struggled with them in recent years and they have had some ridiculous goaltending this year and last but if both the Zibby and Panarin lines can get going at the same time I like our chances.
If we give the Bruins 8 PP like we did with the Flyers yesterday, we'll lose and Pastrnak may have at least a hat trick.
Bruins PP is only 22% - solidly middle of the pack. I would still stay out of the box, but it should be the opposite. Bruins should stay out of the box because the Rangers have the 3rd ranked PP in the league at almost 30%.
but also...as mentioned Bruins own the league's best PK. Both teams actually have good PKs.
Two pretty evenly matched teams on the back end of a b2b, should be a good game.

Good morning, all. Per Peter Laviolette, Jonathan Quick is starting in goal today. #NYR "He's come in here and he's done exactly what our team has needed him to do,'' Laviolette said of Quick.
CHP, you asked about Goodrow in the other theead--I actually think he has looked fine, but his possession numbers are atrocious. He is also only getting about 11 minutes a night.
Awesome game so far at the Garden and very evenly-matched!
Maybe if it was being played in Sweden or Germany and involved a Canadian team. otherwise two fan bases who always show up, playing an exciting period is not exactly bringing anything new to Bettman/NHL. Right?
but that was such an unsatisfying first 15 minutes to watch. Not just Trouba, also Lindgren, Schneider (he and Jones not having a bad game), Zib, KK: Rangers looking sloppy and inaccurate on their breaks and cross-ice: all that said, gotta credit Bruins' stick work and checking, getting into the passing lanes and it turns possessions. And Rangers guilty of reaching and not keeping the legs moving. Gonna be teeth grinding 3rd.
Not often, but have seen a delayed penalty, score with the arm raised, and if a four minute minor, you take one of the minors off the board.
I love how sad the NESN announcers were at the end
Trouba's crappy flips to no one in his own end that lead to turnovers are going to kill me.
Always need a whipping boy. He has set the tone all year, blocking shots, hitting players, and not giving up goals. I'm not a fan of the stat but he was plus 4 today.
at least someone recognizes the leadership:
Quote:
..."It starts with Jacob Trouba, who has been an absolute warrior for our team... That's the captain of your team setting the tone." -Peter Laviolette on #8 #NYR...
LOL I was going to write "I know pj is going to be mad."
I really like Trouba, I'm not scapegoating him as he's a huge contributor. It just infuriates me when I feel like it's so preventable. Girardi used to do it a million times more.
I love his game but he has limitations. I don't think like you said it's because he's gassed. I just think he is not great at improvising if teammates for whatever reason aren't where he expects or they should be. If he thinks the forward should be in a spot, he's putting the puck there, outcome be damned.
Not removing him from blame, of course it's on him, but I watch playsunfold and I can often predict those plays that drive you crazy (and I obviously notice them too).
and as a player who played F my whole life until late high school/college and not exclusively D until beer league I feel like Trouba should be able to handle it when his robotic play isn't going to work, but also I can relate, lol.
gotta say, while JT has his share of brain farts in his own end, as Brett says, I am loving his game: he is the enforcer and as such the leader; like #55 he puts his body on the line multiple times a game, no fan fare, quiet strength.
Brett, thanks for picking up my Goodrow query from Philly. Watching MSG, Joe and Don Maloney with a good pick up behind the bench, hearing Laviolette speak to each of Goodrow, Vesey, and Pitlick and say you guys are going to play an important role in this game. Another example of his in game management.
pj, on Chytil, was referring to the distant North American players’ aggression vs ‘soft’ European players (remember Ulf and Anders) and whether Chytil would be victimized for targeting him high. As you, I didn’t see the most recent contact that sat him down. It’s a concern for the team to see the apparent vulnerability only increase, which is the awful reality.
and Trouba, fans (on here at least) are FAR more critical of Trouba than Lindgren.
Lindgren's pinch was primarily responsible for the Bruins 1st goal. Despite a great defensive effort by Gustafsson to break up the 2 on 1, there is no way Lindgren was going to make that play, and the chip and chase by Frederic set up the 2 on 1 and the goal by Coyle. that decision making is to me usually more risky than the up the boards turnovers. I like when D activate, but use better judgment.
This is basically where Lingren made the decision to pinch and it's not like the C (or other F) was playing along the blue line:
Man this game was wide open. Entertaining to say the least.
Fourth line was awesome today
Kreider maybe on a heater these last 2 games.
Zac Jones has a terrific offensive game. Wish he was a little bit bigger and stronger.
Jonathan Quick is a revelation!!!

