We have clearly sustained a lot of injuries on the line this year, but the ineptitude has to be part coaching as well. Backups or not, these are all professional athletes. It’s not like Thomas went down early in the season and they replaced him with some fat guy from the local Waffle House.
Thomas and Schmitz are clearly mainstays at LT and C. Outside of those two what does everyone think will happen?
- Will they shift Neal to Guard or hope he can man the RT position?
- Will they make a coaching change to potentially get more out of young players like Ezeudu and McKethan?
- Will we see 2-3 new starters on the line next year? (Free Agency/Draft)
The defense is not really in that bad of shape with Thibs emerging and a decent amount of young talent already on board. But the offense will go nowhere until they get this line fixed.
Starters: Thomas, Neal, JMS, FA G, rookie RT
backups: top 4-5 of McKethan, Ezuedu, Phillips, Bredeson, Pugh, Harlow, whatever else they bring in

This is a reasonable approach. It would be nice to turn that Seattle second rounder into a starting guard or tackle.
I have watched several Huskies games this year and Fautanu is rock solid.

I agree with the starters but I think we’ve seen enough of both McKethan and Ezeudu to know they aren’t the answer… and they should be able to upgrade over Phillips.
This seems pretty reasonable as to a plan.
Would probably put another swing Tackle on roster too if able.

You can either move Neal inside to G or let him compete at RT but cant do both. Decision needs to be made after the draft.
However putting a solid veteran RG next to him like FA Mike Onwenu from NE to give him a reliable veteran partner to lean on will help his development
I think LG goes to winner of Ezeudu/Mckethan/Rookie.
I think we need a veteran swing tackle though behind AT.
I’ve brought him up a couple of times. I think he’ll be at the top of our FA priority list. Hopefully he performs well this weekend, like Okereke did against us last year for Indy.
If you are lucky you can add a starter in round 2. Of course that'll be a rookie undergoing the growing pains. Best chance for improvement is coaching up what we have ..... which hasn't gone well of late.
Then let them compete to see who wins the battle to start.
I don't think that you can speculate that Neal will be the starting tackle and for that matter he may not be a suitable guard. His foot speed is so slow. I don't know if he can pull.
The only absolutes are Neal and Schmitz.
I don't trust any if the reserves and I think that the Giants need to have competition at all of the positions.
-Try to identify good OL talent in draft
-Value adds at OT in FA
-Neal improvement
Based on a decade of results, more of the same, just pure crap in 2024.
The entire team is a non-entity until this miserable unit gets fixed.
We've got Andrew Thomas at LT, a developing Center in John Michael Schmidt and then nothing else to hang our hat on. We've got 3 positions to fill and no one certain on this current roster to fill them. Hoping Evan Neal can be an answer at one of the Guard positions.
This is still a pretty desperate situation.
Shift Neal inside, draft a natural right tackle and add some depth in free agency.
JMS is not in the same class as Thomas
Starters: Thomas, Neal, JMS, FA G, rookie RT
backups: top 4-5 of McKethan, Ezuedu, Phillips, Bredeson, Pugh, Harlow, whatever else they bring in
Sign me up.
that " Gem " a second tier guy who is good but blocked by a guy who is better.
This sounds reasonable.

This is something i think people don't consider, or maybe see past too quickly. I see people all the time that get giddy about hoarding money, cap dollars etc, but I often think for whom. Good players don't get to FA anymore. they may get traded, and that is a use for that money if you choose to go that route. That does take 2 to tango, tho.
as far as OL, WE got Glowinski for 7 million. He's not even starting. I feel like a plus guard - should you even have a chance at 1 is going to be 15 + mil..
We have taken care of some of our own (2 vital cogs in sexy and AT) and will still have a surplus.
I would be all for spending the money on OL if they found a worthwhile player. I just think that is increasingly rare.
OTOH there should be no hesitation to spend whatever it takes for a great OL coach. While that is uncapped, i think the ROI on that is much better. I know munchak is a FA, but i would also poach the hell out of other staffs. Solve the problem
Onwenu moved to left guard for the 2021 season, however Onwenu struggled and was benched... and finished the season as a backup guard
The 2022 season was a bounce back season for Onwenu as he moved to right guard... Onwenu impressed at the position, being PFF's No. 4 ranked guard.
He's currently the Patriots right tackle. He would certainly offer flexibility with what they do with Neal.
What have you seen that makes you think this ?
Not qualified to opine on the OL Coach but I wonder...
