Hey Manny

Thanks for this. But the Vikings line doesn’t look right to me at all. Maybe double check?
SB 1 was in ‘67

The Jets beat the Colts in SB 3 in ‘69. So again, worth checking.

No Browns? They last won it all in ‘64 and have never even been to a Super Bowl. And oh yeah…they lost their team for 3 years in the late 90s.

Manny's off by a few days. The Vikings won the NFL 1969 season, but the championship game, which they won, and SB, which they lost, were in January 1970.

I am rooting hard for Detroit. Next to the Giants winning, I pull for them.
Saying Minnesota won a Championship in 69

Is a bit of a stretch...IMHO
Thanks YA ....

This whole issue is confusing because the merger was not official until 1970 (even though Super Bowl I was played on January 15, 1967 as you pointed out).

https://americanfootballdatabase.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_NFL_champions_(1920-1969)

The Vikings participated in Super Bowl IV on January 11, 1970, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs 23-7.

I was stuck in Air Force basic training at that point and listened to the games on the radio.
Here is a video of the 1969 NFL championship game ....

Agreed, I would love to see Detroit win it all. That said.... I don't see anyone beating the Ravens this year.

Thanks for posting this. This has confused me to no end trying to figure this in between period out before.
Refs freakin robbed the Cardinals in SB 43
sb from NYT Forum : 1/23/2024 9:50 pm : link
...I will never agree that Santonio Holmes made that catch.

Both Roethlisberger's SB wins are tainted by shit calls, IMO.

Now I’ve got it. Thanks for the clarification. ;-)
I remember the 1969 Jets Super Bowl well
yalebowl : 1/23/2024 10:28 pm : link
I was home to Connecticut after serving 13 months in Vietnam and then 10 months in the Philippines and now stationed in Washington, DC while in the Marine Corps.

I watched the game with my high school girl friend who really didn’t know much about football. So I did spent a lot of time explaining as we shared beers. I still had another year or so to go in my enlistment.

The relationship didn’t prosper but we did see each other from time to time over the years as we married and divorced other folks.

Little did I know then that the Jets would not be back to the Super Bowl. It was over the summer of 1969 I returned to rooting for the team of my childhood and teen years - The New York Football Giants.
The Super Bowl is

The NFL Championship! The Vikings did not win the NFL title in ‘69-‘70. They won the Conference title, KC won the NFL Title.
It was a tangled web ....

"Under the merger agreement, the leagues maintained separate regular-season schedules for the next four seasons—from 1966 through 1969 with a final championship game which would become known as the Super Bowl—and then officially merged before the 1970 season to form one league with two conferences"
Manny I understand that technically you're correct
Dr. D : 1/25/2024 10:48 am : link
but I wonder if even older Viking fans who were fans at the time, consider the '69 championship as a real championship (considering the SB had been around for a few yrs).

There's a reason most people here (including myself) were confused. No one (as far as I know) considers the Baltimore Colts the NFL champs of '68 (even if technically they were).
