I've never been a huge fan but according to some observers he's played well this year even though the Bears have been pretty bad. Yesterday he had some big plays. Almost beat the Lions. We all know the physical traits are among the top in the league. And he's never been paired with a top offensive mind like a Daboll, KOC, McVay...
Whoever is running the Bears next year is drafting a QB. I think that's pretty obvious.
I think a team in need of a QB, who misses out on one of the top 3, could do worse than take a flyer on Fields for a midround pick. A gamble that could pay huge dividends.
That allows them to sit there and take MHjr and use the other one as a bonus for either an edge rusher or a Bowers type or maybe even more likely trade out of the other top pick for a haul and keep building.
I don't know if he is good enough to put it all together. But if you get him cheap and put him with a guru, there's a lot of upside for a small gamble.
Fields is what he is and that is talented athletically but he is not refined. He could be a good QB but in very specific offenses- like the Ravens or the Browns and he needs a bigtime running game to allow his talents to be unleashed.
Agree that Fields is not the answer for the Bears. However his fumble is not what led to a Lions comeback.
Hutchinson did a strip-sack of Fields at the Bears' 15 yard line with only 27 seconds left in the game, which resulted in a safety.
Lions were already up 3 at that point and had the game won barring a miracle.
The loss was on the Bears D, which allowed the Lions to score 2 TDs in the last 4:15 of the game.
Nagy sucked as head coach IMO.
He is what he is - a good assistant.

They did go three and out between those DET scores.
Team loss.
That said, I agree with you on their current coaching staff and Fields. His passing stats have improved every year, he moves the offense and it scores points. He's thrown 4 td passes in two games this year and he's only played 7. I don't think its automatic that the Bears are taking a qb. I think it is just as likely that they grab Harrison if he's there or go defense.
Take the 5th year option and reassess after next season. That would be my approach Fields has shown to be a high level QB at times and could use another year in the system.

Yeah, neither am I. I could see the new staff giving him a year to work with them. The Bears do like him.

Disagree. When your team's defense can't stop the other team from scoring the two TDs the Lions needed to win, in the final 4 minutes... it's on the D.
In any case, my main point was that Fields' fumble is not what led to the Lions comeback.
When he's off, he's putrid. But when he's on, the splash plays are enormous, and he really looks the part.
And if anyone thinks the surroundings for Jones have been problematic (which is fair), the situation with the Bears is worse. Much worse. That organization is Enron.
If Fields gets the right tutoring, the sky really is the limit. But I do get the risks...
Why do you say this? What evidence do you have? Most of the media speculation I have heard has them taking a QB.

Pretty sure ajr is plugged into NFL circles.
