Do we blame this guy for the fact that Parsons is not a Giant?

Can make a case for both. If I had to bet, I think they go with Tyrod, assuming he’s healthy

The Giants' bye week is over. Players are back in the building today (we'll get a few on zoom this afternoon) after a full-week break.

It's an extended week of practice with the Monday night game against Green Bay: Practice Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat with Thu off.

There's plenty of intrigue, leading off with who starts at QB against the Packers: Tyrod Taylor, assuming he's healthy, or Tommy DeVito. And does Daboll announce the starter tomorrow or drag it out all week?

Wink Martindale and the other coordinators will speak on Friday for the first time since the Jay Glazer report on his relationship with Daboll.

There could be some key players returning from injury. If I had to handicap the order from most-to-least likely to play on Monday, I'd go Tyrod, Evan Neal, Darren Waller

Sources: #Giants QB Tyrod Taylor is being designated for return off Injured Reserve, and his practice window is being opened this week. Taylor (ribs) is now added to NYG’s QB mix as they come off their bye.
Ugh
BigBlueShock : 12/4/2023 9:37 am : link
I see no purpose of playing Tyrod over DeVito. They aren’t making the damn playoffs, there are too many teams to jump. Developing DeVito to see if you have a potential back up on the roster should be the priority at this stage. Tuning in on Monday night to watch Tyrod Taylor is uninspiring
I feel conflicted
Bob from Massachusetts : 12/4/2023 9:44 am : link
I know I'm in the minority, but I want the Giants to win. I am guessing they have a better chance to win with Taylor starting, but I think it's a legitimate issue whether DeVito could be the backup next year, and more experience helps him and helps answer the question. I'm intrigued to see what they do
Tyrod gives them a much

better chance to win. Sorry, that is the truth. However, like everyone, I would like to see DeVito play to see if he can be the backup QB next season.
The question is - will Tyrod make it to halftime before being injured agan?

Bull Shit … TT flat out sucks and he was a terrible signing from the start. Let’s see what the kid can / can’t do. Absolutely nothing to be gained by giving TT a single snap.

Not quite yet for Darren Waller. But don't believe he's too far off.

How has TT been a "terrible signing from the start"? He was much better than Jones when given a chance to start this season. He is cheaper than many backup QB's.

Yeah, but he's not Mahomes. Why can't they find a backup like Mahomes?

Add me to the list of those tricked into being excited about that trade. Turns out the Giants were suckers and the Raiders saw them coming a mile away.

That's a great question. Why can't they have all-pro backups at every position that make the league minimum? Fire Schoen!

Yes, agree. Developing Devito has true future value.

Also not certain he doesn't give team just as good a chance in the games as Taylor would. Especially since he has been playing/practicing with the starters for a month now.

Only Jacoby Brisset (1 yr/$8M) and Taylor Heinicke (2/$14M) have higher AAV than Taylor and Mitch Trubisky (both 2/$11M), among QBs who signed their contracts to be backups.

And that dollar investment will influence the playing decision.

As for whether TT was a good signing, his age and proneness to injury would have to be taken into account, given that availability is the number one desirable quality in a backup.

Tom Quinn, special teams assistant with the # Titans, will take over for Craig Aukerman as ST coach.

Quinn was a long-time special teams coach with the New York Giants, where he served from 2006-2021 before being hired this offseason.

Andy Dalton makes more than Taylor as well. Proneness to injury? When he was a full time starter in Buffalo for 3 years Taylor missed a grand total of 4 games. He didn't have an issue staying healthy until he came to the Giants.

What appetite is there to develop a back up QB? The fans and media are acting like sharks with blood in the water. TD just won 2 games, the team is playing hard, and everyone (fans and media alike) is still running around like the house is on fire.

People say they want things like a high draft pick and to develop young players, but no one seems to have any tolerance to allow that to happen. If the offense struggles, people will continue to call for the coaches head. You can't win and lose at the same time.
One thing to consider with Taylor as the starter
dancing blue bear : 12/4/2023 1:40 pm : link
It allows for better development of the young WR (hyatt and WDR) and -OL neal and JMS. By having a vet in there, it allows the offense to function - maybe not nec at a higher level, but more sophisticated with wrinkles and in game adjustments etc.

It will also give a more clear picture of kafka/ playcalling. He was really bad early in the year (As was everyone) but even tho not reflected in points i def feel off coaching, play calling/ play design has been signifigantly better as the year has gone on. It more closely resembles what i saw last year where we were able to beat "more talented" teams.

I love what TD has done, and I do think he should start until he looks out of his depth, but in a way developing TD will slow down alot of other development.

Best chance to win is a factor as well. I think it is TT, but it is not egrigious and unexplainable to stick with the kid. I don't think the team would look at it like giving up or not trying 100%. jmo

Dalton's contract is 2/$10M, which ranks him lower than TT's 2/$11M on the Spotrac list I linked.

TT had two concussions and a knee injury his last year in Buffalo and several issues in the intervening period before arriving at NYG. He had another concussion shortly after joining the Browns, and yet another concussion in his first game with the Giants.

Sep 20, 2018 NFL Head Cranial Concussion Grade 1 Taylor cleared the protocol in time for Week 4 but was held out because of a minor back injury.

Sep 20, 2020 NFL Chest Lung Puncture Taylor suffered a punctured lung after pregame warmups in the Chargers' Week 2 contest against the Chiefs. He was sidelined for 6 games

Nov 18, 2020 NFL Chest Rib Sprain/Pull Unspecified Taylor managed to suit up as Los Angeles' No. 2 quarterback Week 11 despite his lingering ribs injury
