i have to wonder if daboll/schoen being on a hot seaat without a qb

makes this job less attractive...

1 year job.

TEN with new HC/GM has at least 3 years of runway with Levis.

I think Daly

Could be the guy. There’s a Pats connection of recent. If Henderson was the process leader he would have been promoted already by this point.

Honestly, this is quite disheartening. No way Daly is coming here honestly and giving the nod to Henderson when we were very openly courting Wilson reeks of desparatuon.

I am not saying Henderson will be a bad choice, but the number of coaches that either said no or were denied by other teams is alarming.

In Dennard Wilson's case, #Titans roster isn't any more talented than #Giants. If he went to #Packers or #Rams, that would've been easy to understand from a personnel standpoint.

But TEN offers more stability. New coach. Longer timeline. Coaches around the league see #NYG in a situation where they have to win in 2024.

We don't know that he was Daboll's No. 1 choice. Just that he interviewed twice and they seemed to be waiting for his situation to clarify.

From asking other many coaches about #Giants candidates, I got the best feedback on Brendan Daly and Dennard Wilson, so I'd say Daly is best available option.

That said, I haven't asked about Jerome Henderson or Anthony Campanile because I know plenty about both from experience

Dennard Wilson is headed to the Titans to be their defensive coordinator.
Connection there for the former Ravens DB coach: worked with GM Ran Carthon with Rams from 2012-2016.

So two Giants candidates off the board: Wilson to Tennessee and Bobby Babich stayed in Buffalo.

In-house promotion of Jerome Henderson still makes a lot of sense for NYG.
That sucks

I really liked his experience/results. I guess it’s Henderson or Daly. We’ll find out how highly Daboll thinks of Henderson soon.

Rick, I know I sound like a scared little girl. But something tells me he is in waiting to take over for Spags. There has also veen a lot of bad mojo around the Giants coaching staff this offseason. Again, I know my post comes off as doom n gloom, but this coaching cycle and everything we have heard about Daboll gives me trepidation. I dont remember a time when we had this much controversy about our voaches. Sure, it could be the media stirring shit. But there is an awful lot of smoke.

Sorry if I sound like a wuss. Lol

I doubt Daly ever said no, but Schoen said they'd have the DC hire announced by week's end, and the earliest that Daly could be officially hired is after the Super Bowl, so those two facts taken together would rule him out.

He never said they'd have it announced by the end of the week.

He said he expects to have the search concluded by the end of the week. So I'm not sure we can take what they say too seriously. Also they could decide on Daly by the end of the week (Knowing he'd take the job) and wait until after the Super Bowl.

Daboll said he expects Wink as our DC next year and we see how that worked out.

Hopefully you are right. However, Wildon I believe is the only one offered a 2nd interview. I have heard nothing about Henderson being one of the favorites to get the job. If Henderson winds up the DC, I am sorry, but it more than likely will be from default.

Again I hope Im wrong, but as someone else said, Schoen said he hoped this 2ould be done by the end of this week. Common sense would tell you that the guy who got a 2nd interview was likely the choice, not a guy they havent interviewed yet. Using my head, I got the indication Schoen thought Wilson would take the job.

He pulled a rabbit out of his hat in 2022. Ton of injuries and bad performance in 2023 that necessitated removing STC and DC because of lack of progress developing players.
No, I think he has two more years. Schoen isn't giving up that easily, unless he is just a beast and out of control with personnel.

Sorry to be so outspoken on this thread, this just happens to be a subject I am passionate about.

But, if the Goants have a year like 2023 where they are pretty much out of it by Halloween, can you really justify giving Daboll another year? Im not necessarily opposed to it, but we would be laughable 2 years in a row and likely not sniffing any good assistants coming over once again. Even if we are able to get out from Jones, if the line sucks ass again, the defense is middl8ng or worse, whats next? You trust Daboll another year to turn things around when 4 fifths of your O line were drafted in the 3rd round or higher, you have no QB, no identity as an offense, and a defense that has like 4/5 good players on it?

Yes I know there is an offseason and a lot can happen, but if Dabes runs yhis shit show back again and people still say hes a divk, you pretty much have to can him and start over. Again.
Call me crazy
Breeze_94 : 1/31/2024 11:59 pm : link
But I think Bowen is the best candidate they’ve interviewed. Had an AVG points against rank of 12th in 3 years. Never worse than 16th in scoring D. Despite injuries and letting key players go, and mediocre personnel overall. He’s only 37 too, so he’ll only get better as he’s around the game longer.

I know Schoen said they expect to hire someone by the end of the week, but why the rush? Get the hire right, no matter how long you have to wait.

Look at the possible options:

Mike Vrabel
Ron Rivera
Brandon Staley
Hopefully Evero and Bowen shake loose sooner or later even though their organizations say they're holding on to them now.
Brendan Daly
Even Leslie Frazier

IDK, Henderson seems like he would be a disappointing hire

Frazier I think got hired.
Vrabel is n9t taking a DC job after being a successful HC
Rivera is not taking a DC job again at his age after two HC gigs.... And chances are, he would have the same chip on his shoulder as Wink.

Why anybody would want anything to do with Staley after his playoff collapse and the performance of his defense despite having dome players is beyond me. No offense.

The good, young options are all but dried up and it sucks big time.
Sorry, Frazier is just rumored to be DC of Phins.

You really do.

Daboll is the first of the last four Giant head coaches to make it past his second season. He's coming off a 6-11 season. Stories abound about his being tough to work with. He has lost two coordinators (one in a messy way) and may lose the third. He's entering 2024 with guaranteed QB uncertainty.

If you're a defensive coordinator candidate and you see those factors, are you going to hitch your wagon to that or to the guy that just got hired in Tennessee by the GM who's just been given the keys to the car?

I don't hate the Giants. I'm pissed that are poorly run and suck as a result. I can remember what it's like to watch the Giants when they are good, and I miss it. I care about that. Why don't you?

It is not 2011 anymore. A fan has to be into their 20s to remember the Giants as something other than a doormat.

For years I've been saying the Giants are in trouble, and I've been right: it's been 2 winning seasons out of the last 11. And for that I'm being accused of hating the Giants and wanting to watch the world burn like the Joker? What a load of bullshit.

Wake up already.

Were you awake for the Giants 2022 season when Daboll won coach of the year?

A tough season with injuries, poor play at the start, and a shitty QB situation due to all of those factors has made people lose their fucking minds.

This after a great season where our new head coach won the award for best coach in the entire NFL. And then his defensive coordinator (that he didn’t want to hire at his first choice) started an in house mutiny and you guys fell for it and are somehow still bringing it up as if it’s some indictment against Daboll when one of the best players on our own defense said he might not return to the Giants if this guy was still around.
If Henderson were their first choice

Or even second choice, he would have been hired already. At this point, a former head coach is more likely to take it than and an up and coming coordinator.
I've heard it reported that Carthon (the Titans GM)

Is actually picking the staff for Callahan. Similar to the Eagles structure. This is who I wanted but it felt like a long shot.

Sense I get: we all overlooked and maybe underestimated the Ran Carthon connection with Dennard Wilson from their time together with Rams.
I always think of the Titans as a small market team.

Superbowl titles/appearances:

NFC East: 13/22
AFC South: 2/5

So, first off Bill Callahan is going to need to find an elite quarterback. Houston has one. Not sure Will Levis will be enough.
