there has been alot of discussion here about JJ.
I have been saying for a while now that I do not think he is NFL caliber, and is at best 3rd or 4th round talent.
Yesterday he was god awful against a 6-4 maryland team.
12-23 141 yds O TD/ 1 Int
I am not a scout, but he never struck me as NFL caliber, and now that he doesn't know the other teams D calls-he is being exposed.
Perhaps he plays great next week vs Ohio St and the rest of the season, and my mind can be changed, but I would not want the Giants wasting any pick on him before the 4th round...
What sayest thou?
Judging players off a few plays or a single game makes no sense.
McCarthy is a much much much better project than Jones. I don’t know if that means he’s round 1. But he has much better characteristics.
Which I am-BTW
He certainly shouldn't be in any consideration as a lottery pick or even first round at all at this point.
Good, solid college QB with some nice tools. Special? I just don't see it yet...
No he’s not.
They’re equal as prospects. Neither is/was worthy of a top 20 pick
We're trying to phase out the Dave Gettleman era scouts. If I team was running the power-I, I could see McCarthy being something, but in today's NFL game I don't know if he could complete 10 passes of greater than 15 yards in any NFL game.

By who, the guys who are still mocking Daniels in round four? He's no better than the 7th QB. I'll wager there are not 7 QBs in the top 20 picks. My guess is late second, earlier third.
20 is the highest I’ve seen him rated. Mostly I’m seeing late first to mid second.
It does feel like since Harbaugh has been gone their offense has been very conservative.
Good point about Ward.
Seems back on track after a bumpy few weeks. I'm still a fan.
For the record, to date McCarthy has 45 TDs and 11 INTs, 5,570 YDs, completing 417 of 618 for 67.4%. BtW, this season he is completing nearly 74% with a QB Rating of 178.3.
Now, compare that to Tom Brady. Yeah, I said 6th Round pick Brady. He completed 395 of 638 pass attempts (61.9%) for 4,443 YDS. Brady got 30 TDs and 17 INTs. I bring this up because (1) I do not believe that McCarthy is going to last until the 6th Round of the Draft; and (2) McCarthy’s performance is for similar pass attempts is much better than Brady’s, (3) Michigan is a run-first oriented football program, and (4) with Harbaugh not on the field; I suspect that the team is even more “run oriented”. The pass attempts for Maryland and PSU seem to back the last point up (heck the last 5 games back up my assertion regarding this). Frankly, I am concerned that they will remain run oriented against Ohio State. IMHO, that would not bode well for Michigan.
In conclusion, I believe McCarthy is a bona fides NFL QB prospect. Should the Giants not draft a QB in the top 10 position, I would prefer that they draft him in the second round. If they believe he will fall even further, that would be OK with me.

Prior to the injury over McCarthy.

Playing Colorado and California are always confidence boosters haha
I have a feeling JJ and Ewers will play their senior years in college, but I absolutely see that IT factor in McCarthy. He took such a big leap from his first year starting to his second.
Of course you would put his last 2 weeks on the sign stealing incident, and not on injuries, and injuries to his offensive tackles.

Yes, lots of opportunities in the Pac 2 for a QB to get back on track.
Or have a big game against OSU and play well in the other title games and boost his value.
Will be interesting to watch. My big concern for him is he plays and looks like he has a lot of Zach Wilson in him.
I don't see how, and I didn't see his game yesterday either.
He just has more of a developmental side to his game, a bit raw at the next level I would say.
I know Wilson is rising but his skill guys compared to the other top QBs as far as WRs are below par and he plays in by far the most conservative offense too.
Lot of question marks for sure. Tough to say if they’ll get answered this year.

McCarthy does not impress me at all. He plays on a very talented team and manages it. He often has all day to throw and still makes a bad decision. He's had a lot of plays this year where his WR's and TE's bailed him out on bad throws. If he can't put up great numbers on this team, he does not belong in the first round of the draft.

He doesn't have a Marvin Harrison Jr., but still good WR's and every time they play a decent team, their passing game struggles. It struggles even when he has plenty of time to throw.
But the OP here has such a psychotic Michigan hatred he probably thinks U of M sank the Lusitania and killed the aliens at Roswell. Was he another handle before? I remember a previous poster who was also a big Wisconsin fan and hated Michigan.
Me too.
I was at the game and Talia outplayed him. McCarthy made bad decisions and poor throws. And he had decent time to throw. If McCarthy plays well Michigan would have won comfortably.
I’m hopeful he plays better next week.

100% agree.
Which tells how stupid people get when it comes to evaluating QBs. So was Mitch Trubisky. Same Darnold. Josh Rosen. The amount of QBs who ever become great is minescule. I've for years hated the WR early crowd. The Giants most likely do get top 2 pick anymore. But this year some teams going to reach for some consensus top QB who os going to suck ass while MH Jr tears it up year after year

SY is very high on both those guys...

It was Jon in NYC. Who I originally thought this was. However, Jon was an intelligent poster outside of his Michigan hatred.
