someone suggested it might be modeled on soccer but it's not really. Soccer does have competitions that take place during the regular league season, but they're entirely separate competitions from the league. (For example, most countries, including the US, have a domestic "cup" that's open to teams from every level, even though it's usually a top-level team that wins.) This. NBA idea that regular season games count in both the regular season standings and also some kind of tournament is a new idea to me, and not a great one. Kind of silly IMO.

This really screwed them with that awful challenge in the 3rd qtr. They needed a challenge on that out of bounds play late. Great gutty win. I hope Thibs learned something there on how to play the Heat. Keep Randle away from the ball.
