Oregon vs Washington tonight. Oregon is the better team right now. Washington clipped them earlier. Should be a fun matchup with Penix and Nix slinging it. Lot of good WRs as well.

Here’s a hypothetical scenario. You’re winners this weekend:
Washington
Michigan
FSU
Bama
Texas

If this is this case - No SEC in the final 4? Hmmmm

Yeah - no question. No conference is getting two in this year unless Michigan, Texas, and Georgia loses.
Rooting for Texas to win their final Big XII championship

Gives them a chance to make Final 4

Bama has a good chance to beat Georgia whose defense is not as strong as previous 2 years.
I think Oregon beats Washington and Michigan beats Iowa.
Not sure who wins ACC.It’s a toss up to me.

Iowa to beat Michigan. Texas to beat Ok St. Louisville to beat FSU. Oregon to beat UDub. Bama to beat Georgia.

bw, no chance in hell Iowa beats Michigan.
Four undefeated teams now.
PA Aggie : 12/1/2023 8:01 am : link
(Five if you include Liberty)

So if they all win, decision committee has an easy job. Texas would get left out with one loss. (Although I think the TV networks would really love to have Texas in it.)

Texas needs an upset, I think FSU is a possibility due to second string QB.

If multiple upsets, decision committee will have a very tough time with many one loss teams.

I know. But I can dream.

If you want to get a good laugh, look at Iowa's offensive stats. I've linked below.

It's absolutely stunning how bad their offense is and they have ten wins. They have 20 offensive TDs in 12 games.

I think Kirk Ferentz is a good coach. But him having his son Brian as OC as long as he did was criminal. The athletic department had to step in & boot him out after the end of this season.

As well as Michigan, FSU, Texas and Oregon do they get in? Hard to imagine a playoff without the SEC Champ, especially considering the wins over top 25 teams and the Conference’s success in past playoffs.

I think the committee has to be secretly rooting for a Georgia win or FSU/Texas to lose.

How do you put Bama in over undefeated teams and a team that beat them?
If Bama wins
ajr2456 : 12/1/2023 8:33 am : link
Along with Michigan, Texas, fsu, Oregon Bama shouldn’t get in.

Oregon would have the better resume and head to head has to matter even if it was early in the year
Oops
JT039 : 12/1/2023 8:34 am : link
I saw you put Oregon in there. That will be the debate between them and Bama. If Washing, Michigan win - they are undefeated and conference champs.

Then it comes down to Bama and Texas. Texas beat Bama. Sorry Georgia has to be out too. No (real) quality wins and no SEC title.
Also past reputation shouldn’t
ajr2456 : 12/1/2023 8:41 am : link

Beating Georgia on the road - SEC CG is in ATL - would be enough for me to qualify Bama over FSU and UT.

For me, FSU just isn't the same team right now and Bama lost early enough to recover from that UT loss, even if it was H2H.

Any playoff without an SEC team this year would be a joke.
ThomasG : 12/1/2023 8:49 am : link
And a very credible case that even if Georgia loses to Bama that both should go in.

Even an undefeated FSU team is not one of the 4 best teams. And both Georgia and Bama would put a whooping on Oregon, Wash and maybe even Michigan.

That’s the way I see it as well but I was curious as to what others thought the committee would do.

I know Bama lost to Texas and that has to count in Texas’ favor but it was very early on and Bama hasn’t lost since, while Texas has. Plus beating UGA would have to give Bama huge bonus points in the committees eyes.

Gonna be interesting to see this all play out but my gut tells me an SEC team gets in even a one loss Bama.

Disagree. Florida and Auburn are equally as bad and FSU covered with their backup and Alabama needed a Hail Mary

Over Bama doesn’t count because it was too early, then just start the season in November. What’s the point of playing the games?

Texas scheduled Alabama on the road and beat them.

It should count for something but my question is does the fact Bama hasn’t lost since while Texas has, along with Bama beating #1 Georgia in a Conf Champ this late in the year count more heading into the playoffs?

