Kayvon Thibodeaux discussion

First player under Wink who recorded double digit sacks in a season as an edge rusher.

Played a really good game today.

not an All Pro but a potential Pro Bowl player. He's not a finished product yet I think he's going to get better
It was really nice

Watching him finally have the chance to rush the passer under favorable conditions.
He's playing

really well and in Wink's defense the edge isn't emphasized which tells you just how well he's playing.
he will get better as he learned to play like an NFL player

more moves, more technique. this is just the beginning.

I agree, there's a bit more to come imho. Unlike Neal, Thibs is turning out to be the real deal. He just needed to adapt to the level of the pro game.
He is good and getting better.
BigBlueNH : 11/19/2023 4:50 pm : link
If we could get another edge player opposite him, I think our D could be much better. We lack good players up front on D, outside Dex and KT.

He was trying to break up the pass, what exactly would you like him to do?

I'd like him to not hit the QB in the face. I think his coach would agree

Don't give up on Neal, yet. Let them get a new line coach and see if it helps - or move him to RG.

Thibs is still learning and growing. He’s only 22.

But, none of it happened until he was nationally being questioned and criticized.
Mental strengthens as impressive as his stats.
The guy gets sacks and forces turnovers.

He made some good plays against the run today. I thought his worst play of the day could have been a holding call where Howell ran fir a long gain.

That was an unfortunate consequence of a great individual play.

He got his arms up and hit Howell’s arm. Howell’s arm deflected Thibs’ arm into his face mask. Wink won’t be complaining to Thibs about that play.

He was a really young, unrefined football player when he got here, playing PAC12 ball. He's flashing vs. both the run & pass. He's still inconsistent which is common with a young player - next step is putting a good game together every week.
Aiden Hutchinson 4.5 sacks this year

KAYVON THIBODEAUX 10.5 sacks.

Giantimistic : 11/19/2023 6:00 pm : link
1 sack, 4.5, 7.5, 5. Sometimes it takes time. I see Thibs growing every year. Him and Dex should be a growing problem for teams that face the Giants.

+1. And I think he’ll be better when they get another good Edge on the other side.
We need a lot
PaulN : 11/19/2023 6:27 pm : link
Edge rusher, defensive tackle, cornerback, linebacker, tight end, #1 wide reciever, guard, tackle, QB, running back. There is no hope that we can fix this in 1 off season, with this team it feels like 1 step forward and 1 step back. Making little to no progress.
He has been outstanding lately
Modzelewski : 11/19/2023 6:30 pm : link
Not just coverage sacks, either. He’s played well against the run and during passing downs. Those clowns on WFAN are eating poop.

Thibodeaux is evolving into the top edge defender NYG has had since Strahan / Osi.

What would the former Oregon Duck need to do to win you over ?
The Kid has 11.5 sacks this year and is playing nearly every down.
Which is top 10 in the league and has as many tackles and more sacks than all world Micah Parsons.

Also they chipped and doubled him all game.

Need one more decent rusher at this point. Teams are starting to chip and doubling Thibs and obviously they have been doing the same to Dex for a while.
I questioned him

Good fucking God. The kid has 10 sacks w 7 games left.

That's my big take away. Thibs is a closer. IT's the other aspects of his game that need work. Playing the run/setting the edge is key. He's doing it and is more than capable. He's gotta stay healthy too. He has all the tools. The officials need to start calling the holds that are constantly committed against him too. It's good to see KT play through it more and earn their respect---unlike Sauce Gardner who seems to hold all the time, but that's neither here nor there.

Totally agree. Giants have more talent than people realize up front. We need to solidify the front 7. Gotta get two more DL for the 3-4 and another edge opposite KT. LT had his Banks. KT needs his.

We also need a couple of Leonard Marshalls/Keith Hamilton (Hammer circa his 304 days not his 4-3 ones). Great to see McFadden step up like he has.

Hammer didn't play much in the 3-4; he was a backup in his rookie year '92, a starter in 93 at LDE, then the Giants switched to a 4-3 the next year.

It's very difficult to find 3-4 defensive ends in the 290+ range who can play head-up or outside an offensive tackle who can both play the run and rush the passer. The Giants tried that with Dexter Lawrence and he didn't thrive until he was placed at a DT spot instead of a DE spot.

And Winks defense played pretty well against Dallas last year. I’m just not for firing the guy on the defensive side of the ball when the offense hasn’t been able to cross the 50 most drives.

I bought a JPP autographed Helmet during 2011, so I'm a fan, and that single year could have been a DPOY season that few players will touch, but if thibs is consistent, he's easily going to pass JPP as a pass rusher. High hopes but high talent. And he's merely a child still.
