Where the OL was in such desperate straits that they weren't even getting the snap counts right, and, I think it was Bober and Whittle were having to use some kind of arm holding tactic to time their get-off.
You guys need to put some respek on Jeff Hatch's name
But seriously, looking up a pic of this favorite BBI whipping boy lead me to an article from last year saying he was busted and sentenced for trafficking fentanyl. Had no idea... Hatch sentenced for trafficking fentanyl in 2022 - ( New Window )
Glad that UPenn degree went to good use

Live in NH where this happened. He is a free man and think he moved. He was a tall guy but seeing him in skinny jeans shocked me he played football in the NFL when I've seen him in person
Second game of the season Fassel had to kick Bober out to RT because Ian Allen was so bad.
2003 was the year EA and Fassel signed a back up for nearly every DL position and drafted William Joseph and Osi in the first two rounds. All because of blowing that wild card game against the 9ers.
Completely ignoring the OL while signing a new kicker (who didn’t even play that season due to injury) Brian Mitchell and Ryan Kiehl
of Petitgout Seubert Bober Whittle and Rosenthal was far from bad. They actually played way over their talent level that season. McNally did a hell of a job turning three UDFA OL in decent starters for a season. IIRC Seubert received a few pro bowl votes that season. That offense exploded in the second half of the season with Toomer and Shockey leading the way.
2002 line was solid. Excellent pass protection, mediocre to bad run blocking and asking them to convert 3rd or 4th and 1 was not a good idea. But because of their pass pro, the team put up points.
But then came '03. Whittle and Rosenthal left as UFAs, Pettigout's back went out in week 1, Seubert's leg got shattered vs the Eagles and that was all she wrote. The one bright spot? Diehl was drafted that year

I agree with this plus add Dan Campbell into the mix as the blocking TE that year. Our blocking was very good that year, That was a group that way more than held their own, and I for one would be ecstatic with that level of blocking again at this point. The loss of Rosenthal, Whittle and Campbell to FA absolutely killed the level of continuity and blocking capability, and then we lost Seubert to that nasty leg break which completely doomed any semblance of a decent OL in 03.
Lomas Brown, Glen Parker, Dusty Zeigler, Parker, Ron Stone, Luke Petitgout
Except for Petitgout they were all over the hill cast offs but played pretty well for a shot period of time.
Only Lomas Brown and Glenn Parker fit that description. Ziegler was a good center who they picked up in FA from Buffalo, and he was only 29 when he wrecked his knee. Ron Stone was a longtime starter and the best Giants OL in the time between Jumbo Elliott and Chris Snee. They got him from the Cowboys because he was stuck behind Larry Allen and Nate Newton. Excellent player.
Were they perennial backups?
To contribute, Petitgout was a Blue chip bust out of Notre Dame, and Seubert who everyone should know was an undrafted who became a legend Giant.
Fixed: Brown, Parker, Zeigler, Stone, Petitgout

Yeah, I think that was the Shockey/Campbell year, with Marcellus Rivers as the backup. One before Shiancoe, I believe.

Were they that bad? Wasn't that the 2002 lineup mostly?
The team did score points.

petitgout, richie, whittle would all start for this years team pretty easily

Can you tell us pre-2004 fans (due to age) who Rosenthal, Whittle, and Bober were?

I would not call Petitgoit a bust. Maybe he did not fully live up to his draft position but not a bust. He was an effective player.
+1
Aaron Gibson was a bust. I think he was taken ahead of the Gout in the 1st round of the '99 Draft. Luke could definitely play.

I'm guessing he gave up his dealer.

Apparently while he was working at a rehab. He should be in jail.
