I mention Sipe because that’s who Tommy DeVito reminds me of, physically. I’m not saying TD will go on to an All-Pro career, but the similarity just came to mind. All things considered, why do most people say it’s completely ridiculous to imagine this kid can’t develop further? What can’t he do that he needs to do to have a career as a starting NFL quarterback?
How do you quantify what he "can be" before the draft? You are going to have a small sample size to do that.

If we knew for certain he would be consistently comparable to those guys, I’d say no. Still so many other needs to address. I’d prefer one of the stud receivers in round 1 and (in order) an OT, guard, Edge, DT and corner in lower rounds. I definitely don’t want to see the Giants trade away future picks.

The board has gone way overboard with some of the player assessments in the last few weeks, up to an most specifically at QB. If I read the threads correctly, Tommy Devito's 158 yards passing last night clearly make him among the best passers in the league. He is doing great, but some perspective. Both the decision and throw on the flea flicker were awful....it was likely an INT if not for Robinson's great play on the ball.
TD has the makings of a solid NFL back-up QB. Let's enjoy him and his family for as long as the ride lasts.
Additionally, we're at the point that some are now asserting that Daniel Jones can't basically tie his own shoes or complete a pass in the NFL. He has his issues (e.g. anticipation, quick reads, etc.), we can all agree, but the dog piling on him has gotten out of control.
he has shown some moxie. That aspect would be similar to Sipe,
who was definitely an overachiever in his career. I saw him in person in one game down in Tampa years ago (when the Bucs were good, almost went to the Super Bowl one year)...well he played great I recall, although I don't recall who won the game.

I like TD (SU alum) and am very happy how this is going, but let's be very honest...his ceiling is not anywhere in the class of top 10 QBs in the league, which is fine as there are many QBs in the league that fit that category. If the Giants are looking to dramatically improve the level of the QB play they will need to go and get one of the top 3 in the draft. If not, let TD and DJ battle it out next summer.

Randy Johnson had the great game in the season finale when Fran sat in his helmet the whole game , sulking because Squint had him benched . Once a high draft choice of the Falcons , he was sacked so much that his confidence waned . Like what happened later to David Carr.
I was at a Browns -Giants game , think it was 76, when the Browns replaced Sipe with Dave Mays, who had a downfield rocket of an arm. Previously Sipe threw the most ill-timed pick in Browns history . Playing the Raiders in the playoffs , the Browns were in position for a short, game- winning FGA when Sipe inexplicably threw the ball right to Raider DB Mike Davis in the end zone . Lastly I think Trump signed him for the Generals along with Walker and Carthon.
DeVito is a better athlete with a stronger arm. Sipe’s historical correlative is fellow Brown alumni Bernie Kosar . Again not saying what’s going to happen with DeVito but he is most expressly not a skills-challenged , minor athletic talent .
You have your timeline wrong. The interception was the infamous Red Right 88 play in the 1980 playoffs, not 1976.
DeVito is nothing like Randy Dean or Jerry Golsteyn or other young 1970s QBs the Giants played before they drafted Phil Simms in 1979. If you aren't old enough to remember the 1979 season Simms took over for Joe Pisarcik at half time of the 5th game which was the Giants 5th loss in a row and they were 0-5 when he made his first start in game 6 1979.
Phil won 5 out of his first 6 games before he hit the rookie wall and faded at the end of the year. But for a fan base starved for hope at QB since 1971 when Tarkington was traded back to the Vikings it was the same kind of fun and hope as DeVito.
PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME I'M COMPARING TOMMY DEVITO TO PHIL SIMMS. I am not comparing their skills as a QB. I am comparing what it felt like when Phil Simms won 5 out his first 6 games after years of mostly horrible football.
I will point out the Giants current starting QB has never inspired this type of excitement. I don't know what DeVito's talent ceiling is but he's got the same type of football rizz that Phil Simms did in 1979.