The goal is to get the four best teams right now in right? I’d put Texas in over FSU because of the Noles QB situation but not over Bama if Bama wins. Plus I have a hard time seeing the committee not putting an SEC Champ in.
If one team beats another

“Have to put the SEC champ in”
ajr2456 : 12/1/2023 9:07 am : link
Is part of the problem. Why? The SEC had the worst non conference record, the bottom half of the SEC was absolutely terrible. There were five good teams (tennesse shouldn’t be ranked they only are because they’re SEC).

Past conference reputation should have no impact on this years rankings.

I cede the point on H2H. But there is more credibility and weight if Bama takes out Georgia on the "road". That would be too good of an accomplishment.

BTW, you know these rivalries like Bama v Auburn are games where the records mean nothing. Those games get nuts. So, I wouldn't be so quick to diminish that win by Bama....

I wouldnt even consider Missouri or Ole Miss good teams. They are pretty good. Ole Miss two best wins are against Tulane and LSU and they gave up 50 in one of those games.

And dont give me rankings with this team. If Michigan beats Iowa - is anyone really going to be impressed with them beating a top 15 team? Of course not.

They were better in September but if Bama beats UGA in Atlanta tomorrow are they better now?

Doesn’t the fact Bama hasn’t lost since while UT has factor into it? The goal is to get the four best teams now in the playoffs.
So Texas beating Bama in Alabama doesn’t count
Rick in Dallas : 12/1/2023 9:15 am : link
Because it was early in the season while Bama needed an absolute miracle to beat Auburn.
I call BS on that as Texas if it wins the BigXII absolutely deserves the nod over Bama.

Do you think the Jets are better than Philly? ;)

Do you think if Bama played Texas now - anywhere - Texas would be favored?

Milroe is a much better player/QB now then when they lost to Texas three months ago. Which makes Bama a better team...

Doesn’t that say even more about FSU winning a rivalry game with their backup?

Jordan Travis is good, but it’s not like they’re losing Clemson Deshaun Watson. There’s even some things Rodemaker does better, including the deep ball. Their defense has also given up 58 second half points this year. FSU is legit with out without Travis. Would they beat Georgia, probably not. But I don’t think it’s r guaranteed blowout everyone is expecting.

Of course it counts. It would count more to me if it wasn’t the first game of the year though and If UT had run the table and were undefeated there wouldn’t even be a discussion.

But they have lost since while Bama hasn’t, and if Bama beats the #1 team in the country tomorrow that’s a huge win.

The SEC is significantly stronger at the top and middle than anything else in the country. And it typically is.

Watching the crappy defenses of the west coast teams and some of the weak QB play in the Big 10 is alarming.

The game tomorrow between Bama and Georgia is basically for the SEC Championship and basically for National Championship as well.

Agree, and to add to that, they beat Alabama on Tuscaloosa, fairly handily. And Texas losing to Oklahoma, in a rivalry game, isn't a bad loss.

But they still didnt beat Texas at home nonetheless. Week 1 matters as much as week 14. There is no order of importance on when games are played. They all count the same.

Why even look at records then? Just put the 4 hottest teams in and let them duke it out.

This stuff whos playing matters now is a sports jock type commentary. Should we discount FSU win over LSU since LSU is playing better now? Of course not. The game counts. It doesnt matter when its played.

Theres a shit ton of crappy defenses in the SEC. Georgia is the best team in the nation. There is no doubt. But if they lose - they cant get in over Bama. And they cant get in over undefeated teams. People shit on Michigan for their non-conference schedule. Georgia's is just as bad. Missouri and Ole Miss arent good enough to leap undefeated teams.
I think there’s some SEC hatred in this thread
Eman11 : 12/1/2023 9:25 am : link
And people are just tired of Bama and UGA winning the past two. I get it as a lot of people would love to see fresh faces in the Final Four.

Maybe hatred is too strong a word but objectively looking at it, I don’t know how anyone following the game doesn’t see how good that Conference is. To me it’s on another tier than any other and while I too would like to see new teams in, I want the best teams playing now in.

I think whoever wins that Championship has earned the right to be in, even a one loss Bama.

FSU doesn't. Undefeated in this ACC?...whatever.

Hopefully they will just lose and give the committee a way out instead of having to exercise poor judgment.
