Giants three point underdogs at home against Patriots?

Milton : 11/20/2023 6:00 pm
Kind of surprising, don't you think? Not that the Giants are fooling anyone with their win, but still, they won outright as 8 1/2 point dogs on the road against a team that had recently beaten New England in New England. What have the Patriots done to warrant the honor of road favorites?

p.s.--Which, btw, of course means the Patriots will cover, that should go without saying.
I think the spread is based on the NE defense being pretty good
Jack Stroud : 11/20/2023 6:05 pm : link
and the Tommy De Vito offense not being mediocre at best. The Giants defense has got to show up big this week against bad NE offense.
We all remember what happened to Billy Batts when he
Mad Mike : 11/20/2023 6:08 pm : link
disrespected Tommy DeVito. Take the Pats at your own risk.
Defense needs to ball out

and let the offense scuffle along.

The O and OL have been improving incrementally over the year, despite personel setbacks. I thought that was the best coaching we have had this year, last week, but it is still a narrow path to victory.

little bill makes it hard on young qbs.

The Giants won based on a feast of turnovers which won't happen

Always have to take into account

Our offensive line.

Always, for the last decade.
Over/under is 33.5

Thinking the under is a solid play
Belichick has two weeks to prepare for Tommy Devito. That spread might
Strahan91 : 11/20/2023 8:05 pm : link
actually be a little generous to the Giants. His defenses have always given rookie qbs a lot of trouble and the Giants just barely got by with a +6 turnover differential. That’s amazing when you think about it.
I'll take Pats with that spread

Belichick...
bw in dc : 11/20/2023 8:23 pm : link
has a pretty remarkable record against rookie QBs.

Of course, if Mac Noodle Arm Jones plays that will offset any of that advantage.

We suck. But the Pats might even be worse.

Weird spread, considering home team usually gets 3 points.

Now, would I be shocked if Pats won by 3 plus? Of course not.
Not surprising at all

Zappe doesn’t really have an arm either.

Pats skill position players leave a lot to be desired
NE is likely not to turn the ball over 5-6 times on Sunday

Let's remember, with a +5 turnover margin at the time, Washington had the ball with a chance to win the game. That's just about a statistical miracle.
It was the 6th turnover that sealed the game.

Devito played well for a rookie UDFA QB, and I am hoping they let him start the remainder of the season to see what he can do. The issue is that the NE defense is dramatically better than Washington and will likely turn TD over....hence the 3 point Underdog status. The sports books are begging you to bet on the Giants.

Makes sense
HBart : 11/21/2023 7:01 am : link
BB against a rookie UDFA justifies the spread.

That said, the TOs that won the DC game weren't just luck. Every one of them was truly forced (obviously fumble recoveries have a luck element, but the punch outs were text book). Can't bank on them, but the D deserves fill credit for those TOs.
Mac Jones

may stink, but he's had two weeks to be drilled and is playing for his NFL life. The Pats employ a solid use of the run game and have a decent OC in O'Brien.

The Giants had a plus 6 turnover margin against WFT and absent a messy performance by Howell on the last drive and 4th quarter defensive score at the end, nearly lost the game still with Devito and Barkley playing really well.

The Giants may win, but I actually wouldn't be stunned if Giants got beat down for entire game even if it doesn't look like a blow out, something like 27-10 or 27-12.
The Patriots are a better team currently, but
GeofromNJ : 11/21/2023 9:24 am : link
I don't trust Belichick. He wants to prove he can win without Brady. I think he's not above subtly tanking his team knowing he has a shot at a premier QB.
This is a spread just trying to divide betting - no way
PatersonPlank : 11/21/2023 10:19 am : link
the Pats are better than the Giants in reality. I think we beat them

If they finish poor enough to draft in the top 3, Bill may lose his job. There’s been plenty of chatter about them parting ways already. Bill isn’t tanking. And as much as I love him, he’s the greatest coach of all time, I’m not sure if Kraft would want Bill to be the one to develop a top 3 rookie QB after seeing the dumpster fire the QB position has been since Brady left. If I’m Kraft and in position to take a QB, I’m bringing in a new offensive minded HC and letting him pick the QB and developing him. Someone like Ben Johnson would be perfect
