What if DeVito is our Romo/Brady ? .....

Manny in CA : 11/27/2023 7:24 pm
The O-line suddenly pulls their heads out of their collective heads out of their you-know-what’s and he gets “all day” to throw the ball ?

And the Gints run the remaining table ? I’d love to see that, a QB controversy. We would not have to draft a QB, but go get studs at DT to replace Leo Williams, a TE to replace Waller and a big ugly RB bruiser to help soften up the defense like Brandon Jacobs did back-in-the-day

Can we not compare DeVito to the QB GOAT/TB12? And a damn good QB in Romo?

Slow down. Now I think both he & TT have been better this season than the QB stealing $40 million from us.
What if he's the next Heinecke?

As is typical with this board I’m sure I’ll be labeled a DJ fan boy but can we pump the brakes on Taylor and DeVito being as hood or better than Jones?

In Jones’s losses he faced Dallas, @SF, Seattle and @ Miami.

Taylor blew the fucking Buffalo game and pretty much personally cost us that one. Posted 9 and 14 points going 1-1 against Buffalo and the Commanders.

Taylor and DeVito lead us to a combined 10 points in the Jets game. Taylor looked absolutely brutal that game before getting hurt.

DeVito is a really nice story and I’m rooting for him but if we can nitpick Jones performances based on who the opponents are, we should do that same for each QB.

Just call a spade a spade.
Would love nothing more than to see the OP proven right!

DeVito's moxie, arm strength and decision making, particularly in throwing receivers open in the vertical passing game, are a beautiful oasis in this brutal season. He is developing a great connection with Hyatt, which is truly great to see.

But he has clear limitations that might be manageable, but probably limit him to an NFL backup role. Which given expectations is not insignificant and actually a very pleasant surprise. He has actually reminded me a bit of Taylor Heineke these past several weeks. And the locker room clearly loves the kid.

This is truly a master class in coaching by Brian Daboll given where DeVito was just several weeks ago. Will be interesting to see how he looks with an extra week of preparation against Green Bay!
I’m with Manny on this

If DeVito closes the season strong move into position to take Harrison Jr., grab a couple of free agent guards, and draft BPA the rest of the draft.

I am enjoying the DeVito story but even if he finishes the season strong the Giants should take a QB if Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, or Drake Maye are on the board. Best case scenario is that in two years the QB they drafted is a franchise QB, Jones is traded for a draft pick after the 2024 season and DeVito is an established elite backup.

OK DeVito is a great story and who can't root for the kid. He's also done a very nice job taking care of the football. But let's be honest. The reason that Giants have rallied after a dreadful start and won a couple in a row and three of their last six - and are what two plays away from winning 5 of the last 7 - is that the defence has played lights out in those games. We did pitch clunkers against Dallas and in Vegas but in those other 5 games they allowed less than 12 PPG and took the ball away a ton of times.
I’m sorry

But the game I remember yesterday was a 10-7 win with the only TD set up by an INT which started the offense in the red zone.

If he was with the Cowpukes, I think he would have accumulates at least two winning rings.

If the O-line ever gets it together, I still think he can help us bring at least one more Lombardy to the team. I see DeVito like a Garoflollo type, a terrific back-up who can surprise you , even in a Super Bowl if need be.

The moment he has a string of bad games he'll be consigned to backup. And if he gets outplayed in next training camp by another potential backup, it's back to the practice squad.

The O-line suddenly pulls their heads out of their collective heads out of their you-know-what’s and he gets “all day” to throw the ball……..for Daniel Jones???

Or do all these excuses that the Daniel Jones Haters Club complains about not apply to DeVito as well?

I mean…how can you not love a QB getting himself sacked at a historic rate, constantly under throw receivers, and do the bare minimum against the leagues worst teams! Sure - this guy is the next Brady!!!

You guys can hate Daniel Jones all you want - but your views of DeVito are outrageous. And laughable.

C'mon Manny, how can you really believe that, when a number of experts on this board, who are much more knowledgeable, and can evaluate talent better than the people running the Giants, say DJ is not the guy.

So let me get this straight. Daniel Jones would have won 2 Super Bowls with the Cowboys and Tommy DeVito is like Jimmy Garoppolo, who led a team to the Super Bowl.

I’d say the fact that Jones has been statistically one of the worst qbs in the NFL since he stepped foot in the league while leading a bottom 10 NFL offense year after year and never staying healthy has made it clear Jones is not the guy. All of this going into year 2? 3? 4? 5? Nope…year 6!

DeVito is still young and raw though. If anything it should excite you as to what Daboll can do with a better QB prospect.

Agreed. He played at a decent level in college not like he is coming from the lower tier NCAA teams. We have saw more times than not systen and situation play a huge factor in a player's development and career especially early on. We know he has a very stable home life and limited distractions. He finishes strong and plays well the 1st few games of 2024 before Jones is cleared it will be really hard to just pull him like that, IMO. The other guys like winning and being competitve vs getting blown out.
DeVito’s fourth game is coming up and if the analogy holds
cosmicj : 11/28/2023 7:58 am : link
With Brady, it will be an important marker. In week 5 of the 2021 season, after several competent but lackluster games, Brady unleashed a corker: a 364 yard 2TD / 0 INT performance in a tight win against the Chargers. Not sure it was noticed at the time, but everyone in the NFL should have sat up and taken notice. Brady followed up with a 3 TD passing game in a decisive win against a good Colts team.

Point is that Brady in his 2nd year was already showing signs of excellence, even if there were growing pains. DeVito is a rookie, not a 2nd year player, but if he is a Brady like prospect, we won’t need to wait long for signs to appear.
Look, Devito has made some nice plays and is a tough kid
