
Hes showing both why he was considered a rd 1 prospect at one point
Blame It On Rio : 11/19/2023 12:10 pm : link
AND why he tumbled in the draft. Really needs to show a lot of growth from a recognition and anticipation standpoint, but that is damn hard to do when the OL stinks. They'll have no clue until next year.

UNC under Mack Brown is where young QBs go to regress. Trubisky, Howell and Maye have all gone sideways in that program.

based on a few games. He is absolutely awful today.
DeVito looks like the better prospect today.

He’s playing very well, Howell? Not so much.

This held up well. It reminds me-on a much smaller level-of something I read once where a reporter got a hold of JFK’s speech he was set to deliver in Austin, TX the night of 11/22/63 and-trying to get a jump on a coworker-wrote a story on it.
I remember a similarly interesting article in the Fort Laramie Tribune

Let's just say that this wasn't his best game and leave it at that.

Ok … I’ll amend the comment. UNC is where young, promising QBs go to regress. Better ? And yes, I am a biased NC State FB / Duke BB fan and I don’t like anything in Chapel Hill. 😎

PaulN : 11/19/2023 6:58 pm : link
Did not look like the better QB on the field today, and DeVito is only in his 3rd start and 4th game, vs a guys second year. I would not count on Howell developing into a good QB. I am not saying no chance, but anyone that thinks he is a sure thing is out of their minds.
