NGT: Can Texans beat Ravens?

Lafferty, Daniel : 1/17/2024 4:52 pm
Texans were absolutely buzzing last week and go into Saturday's game as a 9.5 (!) point underdog.

The Ravens have been great all year but when you start to put it together: long layoff + Lamar J's career playoff record of 1-3 and Texans peaking right now game should be a lot closer than the line indicates IMO.

The successful playoff strategy vs LJ has always been to sit back, contain him and let him beat you with his arm.

I like Stroud as a passer more. I think Texans have a real shot to pull the upset.
I don't know
Festina Lente : 1/17/2024 4:56 pm : link
But these at mouthwatering matchups on paper. Still think Ravens are the best team left so i would bet on them but i hope it's a shootout with plenty of bombs, clever runs, and good defense
On any given

Sunday....or Saturday!
It should be entertaining to say the least

Almost all of the matchups should be fun to watch.

My prediction:
9'ers/Ravens SB

Same. the only reason I'm not picking the Bills to beat the Ravens is the Head Coach in Buffalo. He's got a team to win it all this year, but he's a dumba$$ going up against a superb HC in Harbaugh.
CJ
Simms : 1/17/2024 5:09 pm : link
I know the Browns played Houston recently and CJ was out. But kind of shocked how they beat the Browns defense before the back to back pick six TD's.

His release is quick and the moment does not seem to big for him. An upset would not shock me.
I think this
Amtoft : 1/17/2024 5:10 pm : link
Ravens defense is to much for a CJ... As good as he has been this will be a whole other level. Ravens in a blow out.
Texans can definitely beat the Ravens
ThomasG : 1/17/2024 5:15 pm : link
Not exact on the numbers but recall something like #1 seeds lose in the divisional round about 25% of the time. This is since 1990.

Weather is going to be cold though so probably favors defense to some degree. And Ravens have a very good one.

Looking forward to seeing if Lamar Jackson can take the next step with his career.

This isn't Greg Roman's offense
Go Terps : 1/17/2024 5:31 pm : link
Anyone that makes Lamar beat them with his arm is probably going to get beat.

I think this game is asking a lot of Houston, who's already had a great year and must be feeling fantastic about the future.
Baltimore has hosted
Dankbeerman : 1/17/2024 5:31 pm : link
a ton of playoff games and not been to the superbowl in a long time. They can be had.
Weather might be the only thing holding him back.
Lafferty, Daniel : 1/17/2024 5:34 pm : link
As well as the Ravens pass rush, of course.
He has consistently upped his game vs great defenses going back to his performance vs Georgia last year in the Peach Bowl.
His only "bad" game this year was outdoors vs NYJ but he was missing Nico Collins and Schultz in that one. Excited to see what he can do vs Baltimore.
He sits back there and really slings it like Brady used to with Moss LOL
Can they? Sure. Will they? No!
Jack Stroud : 1/17/2024 5:44 pm : link
.
IMO - I think both #1 seeds coast to big wins
PatersonPlank : 1/17/2024 5:46 pm : link
Buf-KC will be a war
Detroit should win comfortably over TB
The Texans are a great story...

I love what they have done trusting Stroud from the start. Great coaching meshed with a great young talent.

But they are going into dark waters dealing with Baltimore in Baltimore.

Unless LJax completely spits the bit, I expect Baltimore to destroy the Texans.
the Texans winning the Super Bowl

might cause Jerry Jones to have a heart attack - or go into deep depression!

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/17/2024 6:07 pm : link
I think Ravens win, but a lot of pressure on LJax.

And I don’t see a SF Baltimore Super Bowl. At least one will get upset these next two weeks. I would bet Baltimore being the team that loses before February 11th.
Of course they can. Anyone can beat anyone in the NFL.
Route 9 : 1/17/2024 6:14 pm : link
I think Baltimore wins, but barely
Sure
armstead98 : 1/17/2024 6:27 pm : link
But they won’t. 9.5 is a big spread and everyone’s high on them after they beat an overrated browns team.

I bet Baltimore wins and covers.
They may not beat the Ravens, . . .
3000_MilesToMeadowlands : 1/17/2024 6:36 pm : link
but just project what they will do in their division over the next 2-3 seasons - it could be domination. This team is on the rise, fairly young, and has quality talent all over the field with a good GM & coach Another good draft or 2, and their a 13+ win team.

Jones would pay $1 billion or more to the refs to try to make sure the Texans didn't get any calls if they made it to a Superbowl.

They share a division with Trevor Lawrence. Let's see how things go.
With CJ, they have a punchers’ chance … but Lamar and company will

I agree. In a parity league the talent levels between teams has mostly vanished. The Giants didn't beat Philly they crushed them. It's mostly about QB play and Jackson is not Otto Graham .
Well...
Johnny5 : 1/17/2024 7:16 pm : link
If I was a betting man I think Houston gives them a run. But honestly, I have a feeling Baltimore comes out on top. They are my pick to win it all this year. They are scary this year when they are humming.

I might be eating my words in a few days, but I think the Ravens are the most complete, 'best' team in a decade. I really think they are a cut above. Jackson could have a bad game or something, but I think they win by 10+.
Sure why not
Lines of Scrimmage : 1/17/2024 7:33 pm : link
it's the playoffs. They accomplished a lot as a team so I think they will be pretty loose. Maybe the Ravens are a little tight and that leads to some poor play and turnovers.

Get up early or at least keep it close and make it a 4th QTR game.

I agree that the Ravens look like a very complete game so I can see them winning very comfortably if they get out to a early lead.

Their run game is something to behold.

I agree they look good. Pretty complete team. I just don't see anyone beating them. It's so weird to think that Pitt beat them twice though... lol. I know last game of the season, but still, and it was even the same score as the 1st loss... lol
Anything can happen, but I don’t see it.
Section331 : 1/17/2024 8:57 pm : link
Rookie QB on the road against one of the best defenses in the league. That spells trouble to me. I’d be surprised if Balt didn’t cover.

I think the Ravens dropped 6 or 7 passes in that game, including a couple TDs.

Oh yeah, their losses were all sort of weird too (outside of that last one). Any given Sunday, etc. I've really enjoyed watching them this season.
I honestly think they can...

The bye week is not always kind to a good team in the playoffs.

In fact, I expect it to be a damn good game.
The Texans are a better team than what the experts say
Fishmanjim57 : 1/20/2024 3:25 pm : link
C.J. Stroud is a darn good young QB, and gives them the chances they need to win. He's what the Giants don't possess in that position.
How well will Stroud and the Texans
BobR in Durham : 1/20/2024 3:32 pm : link
perform in sub-freezing temps? Game time temp will be around 20 degrees F.
