Post-Game Transcript: Quarterback Tommy DeVito

Quarterback Tommy DeVito

On how he would sum up his night:

"A little bit of a roller coaster, but wish we could have come out with the win here."

On what Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll told him at halftime:

"That he was going to go to [Giants QB Tyrod Taylor]. He wanted to have a spark or change, anything we could have. I understand it's a business. We weren't scoring enough points so the change was made. That was that."

On what problems the Eagles were presenting to him in the first half:

"I think it's more of an execution thing. On third downs especially. Not necessarily taking care of the ball. We just need to stay on the field. That's all it is."

On how much he takes away from experiences like this:

"It's tough. It's just a constant reminder that it's a business. They're always going to try to find someone to replace you, wherever it is. At the same time, it is a business. It's your job. I respect it. There's no hard feelings one way or another. I was hoping [Giants QB Tyrod Taylor] was going to go out there and ball and we win the game. It's nothing more than that. That's all it is."

On what he expects for next week:

"We're going to work, watch the film, and do all that. At the end of the day, it's not me or [Giants QB Tyrod Taylor's] decision, it's the coaches."

On what his response is to people who say the 'fairytale has come to an end':

"It's just work to me. I just go out and I've been trying to enjoy it every single day. I've said it before and I'll say it again – You never know when a snap is your last, so I try to go out and make the most of every snap when I'm out there. I appreciate every snap that I've had and I just try to keep moving forward."

On what the Eagles did to make the first half so difficult:

"Like I said, I think it was more about us. They played hard. Their [defensive line] played well, and again, our offensive line, [Giants RB] Saquon [Barkley] did well in the run game as well, so it was kind of a give-and-take there. That's what happens when you play against a good team, but there was nothing in particular that they did that was really stopping on more than ourselves."

On when he found out he was getting benched and how it made him feel:

"Yeah, halftime, [Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll] told me. As a competitor, it hurts, but at the same time, it's business. That's that."

On why he thinks he wasn't able to move the ball downfield:

"Yeah, they were playing big zone. They were not trying to let any of our receivers get behind them. Especially early on, they were dropping out of everything and not letting anyone get behind them, that's all it is."

On if he learned anything watching Giants QB Tyrod Taylor:

"Yeah, I have to go back and watch the film. He's a good leader. That's all it is. We had a good start to the second half with the special teams getting us all the way down there and the [offensive line], [Giants RB] Saquon [Barkley], did a great job getting in, orchestrated by [Giants QB Tyrod Taylor]. Second one we had a pick-six, led to points, and then ultimately at the end of the game, we had a great shot with the quick quarters, perfect look, good play we had called. [Giants WR Darius Slayton] ran a great route, [Giants QB Tyrod Taylor] threw a dime for a huge touchdown. But, yeah, I think he did a good job of moving the ball. Finding answers within what the defense was giving him, and I continue to learn everyday throughout it, how he plays."

On if Giants RB Saquon Barkley shares with the team his frustration with losing to the Eagles:

"Yeah, he's frustrated, but I'm sure everybody else is frustrated as well. People have been in this locker room before [Giants RB Saquon Barkley], or before last year, you know, where it hasn't gone our way. It's frustrating to lose to a team once, let alone a few times.

On what he thought of the atmosphere:

"I thought it was cool. Especially at first, I mean, they started off hot, so the crowd was into it. But it's a good atmosphere to play in."
I have no sympathy for TD being benched.

For every minute he’s milking his new (and short lived) fame, he should be studying film.
That Waller drop in the red zone

was a fucking killer. Classic Giants.

Their #1 option in the passing game wide open over the middle and he drops an uncontested catch. What a nightmare he’s been.
Bottom line. Their players are better than ours. This offense play

Calling just looks so much different than last years too. And I can't criticize Slayton for the dropsies anymore. This whole team has them. I watch other games and see the catches that are made and I shake my head.

He is completely washed. I understand why they made the trade when they did but he is just a losing player. Need to move on.
I wonder how much his play the past 2 weeks

impacts his future. He wasn't the problem, but enough bloom came off the rose to show he is not part of the solution either. Did enough bloom remain to have him still considered a nice, cheap option as a backup?

Don't forget, right now, we are in QB no man's land. Jones is hurt and clearly not the long term answer. DeVito is showing he's a nice story, but also not a long term answer. We pick just outside of a spot that would land Williams, Maye, or Daniels and high enough where picking any other QB seems like WAY over-drafting. Throw in Jones being hurt, and we don't even have an opening day starter.

I don't know about his health this year.

That said, he seems to have played "soft". He has gone down easily (slid a couple times), gone out of bounds, not made contested catches. There may be reasons, but the film doesn't lie.
Focus had him about 8 points lower than

Taylor . The problem with the Giants over the last 2 losses hasn’t been quarterback play . 3 Olinemen graded in the 30s. The TE room is a broom closet & the WRs couldn’t separate against one of the worst secondaries in the league .
