BTW, who the hell created our schedule? We were out west what? 2 weeks ago.. and then again for one game against the Wild? And now we're back out west/south? Da fuck, man...
year was when the Rangers were getting shutout 1-0, and K'Andre Miller ties it up in the 3rd with 1 second left on the clock. Rangers go into OT and Fox seals it on a scattered play.
I'd really like to see Mika get going. I'm having concerns about him being a true 1C. It's early, but he's not doing much out there 5v5.
Hope Laf keeps it up and continues to improve his stellar play. Also would like to see Kakko doing more than just cardio out there.
In 2020 he had something like 4 points through 20 games, and finished with 50 points in 56 games. He is a notoriously slow starter. I feel like he's doing a lot of good things out there, just seems like his shot is off right now. He will still finish the season around a point a game with 30+ goals while being one of the better two way centers in the game.
I would imagine Igor is in again tonight but no word yet. Stars are very good, my preseason pick to win the West. I expect this game to be one of those games people describe as a "playoff type game". These are two exceptional defensive teams with arguably the two best goalies in the league. Really looking forward to this one.
are worried about 5v5, I wouldn't be, but also if you notice on the PP, under Gallant it was all about setting up the Mika one-timer from weak side dot.
Now, under Lavy, that is still an option but I notice Panarin in that spot a lot too but more often they are looking for the point shot from Fox or Miller (or Panarin from up high).
The one-timer is hard to defend when you get the goalie moving, but by creating options (and it's worked so far, Kreider leads the NHL in 6 PPG) you make the PP harder to defend.
Mika is the epitome of a team player and he's near the bottom of the list of things I'd worry about.

True, but for the first time in decades, and one of the few times ever, the Rangers will have backloaded home games in the 2nd half.
This team has all the ingredients. First, they have the coach.
Second, they have a tried and true system the coach implemented that works in the NHL, particularly great for slowing down real fast teams, it's roughly a 1-3-1 system. The best news is that the team has taken to it. It's sort of a counter punching type system. It's best for players that think fast or think ahead rather turn players that just skate fast. I think it's a perfect system for these players.
Third we are strong at all 3 levels, we have the forwards, we have the defense, we have the goaltending. We are also proving to have the depth.
When you put all this together, it's a great combination. If you are the type that looks from purely a player talent level. Do we have real stars. We have 3 real stars. Panarin, Fox, and Shesterkin. One for each level. Tge strength of the team is our defensive core. When healthy, Fox/Lindgren is one of the top pairings, the Trouba/Miller pair is one of the best second pairing in the league, and now the Schneider/Gustafsson pairing, which is the biggest surprise, due to the addition of Gustafsson and Schneiders development, we now have 3 very good pairings. Plus Jones has also looked pretty good as a 7th defenseman.
Too bad, but should increase the Rangers chances of getting a win tonight. I was looking forward to an Igor/Oettinger match-up. Curious why DeBoer would decide to hold Oettinger out of this one. I guess they wanted to have him fresh for their game against Vegas Wednesday night.

Agree with alot of this. Especially the part about having a system. There is finally structure, and that is something they didn't have with Gallant. Don't discount either that this is probably one of the most complete coaching staffs they've ever had.

That's exactly what it is. Vegas is a more important game to them than tonight's.
This is too bad, I like Harpur and thought he filled in admirably when called upon last year. Hope he can make a fast and full recovery, he's a solid depth option.

Couldn’t agree mor.
In particular I enjoyed him jackhammering Corey Perry last season!
He’s a big kid but doesn’t play physical and he doesn’t contribute much offensively either. I have no idea how he’s been playing in Hartford this year, but this is his third go-round in the A. Never a good sign.
but they were not going to get a point in every game the rest of the year. To me this game came down to 3 things. 1. Igor letting pucks squeak through him (which he allowed 2 last game too). 2. Rangers had 3 breakaway chances and didn't score on any. In fact, I don't think they've scored on a breakaway all season. 3. They missed the net on a number of opportunities.
I'm definitely not freaking out about Zibanejad, he generally starts the year slowly, but basically they lost this game because the Stars big guns finished on their chances and ours didn't. The Rangers played a pretty good game in my opinion, until the wheels fell off in the 3rd period. Jones and Schneider had another really rough night. Either way, it's hard to be mad at a team who hadn't lost a game in regulation in over a month. No shame in losing on the road to one of the best teams in the league. Go take care of the Pens and it's all good.

Yep. One of the best periods they played this season, considering the strength of the opponent.
Rest assured they will get this one right.
Yup, completely careless.
I think the ref thought he had it under his glove and that Marchment hit his glove to knock it in.
IMV, they took the game over in second period
Tough break. But I guess they were due to lose one.
Alright, regroup and focus on Wednesday
He’s a different player imv.
Defensive positioning was poor tonight
Stars took advantage of his size when he was on the ice.
