Why is Sterling Shepard on Giants roster ?

averagejoe : 11/26/2023 5:38 pm
His drop today cost Giants a FG. He was average in his prime and is now washed and useless. He needs to go and take Paris Campbell with him. Pick any practice squad WR from any roster and it is an upgrade . Mara can keep paying him as captain of cheer squad .
add to that

Sheps big drop last week too! How did we whiff so bad on Golloday and Campbell??? I don't understand how he's doesn't even appear to be an nfl caliber receiver after a pretty good run in Indy!

Wanted him before the season started.

Hyatt. That's the reason and it is worth having him for that.
I'm a Shep fan, love his grit.

But I found myself wondering out loud today why it always looks like the ball is actively trying to get out of his hands. Go watch his targets. It looks like the ball is trying to escape. He makes the act of catching look violent.

I was OK with keeping him, he had a nice preseason, although I (most, tbh) also wondered aloud why Crowder was cut
I heard that

He shouldn't be dressing
Jay on the Island : 11/26/2023 7:06 pm : link
He doesn't play special teams and he offers nothing on offense. He is just taking away snaps from players who have a chance of being here next season. After the season they will likely add him to the coaching staff but there is no way that he should be re-signed.
He has to go

He’s shot.

His drop was maddening. I'm sure he's great in the locker room & all that jazz, but please...let's move on.
Shepard is literally the 6th receiver

on this roster, on a team that ranks 30th in passing. He's being paid close to vet minimum. It really isn't worth the energy to keep harping on this, it's irrelevant.

Name the players whose spots he is taking....

Yes he is a shell of himself and part of that is lack of use - rust. There has to be a reason Parris Campbell is not on the field vs Shep. Campbell should be better and he is much faster.

He's essentially on scholarship. He does absolutely nothing 90 percent of the time. He is one of those cliche "well he is a good guy/leader" giants who ownership is obsessed with for some odd reason.
You guys have no memory

The knock on Shep was NOT that he couldn't catch.

The knock on Shepard was that 1. He was always injured. 2. His age and salary made him unlikely to be on the Giants team after this year. 3. His presence prevented younger players from being developed.

He certainly fooled me. I assumed he'd by on IR by now, rather than being in decline.

I don't know about that; Shepard's more of a slot type while Hyatt is more like Darius Slayton with speed. Maybe Shepard was an emergency option if Robinson couldn't return quickly enough (still puzzled myself).
He currently has
JALAPEN0 : 11/27/2023 11:46 am : link
23 career rushing attempts
And 22 career receiving touchdowns.

More rushes than TDs is never a good WR stat, right?
He's keeping
