Some are asking why wait: the prehab process that is now popular in ACL recovery includes work prior to surgery in order to accelerate the timetable on the back end. Once the swelling subsides and the prehab is complete, they schedule the surgery.
- Kyler Murray tore his ACL on December 12 last year. Came back November 12, so exactly 11 months. He had the surgery 22 days after the tear.
- Joe Burrow tore his ACL on November 22, 2020. He was back by the next year's opener (9/12), so that's 9.5 months to a return. He had the surgery 22 days after the tear.

an ACL appears to be about 10 months. Anything sooner than that would be gravy.
From what I've read, return too soon (say 8 months) and your risk of reinjury increases quite a bit.
All the good surgeons will already be gone for Thanksgiving
Ha, for what they will be charging the Giants, they'll stick around. Probably about two hours to do the repair. Be eating cavier and sucking champagne for lunch at noon!

So it's possible Jones is back for Week 1 next year, but a few weeks on PUP is also quite a strong possibility.
Correction: Burrow was 10 days later.
Jones being a running QB (who has limited slide ability for whatever reasons) ... I figure they'll error on the side of caution. Our SOS will be in our favor or at least it should. Just do not have us opening against a top contender

So Jones is 10 days ahead of Burrow's timeline at the start. Of course there is no way we will know if the injuries are comparable, or if reconstruction versus repair is needed.

This is not new. Dr Warren did my ACL (at HSS) in 1995 and they had to wait for a few weeks before swelling went down and I strengthened my hamstring and quad before the surgery to limit atrophy.
for the swelling to go down before you do the surgery. Pre-hab is helpful, but that's not why you delay the surgery.
Rico, the pre surgery leg strengthening is vital to limit muscular atrophy post op. I used a Cybex leg machine with dual resistance. It was a $50,000 machine back then (1995) that my PT place had.
The general rule of thumb was always 9 months from time of surgery...
Not sure how much of that has changed since the turn of the century, but nine months from surgery would put his return at August 22, 2024. He will likely begin training camp on PUP, but short of an unforeseen setback, he won't be on PUP to start the season.

Surgery at 2 PM?
The Athletic says recovery expected to take 8-10 months

So he won't be ready for the season's start, hard worker notwithstanding. Sounds like next October, perhaps. Wish him well, but we also have to get on with one or more additional QBs, draft or otherwise.

Burrow's ACL was in November 2020 and he performed well from the beginning of the 2021 season.
Burrow's issue at the beginning of this season was a calf strain.
I predict he will be ready by Sept 1st. For all he isn't as noted by this board, he works his tail off.

My bad in confusing those two separate injuries. Thanks for the info, shyster.
