I believe most of the McCarthy fanfare is coming from Michigan fans on this site. Most unbiased observers aren’t near as high on him. Michigan fans are letting their hearts get in the way of honest assessments
I am a Michigan fan, was at the game against Maryland, and noted on this board that McCarthy played poorly. If you don’t believe me check last week’s thread. He played much better today, which I think is a bit obvious to an unbiased observer.
I’ve also said I believe McCarthy is in the 2nd tier after Williams/Maye/Daniels. The second tier to me is Penix Jr, McCarthy, Nix, Ward, Sanders.
I know people love to hate on Michigan fans but I’m really tired of it. Hate on the team fine. But please try to use facts to support your argument.
I don’t know, I’m a Michigan fan, and I’m not certain they win last year or this year without McCarthy. I get that Michigan usually leans heavy on their running game, but for most of the game, the running game wasn’t working, and Ohio state had their running game going. Not only that, but OSU’s front 4 was getting major pressure on McCarthy, and he not only kept them in the game but kept them ahead the entire time. I mean, what more can you ask for against a top tier college football defense.
Dumb fuck. Why would you have only one defender on the other end of the endzone? It was a fucking 50-50 jumpball.
What a dumb fuck. 2 man rush. How do you let that QB have all day to throw? Worst than ND having only 10 men on the field against OSU.
Simply the stupidest decision on college football history.

Ten men on the field wasn’t what loss the Irish the game.
It was rushing just three men on the critical 3rd & 19 the previous play.
Unless the opponent is out of Hail Mary range, you’ve gotta rush 4 men.
by coaches in football games, but putting a spy on and rushing 2 guys when its 4th and goal from the 31 has to be the dumbest.
There's zero point in putting a spy on. If he wants to take off running, have at it. He's got 31 yards to go. You can not rush 2 guys and have a spy and just let him sit there. The spy was the dumbest thing ever. Might as well have played with just 10 guys

10 men last two plays. You don't think that makes a difference? Yes 3 man rush is absolutely dumb, but doing it with only 10 on the field.
Man if I was Auburn, I may have blitzed, but 3 men is stupid, 2 men is an ignoramous....

I seem to recall ND had a pass on the previous drive when Ohio State had no timeouts. The incomplete pass stopped the clock.

They had 1 timeout left. And that pass play was a perfect play call, 44 on OSU just made an incredible play. There's probably 2-3 players in all of CFB that make the play he did. If he doesn't make it that play is going for at worst a 20 yard gain and the games over and likely a touchdown and the games over. I was sitting on that sideline and the play was right in front of me. The result wasn't ideal, but I loved the call.

Oh it was 100% inexcusable. But the ball was at the one yard line at that point. Personally, i felt like the game was lost when they gave up the 3rd & 19. Freeman said after they played SC that they stayed aggressive against Caleb Williams… “no three man rush stuff” (paraphrasing).
Remember Sam Hartman’s 4th & 16 run against Duke? Three man rush after Duke killed the Irish all drive with blitzes.
Three man rush is terrible. Two man rush is unforgivable.
Isn’t Sam Hartman supposed to be smarter than that?????
+1. Totally agree. I'm a big Huskies homer, lived in Seattle for 40 years, and I also think Penix is 2nd tier also. I don't think he's bad, I just think he's one dimensional, and has not ben impressive late in the season.
Lol.
twice they go with the 3 man rush and give the QB all day. what a dummy.
Lol.
Prevent defense prevents another college team from winning.
But that one was even more ridiculous than usual

It wasn’t even three. It was two and a spy because apparently they were worried about him running it in from 30+ yards away.
Just the dumbest shit ever

Inexcusable. I was wrong, one of them was a spy.
A game where the records really don't matter...
BTW, I think the slot receiver for Bama was offsides on that winning TD.

Looked like the sideline official who came running in to call it
To get 7 wins out of that team under the circumstances as an interim HC is insanely impressive.
