overreact to one play. I'd make him an offer, but nothing crazy.
That is where I am at. He has not made a difference this year. If he wants to be here at what they want to spend ok. He hasn't been a difference maker yet
has a unique skill set. Has been solid. He is fast, but it's not linebacker short area quickness, very long strides. He looks like a giant cornerback. But if we can keep him, with Okereke and McFadden, that's as good a linebacker core as we've had in quite some time.
is he gets a long-term offer elsewhere and counts in the free agent scorecard on the "left via free agency" side of the ledger to offset a signing the Giants make and possibly help with a comp pick calculation. that is the kind of thing the Eagles or Patriots (when they were good) would do. Maybe turn that 7th they sent away for him into a 6th.
He is not an impact player IMO despite the pick 6 today.
His best role is as a Rover kind of hybrid safety like Landon Collins or a Kam Chancellor.
He would be terrible on the edge. He isnt strong enough, he doesnt take on blocks well, he doesnt disengage from blocks well because he doesnt use his hands well.
he can be good situationally to create pressure, but as an every down guy.. not his best role...

Agree totally, I'm glad he saved the day but the Giants need better.
I'm happy about the seemingly development of McFadden, would be nice to find a partner for him in the middle.
Was a microcosm of why the Cardinals let him go. While he had an INT for a TD, it was more because he was in the right place when Howell let off a wounded duck of a ball as a result of pressure by someone else. In the same game he could have sealed it by just falling on Robinson fumble but instead he tried to make a scoop and score and didn’t secure the ball. He also hasn’t done much as a pass rusher despite his athleticism.
His free agency value should be just a hair above the minimum but I wouldn't go much more. He plays like 20-30% of snaps or something can't really be offering him much.

On the Robinson fumble, didn't McKinney end up with the ball?
But everyone is right. He never stands out. He'll make the occasional good play, but never anything dynamic. He is VG as a 3rd and long QB spy because of his speed. But even Cor'Dale Flott is more physical than Simmons.

You are thinking of Rodriguez fumble I believe. Robinson had fumbled inside the red zone right before Dotson TD but rather than just fall on the ball Simmons tried to scoop it.

Ah, that is during the period my stream crapped out. Thanks
He can’t bend and he’s tall. He has no shot at being an edge rusher. Zero! He had no bend to his game no ankle flexibility. He’s as stiff as they come which is why he can’t make it as a starter. He’s extremely limited. Plus his tackling is atrocious. Besides that he’s a hell of a football player
It was a nice pick 6 and made up for not coming up with
Good enough player to be in some packages but not a full-time starter. Kind of like when he was drafted, he can do a lot of things but he doesn't do any of them at a plus-level.
Who is becoming a nice role player. Were he a rookie you'd be optimistic, depending on the opponent, is on the field about half the time making some disruptive plays when he is.
If the Giants feel the same, what's that worth? Nacho dollars?
on a 1 year minimum deal. He is a sub package player but has some versatility and he is a nice compliment to McFadden. Cant see any team running out to give him a starting job.
It's 1 play. Landon Collins made that same play last year and they had no interest in re-signing him.
I still think there's plenty of room for Simmons to click in Wink's system down the stretch.
Remember - he warned it would take some time for all the new players at the start of the year. Okereke just got in a month ago - and he was here all summer. It's a radically different scheme than anybody's ever played in - and if you think you're going to step right in and master it while playing against NFL offenses, you're crazy.
Immensly talented kid, but
First franchise gave up on him
Giants got him for next to nothing
Snaps declined every week, basically.
He is a role player who made a good play, very good play. But you can't offer him more than what the coaching staff thinks of him.
Initially he seemed like a perfect matchup piece in Winks system, but it didn't materialize.
Great point!
Oh wait. It's not -- it's a totally false premise. You a flat earther too?
Simmons plays on passing downs. In case you haven't noticed the Giants haven't had many leads and lots of big deficits. He's played 1/3rd of the defenses snaps except in blowouts - Buffalo game being a low exception and Miami where he played all game a high one.
And I am happy to say I was very very wrong on him. He doesn’t have an NFL position, as he’s not a ILB, corner, or safety. He’s a sub-package Linebacker in passing situations. I’d bring him back at a vet minimum deal, but that’s it.
He has not been someone who has consistently contributed...yet
He has the rest of the season to build on that play.
He is not an impact player IMO despite the pick 6 today.
I really like that idea

As do I.

Been hoping for that myself. At least if he’s there the last 6 games, he’s played there more than Ojulari.

He's underwhelmed, but I'm curious to see if he picks it up down the stretch.

He is a role player at best that made one play
Geez!!!
he has some talent but isnt strong
Sounds good in theory, but isn't he a bit "small in the ass" to be an ER?

Agreed. I'd love to retain Simmons regardless if Wink is here or not, but I'm certainly not breaking the bank for him.

Athlete not football player. And the athleticism declines fast in your mid-20s.

Really?
He has 32 tackles this season (7th on the team) - ~ half as many as McFadden in half as many snaps.
