Top QB Prospects – Condensed Game Highlights from Yesterday

Jim in Tampa : 11/19/2023 4:30 am
Last week I posted the condensed game video highlights for the top college QB draft prospects and they were well received. Since I’m once more spending my early Sunday morning watching these videos, I thought I’d share the links from yesterday’s games again this week.

First up is Caleb Williams… UCLA vs. USC in what was likely Caleb’s final game before being selected #1 overall by the Giants ;>)

Williams - ( New Window )

You and I are going to disagree on that.

Maybe nothing. Might be something.

Dismissing a QB is wrongheaded.

I would only worry about it if it indicated that the player was not mentally tough. I see nothing from Williams to suggest that. I remember Michael Irvin bawling on the sidelines after a loss. You want players who - it kills them to lose.

One thing to consider. Do the Giants favor Williams or Maye significantly? Or do they view them as interchangeable albeit with different skill sets? If the former is true - what if the Bears take the Giants' guy? Do they trade back and get more picks?

That's fine. We can certainly agree to disagree. However, unless I misread your answer to a previous post, it does appear that you would rather Caleb, "punch walls and throw equipment and blame his teammates" than jump into the stands and get emotional with his Mom.

If that's true it's kind of odd. But I'm also guessing if Caleb did any of those things instead of "crying" you'd be pointing to that as a sign of his immaturity instead.

Unless the Giants get the first pick, it will likely be a moot point anyway.
we've had some picks with maturity issues

Baker, Toney - I have a hard time placing Williams in the same basket. And neither had anything close to his production in college
I see Bo Nix

As a reliable pocket passer with exceptional pocket awareness and passing accuracy. I’m sure it’s not a popular choice but I would have no problem taking him with our early 1st round pick.

Williams is clearly the most gifted player in the draft outside of Harrison, Jr.

Plenty of athletes have “rare ability.” Can’t just take a guy based on play alone.
Confirmation Bias
Jim in Tampa : 11/19/2023 12:32 pm : link
I wonder how much confirmation bias plays a role with all BBI’ers who have come out and stated which QBs they like and “dislike”.

It seems that we all pick our favorite QB prospect and search for reasons to build him up, while ignoring what may be legitimate causes for concerns.

Then we do the exact opposite for the QB prospects we don’t like.
Was team Maye

Because of his size, But Caleb won me over. He was still able to put up close to 400 yards with constant pressure. His running backs produced only 20 yards. He arm talent is something else. I see the comparisons to Mahomes. Please end up on the Giants!
williams...

lack of leadership is extremely evident and people chose to ignore it. He may have the talent of Mahomes, but the amount of times he is caught on the sideline sulking is alarming.
1. Williams

2b. Maye

Watching these highlights last two weeks

Guys that were supposed to be best prospects in a decade are underwhelming, despite flashes.

Yep ☝️
Funny to me

People still dismiss the idea of maturity concerns being legit when we’ve seen it ruin some of our high draft picks.

None of us know Caleb Williams but I certainly have some questions based on some of the things I’ve read.

Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix and Penix continue to impress, particularly the first two. Taking BPA and then trading back into the 1st for someone like Nix intrigues me.

You can teach ball security.
You can teach it, but can he learn it? He's been coached on media and public relations since his high school days and he sucks at it.
In fairness to him...

I see at the end that he shook hands with the opposing team's players despite the loss. I don't know if it was the coaching staff or his brand management team that got in his ear, but either way, it shows improvement.
