Riley Leonard, once considered a possible first round pick to start the year has decided to stay in school and enter the transfer portal. Smart move. He will be highly highly coveted.
Leonard should check in with USC (although they have an excellent crop of young QBs; including highly rates Malachi Nelson), Oregon or Georgia.
Yes, Team Leonard needs to check out the crappy defenses in the west and the playmakers in the SEC before committing himself to a potential issue in Notre Dame. Those other venues will raise his stock-price much higher.

Crappy defenses in the west? The Pac-12 is gone brother
There would be no interest in Riley Leonard at UGA
Even if Carson Beck declares for the 2024, there are two highly rated prospects behind him currently and the Bulldogs have the best recruit in the country, Dylan Raioli, available the Fall 2024.

Fair points. But Smart will play whoever he thinks gives Georgia the best chance to win regardless of recruiting status. He basically chose Fromm and Bennett over more physically gifted players like Fields and Daniels.
Currently on UGA’s roster there are three QB’s with eligibility for 2024. If Beck returns, he will be the starter in the Fall. The Athletic’s Seth Emerson thinks it is 50/50 that he will return. As I said, there are two others at QB currently. There are two more recruits eligible to play the Fall of 2024 with one being Raioli. There would be no opportunity for Leonard at UGA,

I'm saying if Beck leaves, it wouldn't be inconceivable for Smart to consider a Leonard because Smart has demonstrated he will choose the best option, not just go with the best recruit.
I wonder what Ewers is going to do after bowl game
According to the Athletic’s person covering USC, Riley is not particularly enamored with what he has on campus for QB and Leonard might be an option there.

That is very interesting because Malachi Nelson was the #1 recruit in the 2023 class and he's the QB.
Just not sure what he is going to do after the bowl game.
Not sure he will declare for the draft.
I think Sark would love for him to return
Everything I have heard is that Ewers is staying. He missed a few games so his numbers are down, its a tough QB draft class, and he loves being there. If this happens I've also heard Malik Murphy transfers because the next job is Archie's, whenever Ewers leaves.
RE: Rick, why would Ewers, if he played college in 2024, not return to UT?
Wouldn’t it be Murphy, the #2 QB who would be moving on if Ewers returns? Arch is the current #3 QB.
Sure this year, however Murphy is not the future. He is the "now" guy who has been there and knows the offense for an extra year. Whenever Ewers leaves this becomes Archie's team.
Its a ridiculously strong QB room, Murphy could transfer almost anywhere/
he'll be a good dual-threat and maybe with a competent WR coach they can actually have a passing game versus tough opponents.
I do worry longer term though since this is the 3rd out of 4 years where ND has gone to a rental transfer QB. ND is going to need to be able to develop QBs in-house at some point. If they keep turning to transfer QBs I'm not sure why top QB recruits will commit to ND when it's unclear whether they'll ever get a chance to play.

That guy has more skills than Arch.
He'll go to the highest bidder. Let's cut the crap about college athletics; these are pro athletes looking for the biggest payday.
I think Elko is going to ride with Conner Weigman. He was a 5 star qb just two years ago. Sat his first year then this year got hurt in september and missed the entire season.
Cam Ward staying in school and entering transfer portal. Will be a huge get for someone.
Expect a $2M NIL price tag requirement...
Was hoping he would have progressed more this year, but there is still a lot I like about him. Still quite young for his class year despite the experience.
in that he doesn't need the NIL money. If he leaves it'll be for a starter situation. But he has no college tape of him playing since arriving at Texas I believe..
Sources are saying he is going to return to Texas.
Big news since he was a pretty interesting prospect and now what does Arch Manning do?
Saw that. Not only Arch, but Maalik Murphy who is a monster playing QB.
Manning is staying, Murphy should transfer. This is Archie's job the minute Ewers leaves. Murphy can play a lot of places, he should go showcase his skills somewhere
Did I just see that Dillon Gabriel from Oklahoma is transfering?
Pool now. This is pretty big news. He wasn’t any great shakes but a QB from a top 10 school leaving is something to keep an eye on.
Yeah. Pretty much tells you Day has seen enough, and he has a better solution on the roster (Devin Brown? Air Noland (2024 freshman) or portal (Ward, McCall, McCloud, etc)...
Maybe he can bring Ewers back... ;)
RE: Did I just see that Dillon Gabriel from Oklahoma is transfering?
I honestly don't get some of these transfers, I mean what more is he looking for? I get it if a kid thinks he deserves more playing time.
Rumor is Oregon here. 99% of the time when a guy like Gabriel transfers he already knows the destination. Likely didn't want to go play in the SEC next year where Oklahoma may not be any good. And he just lost his offensive coordinator.
You think Leonard is all but checking out apartments in South Bend?
I feel good for the Sun Bowl. We should beat Oregon State considering all their defections compared to ours. Haha.
Does ND have any QB recruits coming in? I haven’t really followed them that much this year on the recruiting trail. I find it hard to believe that going to the portal every freakin year to bring a guy in for one season, then start all over again is the best strategy. It takes awhile to get comfortable in a system for most guys.

BBS, the staffs plan is that this is going to be the last year they go after a portal QB. The previous regime (Kelly and Rees) put them in this position and they don't have anyone waiting next year that they are going to be very confident in.
The following year that should be much different. They have 5* CJ Carr coming in actually next week he is coming in and he will practice for the bowls (can not play in the game). He's the Grandson of Lloyd Carr former Michigan coach.
Kenny Minchey is talented. I just dont think they're comfortable enough with him to turn things over to him next year as a redshirt freshman. I would be surprised if either Carr or Minchey werent starting week 1 of 2025.

But will he be the starter if he went to ND? Notre Dame has Minchey and Angeli, in addition CJ Carr is committed for the 2024 class.

DJ Ugh transferring again as well. Total bust as a prospect. Just never could get over that hump.

Interested in watching him the week of practice at Senior Bowl.
And I still can’t believe Parker was retained.

I mentioned this last night. I've never seen a 5 star/#1 recruit look as bas as Moore.
He struggled to end the year and they are high on their freshman.

Leonard is a very good bridge to those two guys.
