he has some arm talent. It's nice to see the Giants QB try to throw the ball downfield. I think he and Jones will both be on the roster next year. We'll see if there is a 3rd QB soon enough.
reading these posts. On what planet is DeVito a good QB? I was at the game and outside of those sideline passes to Hyatt, he looked pretty bad. He has no pocket presence, poor footwork, and holds the ball waaaay too long. As an italian american, i love this kids story, but if you have a pair of eyes and a working brain, you gotta know he will be a 3rd string QB or at best, a #2 on a very poor team. Love the guy but to say he is better than Jones is just nonsense.
How many games has TD played with both Andrew Thomas and JMS?
Guess i just don’t see the point in turning a positive development into an excuse to bash jones or the contract and drum up more misery. Everyone knows the worst case scenario there but some of you need to say it over and over and over.
Cross the jones is forever fucked bridge when we get to it. Why can’t we just be mildly encouraged to see Daboll turn DeVito into an nfl player?
This is a positive development.
RE: RE: RE: I love how the haters want to pretend 2022 never happened
“Commenting” on Devito’s play, has anyone mentioned the OL performance today?
Both guards were horrid, JMS looked “fair” at best and even AT was “meh”.
No running game, and a bad weather day.
DeVito didn’t do anything stupid, he still has a lot to learn. Only professionals could assess what his projected ceiling is.
I sure as hell don’t know.
DeVito is better than DJ in one respect, seems to me

Right? I don't get why everything is Jones bash. The OP doesn't like Jones. Since Jones is done for season I guess anything at all the team does - positive or negative - can be fodder to whine about Jones.
DeVito was great today at times and most important didn't make huge mistakes. Our D came up big, we caught some breaks, we won by a hair.
The OL looks like it has 4 starters and has played together a few games. They gave him tons of time and space. With that time Jones would have carved that D up. Probably TT too. Though you can't beat perfection at not giving the game away without playing scared and that's what DeVito did.
Kudos to DeVito and the coaches for their performance today, and thanks for the missed FG, but this was a contest only because the team played well enough when it mattered to win and DeVito did just enough to do that while not losing. And better than his stat line even. Which is awesome. Better than the Pats QNs.
RE: RE: RE: RE: I love how the haters want to pretend 2022 never happened
The selective amnesia when it comes to Jones is amazing.
the haters? Sounds a bit juvenile.
And yet in this case it isn't, it's unfortunately appropriate.
I think you are equating not liking him as the Giants QB with hating.
There's two different camps of those who don't favor Jones: one is the one you speak of, but there's another that reaches for any opportunity to bash him. It's not only over the top, it's unfair and flat out wrong. Those are the haters I speak of.
Easy to forget he is a rookie. He actually has a lot of arm talent. If he could settle down and make quicker decisions then he might have a future in this league.
taking shots that Jones refuses to pull the trigger on. He looks like a rookie though, takes sacks trying to run away when he doesn’t need to and checkdown instead.
Considering most of the sacks he gets is for waiting too long to get rid of the ball I am not sure what you are watching.
That is what I meant, he holds onto it too long and tries to run out of the pocket instead of looking for his checkdown.
to make first downs with his legs, which is a big loss. If Jones returns, he needs to bring Hyatt into the game. Hopefully, DeVito will show enough this year so that we don't have to pick up and pay for a veteran backup. Whether he or Jones can be starter quality is still up for debate.
2022 Jones was a better than average QB who was capable of winning games in the clutch.
2023 Jones played behind the worst offensive line play I’ve ever witnessed in my 60 plus years as a Giants fan. No accident he had neck injury early on. I think he came back too soon and looked off. We all know how it ended from there.
You can’t fairly judge him on his 2023 play.
DeVito has played in 3 1/2 games and the results are mixed. To say he is already better than Jones makes no sense to me at this point. He has five games left to show who he can become.
I’m of the opinion that DeVito and our drafted QB will battle in the Spring and Summer and Jones will be in the mix late in training camp.
Like it or not, we have to trust Scoen and Daboll to figure this out.
Right. You can't fairly judge a QB in his fifth year after 50 or so starts....
He was fairly judged by two objective observers with over forty years combined experience and their careers on the line and the verdict was $40M/year with $82M guaranteed.
Jones career avg is 203 ypg and 1 TD per game with .66 ints
Yesterday DeVito posted 191 yds and 1 TD with no turnovers on a very bad weather game
And he did it vs a Belichick D notorious for eating up rookie QBs
He also significantly outplayed both other QBs for NE who combined for a 136 yards and 3 INTs . One a mid-first round pick and the other a 4th rd pick (who had previously looked fairly capable last season)
DeVito is an Undrafted Rookie FA in his 4th NFL game
He has 697 yds 7 TDs and 3 ints in 4 games and is avg 176 ypg and 1.75 TDs and .75 ints
Right. You can't fairly judge a QB in his fifth year after 50 or so starts....

And both of the two objective observers are now trying to get out of this horrible contract asap.

And as Eric has said multiple times, they are going to be out of the job after 2024 for this decision unless they reverse course this offseason.
If you're pinning your hopes on Jones playing like a top-15 QB when he's done it once in his career - based primarily off of his running value - coming off ACL and neck injuries in a season where he clearly had the yips, best of luck.
Where Jones threw all of 15 TDs. Haha.
How many did DJ play with both of them this season?
1 drive vs. Dallas.
These things matter.

We will see what the GM and HC decide to do at QB in about 150 days.

The excuses never end for a QB that only throws hooks and check downs that opposing DC's laugh at. Lets give him another 5 years .
Stop the nonsense people.

Really? - you know for a fact that Daboll and Schoen are doing that? How?
We can hope that is the case.
If Jones delivered this performance today you’d be roasting him.
Exactly! What are people watching?

Are the expectations for a 5th year, 6th overall pick veteran the same as the expectations for a UDFA rookie in his fourth NFL game?

I suspect the Ipad flip on the sidelines says it all....lol

We are watching about the same level of QB play as the past 4-5 years.
