so if you could vote, whom - if any - do you select?
Well, since Ortiz was elected, then if I cast only 1 vote,
Matt M. : 11/20/2023 10:03 am : link
it would be A-Rod. I'd also vote Manny and strongly consider Sheffield and Pettitte and maybe Vizquel, since there are similar glove mostly SS already there.
Manny, AROD, Andruw Jones
Chris684 : 11/20/2023 10:04 am : link
and Vizquel
Trio
regischarlotte : 11/20/2023 10:05 am : link
Mauer, Beltre, Manny
José Bautista?
bwitz : 11/20/2023 10:08 am : link
LMAO. Not a chance.
Helton will get in, Wagner will get close,
Mad Mike : 11/20/2023 10:17 am : link
Beltre will either get in or be just short, Mauer will have a strong first ballot but I think he'll be short the first time around.
I think the only one I'd vote for
pjcas18 : 11/20/2023 10:20 am : link
is A-Rod

You do realize there are far worse players that have been on a ballot for the first time. I don't think you know how this works
Beltre is a no doubt Hall of Famer
JoeyBigBlue : 11/20/2023 10:24 am : link
Over 3000 Hits and has a career WAR close to 95.

Manny, ARod, are Hall of Fame talents but PEDs will not get them in the Hall.
Also
JoeyBigBlue : 11/20/2023 10:25 am : link
Joe Mauer should be a Hall of Famer too. I think Vizquel should get in for his glove.
If ARod doesn't get in the HOF is a joke
jinkies : 11/20/2023 10:26 am : link
.
Beltre
Enzo : 11/20/2023 10:31 am : link
is a lock. He'd be a lock even without the 3,000 hits.
Of the newcomers.....I hated him.......but he was a nasty hitter and
GiantBlue : 11/20/2023 10:42 am : link
competitor.......

Chase Utley.

The guy could rake and field. He was a quiet dude off the field, but involved in a lot of Philly area charities.

He would be on my all GiantBlue MLB All Star Team for sure!
Beltre and Helton

Pretty sure I do. Fuck your for the condescending tone though!
Beltre, Manny, A-Rod.

excluding the steroid guys
Enzo : 11/20/2023 11:25 am : link
who should be in already I think Abreu, Billy Wagner, Utley, and Beltre should get in. Helton is a maybe for me. Maurer was a unique player with an interesting case but he spent a lot of his career as a 1B/DH which diminishes his value IMO.
Ill go 4
JT039 : 11/20/2023 11:26 am : link
Rodriguez, Beltre, Mauer, and Manny.
Andruw Jones hit 400 homers and might have been the best
Greg from LI : 11/20/2023 11:51 am : link
centerfielder ever. I'd vote for him.
If we let a malicious leg breaker...
moze1021 : 11/20/2023 12:16 pm : link
and one of the dirtiest players to ever play the game into the HOF and not Barry Bonds..

I don't even know what I'd say

He's the one who gave me the most pause. His glove is about as good as I've seen in CF. But, I think his offensive numbers tailed off just enough to make him on the bubble, mostly due to the position he played. Ultimately, I think I'd vote for him.
I initally thought Helton
Matt M. : 11/20/2023 12:27 pm : link
But, less than 400 HRs in Coors for a power position, I think he falls short.
The clear cut choice
The Turk : 11/20/2023 12:28 pm : link
is Beltre. Probably a top 5 all time 3rd baseman. 93.5 WAR (40th all time). If I had a vote I'd go Beltre, ARod, Manny, Jones, Helton
On the whole, I would vote for the alleged PED users that writers and
Matt M. : 11/20/2023 12:33 pm : link
fans have drawn a line in the sand over. I think Bonds and Clemens belong in the HOF. They were the best of their craft before alleged use and elevated to another level once allegedly taking. I think it is embarrassing that Piazza had to wait because of backne.

But, if that line is being drawn, then I maintain Ortiz has no business in the HOF. He has not a HOF player before use; not even close. But, as long as he is in, nobody should say boo about any other alleged users.

The only one I pause at from this group over PEDs is A-Rod. I think he might be the best of the bunch. But, first of all, he had 2 suspensions over his alleged use and involvement. Second, unlike the other HOF caliber players, where there seems to be a clearly and universally accepted point of usage, A-Rod is all over the place. Some accounts speculate as late as the Yankees, others go as far back as HS and everything in between. That means, essentially, his entire career could be questioned.

As for Pettitte, I think he's on the bubble and it has nothing to do with PEDs. Historically, his numbers put him in the very good, but just short category. But, the more modern trend really puts him near the top of his peers, so I'm not sure.

Todd Helton was at 72% last year, in only his fifth year. He's a layup to get in this year.
The Hall of Pretty Good Players?
section125 : 11/20/2023 5:55 pm : link
A-Rod is the only one I see there worthy and his PEDs and rants canned his chances.

I do not see anyone I would vote for - Maybe Andy.

Andy was also a PED user.

As were guys already in the hall.

So... Therein lies the dilemma

Zero chance on vizquel. Great glove and that’s where it ends. He’s not a hall of famer. He’s Rey ordonez with a better bat. Mauer to me is a sure fire hall of famer. One of the best hitting catchers all time unfortunately just doesn’t have the power numbers. Not hall of fame. Torii Hunter should get in he’s a better version of what Andruw Jones was minus the steroid use.

Andy owned it and nobody says boo. His problem is lack of wins eventhough his win % is VG and playoff record is good. Just too few total wins.
First glance at that list and Beltre should make the Hall
Rick in Dallas : 11/21/2023 6:01 am : link
Not sure about A-Rod.

Rey Ordóñez could only dream of having close to 2900 hits and 11 gold gloves. Vizquel was probably better hitter than Ozzie Smith and Ozzie is in the Hall of Fame.

So you think if Bonds and Clemens just said "Yeah I used PEDs", they would be in the HOF?