I think Trouba's contract is a big reason for the criticism, which is frankly neither his nor the Rangers' fault. If COVID doesn't happen, it's a fine deal. It's not even that bad right now.
Lindgren is also more 'visually a warrior' than Trouba, as he ostensibly suffers more injuries and misses more time, which helps build his narrative.
Lastly, Lindgren plays with Fox who hides a lot of his errors. Trouba's mistakes tend to be more obvious to the eye (as my criticism indicates) while Lindgren's mistakes are more positional and therefore a bit more subtle (and frequently covered up by Fox).
I like both but Trouba is easily the better player.
Take a quick look at the Wins and Losses without Lindgren
You are making too many assumptions related to one player if you attribute W's and L's to a D.
The Rangers have basically the same record this year with and without Fox. More losses with Igor than Quick. None of that is indicative of what you are trying to claim about Lindgren.
there is a some data available for you to look at and either accept or ignore when it comes to wins/losses when Lindgren is not in the lineup. And it's not just this year, it's over the last 3 years+. Ignore it of you want. I watch every game. The team D looks worse than you would expect without him. I don't think he's Chelios or Pronger, but the record without him is what it is whether you like that or not.
Rangers are 163-84-28 with Lindgren for a .644 points percentage and 47-52-17 for a .478 points percentage without him.
The team's goals for per game goes from 3.23 with him to 2.84 without him. Their power play goes from 20% in games he doesn't play to 24.1% in games he does. Of course, he doesn't play on the power play.
The record discrepancy is because he's missed most of his games when the Rangers sucked earlier in his career.
They went 8-2-1 without him last year when he missed a month from February 26 to March 21. He missed 19 games total last year but this was the most obvious chunk.
He's the Rangers fourth best dman--maybe 5th given the way Gustafsson is playing.
the more I watch the Rangers is that Miller is so close to becoming a major difference maker.
I didn't think his defense would ever be this good, but his athleticism and size offset the mistakes as he still learns the nuances of D. He's on the cusp of breaking out IMO.
He's a lot of fun to watch.
Just throwing it out there, but Kakko for Zuccarello
just let him keep playing. The Rangers have the best record in the NHL and you want to trade a young player who hasn't reached his potential YET for a guy on the verge of retirement? No thank you.
It's not Middleton for Hodge but it's in the genre of bad Rangers trades.
usually I figure I'm missing some of the nuance of the 2020's NHL. I think Trouba has been great this year and he's become one of my favorite players on the Rangers.
He's one of the most feared open ice hitters in the NHL and the Rangers most physical defensemen since Jeff Beukeboom. He is an excellent pairing with Miller who is still learning and getting better. But why take my word for it. This is from The Athletic:
Quote:
What a difference a season makes. The first half of 2022-23 was not good for the newly named Rangers captain — too many mistakes on the ice to make up for being justly rewarded off it as the team’s leader. He had eight games out of the first 25 last season when he played under 20 minutes; through 18 games this season, Trouba has more games over 25 minutes (three) than under 20 (two).
He played 7:50 on the penalty kill Friday, the third-highest total for any player this season in a single game. Trouba’s the only player in the league to have two games with more than seven PK minutes and he logged 12:15 of total PK time over the last two games. Ryan Lindgren was close behind at 11:26 over the two games.
Adam Fox’s absence could have had some major impacts — on the power play most of all, but without a sturdy K’Andre Miller-Trouba pair, no Fox would have left the right side of the Rangers D corps without a real minutes-eater. Trouba has been that guy this season and it’s a big, big reason why the Rangers are where they are.
Of the 67 NHLers who have logged at least 300 even-strength minutes this season, only three have been on for fewer than the nine goals Trouba’s been on the ice for. Last season through 18 games, Trouba had been on for 19 goals against at five-on-five.
to make it a 2-goal lead and while the outcome of the wide open game was very much in doubt, with Brunz making minutes long occupations in Rangers' end: not sure if DeBrusk or Pasternak was the puck carrier (maybe neither) but he had a stride or bit less on KAM and flying down the right wing with a high danger chance looking to be the outcome if the F could use the gap to cut toward the slot; somehow Miller maneuvered his body to envelop him, clearly no holding/hooking, and wrested the puck away, gained possession. Stuck out to me at the time because it looked as if could have been a pivotal defensive play.
Cuz of that and team's 5th goal that had similar thoughts to pj's.
I assume Ullmark today for BOS, Swayman played yesterday.
this game features the two top "defensive teams" in the league in terms of goals allowed per game.
Rangers have a top 3 PP, Bruins have the top PK in the league.
Should be a good game.

Can't say for sure who you will get since I only see the local Boston listings, but this game is listed as on NHL Network, MSG and NESN

Bruins Update:
Brown (F) and Lohrei (D) assigned to AHL WannaB's.
Grzelcyk activated for today's (Sat) 1:00 matinee at MSG vs. NYR.

How about that crappy flip to Kreider?

That was a crisp pass with his head up, not the a dumb, errant flip that Trouba frequently does when he is gassed.

I'm most disappointed in Kakko, though. He is showing absolutely nothing this year.

I think he played superbly today and has had a great season.

I just think fans on here like him more than he should be liked, lol.
and in this case I think there are lot of variables that contribute to the data besides Lindgren being in the lineup or not.
You can consider it however you want. I am not trying to change your opinion.

I just think that record is wildly misleading.
I actually like everyone on this team. A few things I want to toggle, but there is no Ryan Reaves or late career Dan Girardi here.
I didn't think his defense would ever be this good, but his athleticism and size offset the mistakes as he still learns the nuances of D. He's on the cusp of breaking out IMO.
He's a lot of fun to watch.
Let’s wait
I would like to see him paired up with Chytil when he returns.
It's not Middleton for Hodge but it's in the genre of bad Rangers trades.
And Othmann is a LW, Perreault a RW.
this is assuming you need to trade either.
I can tell you my 1st round pick would be in play 100% - unprotected. it will be near the end of the 1st likely and can get a player.
the Rangers "problem" adding at the deadline will be cap room - if everyone is healthy they may need to "buy" some LTIR.

Grimy Rangers lead the way in Pennsylvania sweep - ( New Window )
Cuz of that and team's 5th goal that had similar thoughts to pj's.
Coyle is one helluva player.
When he was traded for Ryan Donato a lot of people felt it was a steal for MIN.
